    3. List, Here is another example of the articles I received some time ago [1999] by way of e-mail attachment. They are chock full of wonderful family information. I do not know the original source/sources of these articles. I have no further information on any of these. Hortense News: WILLIAM STRICKLAND, son of Mr and Mrs WILLIE STRICKLAND is seriously ill in the Wayne County Hospital. Mrs. CARRIE DAVIS is seriously ill at the home of her brother, A M CAMPBELL. Mrs. RUBY BRANCH and children has returned from Ocilla, GA. Mr and Mrs GEORGE LEE announced the arrival of a daughter on 8 January. she will be called ALENE LEE. Superior Court Adjourns: Wednesday 19 January, Brantley County Superior Court adjourned 18 January, at noon, with a number of important cases disposed of. Judge THOMAS WALKER presided and Solicitor Protem, WILL C PARKER, Prosecutor . In the W T SMITH Case the defendant plead guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the killing of PETE THAMES, and was sentenced to twelve months or a fine of $150.00. J D MANNING was tried on two indictments: one- for assault and battery in which he was fined $50.00 or twelve months sentence ; in the case of accusing manning of driving a car while intoxicated the defendant was fined $25.00 and given a suspended sentence. LESTER LYONS was fined $250.00 and given a suspended sentence for cutting BEN GRIFFIN. RALPH RAULERSON was fined $250.00 and given a suspended sentence for selling liquor . The Grand Jury returned a number of other indictments, it is reported, but the cases will be tried at a future term of court. Nahunta Social News: Tech 5, JAMES E KNOX has been promoted to Technician 4th Grade. It was announced today by his commanding officer, LT. COL ROBERT C ERTIENBURCH. JAMES is the son of Mr. & Mrs. WILLIAM KNOX of Nahunta. JULIUS SMITH of the U S Army, is visiting friends and relatives in Nahunta and vicinity this week. Mr and Mrs. JAMES HARRIS of Mcrae, Mr & Mrs RUFUS LOWDER of Homerville, BERNIE ROGERS, and DOROTHY ROGERS of Brunswick were guests at the home of Mr and Mrs G C ROGERS last weekend. WILLIE STRICKLAND of Pensacola, Florida left on Tuesday after a visit with his brother, JOSEPH E STRICKLAND. Mr and Mrs JOHN I LEE announce the birth of a baby boy, born Thursday 13 January. the baby was named EVERETT MORRIS LEE. Both baby and mother are getting along well. EULA JONES has resumed her duties as a member of the faculty of Nahunta School, after spending two weeks with her brother and sister in Miami, FL. Her brother: J E JONES her sister ELIZABETH HARRIS JOHN THURMAN of Brunswick was a guest of EDWARD NEWTON on Sunday CLAUDE SMITH is spending his furlong with his parents, Mr and Mrs CHARLIE SMITH. EDWINA COX spent the week with her parents, Mr and Mrs A E COX. MISS COX is employed as a temporary assistant in the Home Demonstration Agent in Pierce County, GA. Mr and Mrs ELMER K HAM has moved to Nahunta from Savannah. Mr HAM was transferred to the Nahunta A C L Depot and Mrs HAM is teaching school in Hoboken. Mr and Mrs HARLEY JONES entertained with a turkey supper for SIBERT JONES on Friday evening of last week, those present were: DAN JONES and sons BEN JONES and JOE JONES, and Mrs MAMIE KNOX. SIBERT left later in the evening for his post where he is in training as a cadet in the Merchant Marines. He has been home for two weeks. 27 January 1944 the Board of Commissioners of Roads and Revenues of Brantley County, Georgia, met at the courthouse in Nahunta on the 7 December In 1943, for the transaction of county business. THOMAS was advanced to the rank of Fireman First Class . He is here on leave and will report back to the training station at Great Lakes, Illinois for reassignment to active duty. Atkinson News: HAZEL MIDDLETON and IRIS MIDDLETON spent the afternoon in Hortense with their uncle, CECIL ADAMS. REV and Mrs. C I MORGAN of Nahunta visited Mr and Mrs. H E CREWS last Wednesday evening. Mrs. H E CREWS, DEWEY CREWS and RUTH CREWS spent Sunday evening with Mrs. J J JACOBS. Mrs. CECIL SHAW and son HAYWOOD SHAW of Nicholls visited Mrs. H E CREWS last Tuesday also TOM BARLOW of HOMERVILLE was a visitor of the H E CREWS family last week. 03 FEBRUARY 1944, JAMES LYNN [stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas] In a letter from JAMES LYNN to his folks in Brantley reveals that he likes the U S Army and is getting along well. JAMES has had a varied experience since entering the military service about a year ago. He went to Fort Eustis, Virginia for a period of training and was given a 12 week course in electricity. After being transferred to Fort Bliss, Texas, he has completed a course in radio with high ratings. He is now on duty in wire communications and well pleased with his setup. Before going into service he lived with his grandparents, Mr & Mrs. H L LYNN at Waynesville.

    3. Sharon, I can tell you that these are clippings from the Nahunta newspaper. I don't know the name of it. However, It was owned by Dean Broome's father. Dean Broome owned the Blackshear Times and wrote The History of Pierce County.
