Waycross Journal-Herald, Sat. Dec. 22, 2001: DR. JACKSON T. GRIFFIN JR. COLUMBUS, Ga.--Dr. Jackson Thomas Griffin Jr., 74, died Friday (Dec. 21, 2001) at the Columbus Hospice House. A Ware County native, he was retired from a 33-year neurosurgery practice in the Columbus area. He received the M.D. degree in 1954 from the Medical College of Georgia, and he was also an alumnus of Emory University and Emory's Oxford College. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist's mate, and he was a member of St. Paul United Methodist church in Columbus. His birthdate was Jan. 8, 1927 and his parents were Flora Cobb Griffin and Jackson Thomas Griffin Sr. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. today in the chapel at McMullen Funeral Home in Columbus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Private burial rites will take place at a later date. He is survived by a daughter, Laura Anne Griffin Fisher of Kennesaw; two sons, Jackson Todd Griffin and William Bradford Griffin, both of Columbus; a sister, Jean Griffin James Pritchard of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Rhiannon Maria Griffin of Manning, S.C. and Haley Lauren Fisher, Henry Jackson Fisher and Mallory Grace Fisher, all of Kennesaw; and cousins Roger Sydney Cobb of St. Simons Island and Andrew Stuart Cobb and Carolyn Cobb Anderson, both of Kennesaw. Memorial donations may be sent to Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909.
