Ok, based on what little information I have on Keziah Caroline Smith, and the fact that they lived and are buried in the southern part of what is now Brantley County, Bachlott area, and buried at Bachlott Cemetery, which is located in southern Brantley County, less than 3 miles from the Charlton County line, I would conclude that it was then Charlton County. However, Marty says that the county dividing line (Charlton/Wayne) at that time was right about where Uncle Vernon Johns lived, which is about a mile (give or take) from this particular cemetery and that his (great) Granny had to pay land taxes in Wayne County about that time. So it is really a toss up as to Wayne or Charlton. So is she died on July 22, 1885 she died in what was at that time, Either the part of Brantley Co that was taken away from Charleton County or the part of Pierce that was taken to make Brantley County or the part of Wayne that was taken to make Brantley County but the lady is found buried in Brantley Co. today so it is just much easier to say....................................Brantley Co. Takes up a lot less space also. I suppose we should all type it up as: Charlton, Pierce, Wayne, Brantley County for her place of death. However if a death cert. is lucky enought to be had, and I highly doubt that as they were not used back then, we could just go with what it says!
