I like going over to Jekyll Island and every time I go through Nahunta, I think of Daddy being so young and getting on that train :-) Oh...a funny story to share. I know this isn't genealogy related but it was just too funny not to share. When we moved back to Valdosta from Columbia, SC last August, we hired two young men to help us unload the moving van. One was from New York state and is in the Air Force stationed here at Moody AFB. He was telling us a cute story. It seems his mother, who still resides in NYC, came to visit him in Valdosta. She came down the interstate, then from Brunswick to Valdosta. To her misfortune, not being from the South and understanding our 'respect' for the deceased (as well as the laws here), this lady found herself in a heap of trouble. It seems as she was approaching Hoboaken there was a funeral procession. Well, as you all know, we here in the South pull off the highway and wait for the procession to go by before driving away. Not this nicely-dressed, very refined lady from NYC.....she proceeded to PASS the entire procession, including the Deputy :-) She found herself in jail and her son had to go and 'bail' her :-) He said she was so embarrassed that he didn't have the heart to kid her about her actions. When he told us that story, I just about fell out!!!! CAN YOU IMAGINE??? Anyway, I thought it was cute. Regards, NancyP
Nancy, That's hysterical!!!!! I can see the deputy now. Gomer Pile for sure. My sister and I used to go to Valdosta all the time. We had several clients down there. Y'all still enjoying all those restuarants that popped up over night. I grew up in Saint Simons Island and Blackshear but live in Salisbury, North Carolina now.
