    2. Keep them that way, if you merge them it will be to large, trust me. Been there and done that! If you put them all in just one file, FTM after so many names throws out the ones that you put in first! So your data vanishes................................................ YES FTM has unlimited space YES if you put each family seperate it seems. I was told this by the makers of FTM them selves Gail ~~~~~~~ Gail Although this list may not be the place to talk about FTM software, I wonder how many people you are talking about having in your FTM file? Also, how many folks did FTM tell you would be too many? I use FTM 11.0, and have over 30,000 folks with notes, obits, photos, census returns, etc., for quite a few of those... I have never had any of my information 'vanish'. I regularly back up my family file so I won't lose anything, in the event of a power failure or computer crash, etc. I merged all my files into one single file about 3 years ago, and didn't lose any information. (That is why I recommended making a back-up BEFORE you merge your files, in the event that something goes wrong, or you don't understand exactly what it is you are telling the software to do.) Anytime someone wants info on someone in my file, I can easily create a genealogy report, then export the report to a .pdf or text file. Then, it's as simple as sending an attachment with an e-mail of whatever file I am sending. There is a very informative list for Family Tree Maker users at the following address, and many users on that list have a lot more folks in their files than I have, so I wonder why your information vanishes. If anyone is interested in learning more about FTM, I highly recommend subscribing to this list: FTM-L@ROOTSWEB.COM I'm not trying to get an argument started, I am merely sharing my experiences. 3. You're welcome Barb. My cousin Jack's funeral was there. But sometimes when you follow a funeral procession they will go around the back streets and come back up to make it possible to accommodate all the cars, so at the time I didn't fully appreciate where it was. It wasn't until I went to Douglas later that year, taking the scenic route through Waycross that I fully understood where it was. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barb" <bamdrury@alltel.net> To: <GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 06, 2005 6:23 AM Subject: Re: [GAWARE] McQuaig's in Kettle Creek Cemetary > Thank you I remembered one time many moons ago of visiting for a funeral but > with age it passed my mind as to where it was. 3. Yes I know I have all of this. I was working on all of this way back and then found out that my Cousin Mildred Ingram had done a book on this as well. Some of them had given my Grannie a copy and she let me copy her copy! I of course has been added to over the years........................... George Lee and Frances Corbitt were the parents of Martha Jane Lee my Grannie's Mother! There have been a lot of tails about this John Lee family..................some good some not so good, some down right lies on the internet! The Lee's of Billy's Island were not naked barefoot savages who could not speak any known language............................. BUT there was for a time a website that so stated as much. But thanks for your kindness and sharing with me! That's how we all learn...........................that's why the lists are so great. 1. Re: [GAWARE] Re: USING FTM
    2. Gail Moore
    3. Sherry, I had mine that way too, Until it began throwing away whole family lines at a time. I updated my program and readded the thrown out data, thank goodness it was in a book form as well. It did it again.......................................... I contacted FTM back when it was Broderbund and not Ancestry! I was told that it would do that, that I had to divide them back out into seperate family files. I was told to back it up first. This was back before CD-ROM came to be! So I had to back my tree up onto 5.5 floppy's It took 120 of them to back up my tree! But I did it and I still have them. I then divided my tree down into the seperate family names. I figure if the company tells me to do this, then that is what I need to do.................................I have never again had that problem! FTM has never sence thrown out any of my data! And I have collected a whole lot more between then and now. What I do is this.................................................... I have each of all of my family names in seperate tree's. Then I have Gail's Tree In Gails' Tree it shows how all the others come into play! I can then print out my Tree plus any others that I need to combine or list to share with others. Most of the time I only have to print out what the person really wants in the first place, the family line from the surname in question! I even run trees in my system for others that I am helping from time to time, it helps make it easier at times to help that person. Plus then you can print out a report for them and e-mail it to them as you said. When done you can delete the files that you don't need yourself and go on and not worry about messing up your own research. When I did my last upgrade to 2006 VER. I again asked if I needed to keep them this way and the lady said yes! That it is the most recommended way to be safe. I guess it has to be up to each of us to decide really. I suppose it would also depend on how much data you have collected. I also printed mine out before I divided it up. It printed out to 900 or so pages plus the index and that was without the entire Green line....................................................... That Green line goes back to Elijiah GREEN seen in POWG. Hope this is useful to some of you. 1. Re: [GAWARE] Genealogy Question
    2. Gail Moore
    3. Keep them that way, if you merge them it will be to large, trust me. Been there and done that! If you put them all in just one file, FTM after so many names throws out the ones that you put in first! So your data vanishes................................................ YES FTM has unlimited space YES if you put each family seperate it seems. I was told this by the makers of FTM them selves Gail ----- Original Message ----- From: "Teresa Griffis" <tgriffis@wayxcable.com> To: <GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, November 03, 2005 4:55 PM Subject: [GAWARE] Genealogy Question > These last few weeks we've covered Rowell, Mims, O'Steen, Johns, and > several others that overlap in three of my families, my husband's paternal > and maternal lines and also my materal line. 1. Re: [GAWARE] Where is everyone......
    2. Gail Moore
    3. Tooth surgery and bleach to the eyes! Old age sucks............................................................. My teeth all want to fall out, well not really but need to! Tony can't stand up at work...........................did you guys know that chicken fat is slick when stepped on in large quanties. Also it can be hard to see under massive amounts of soap suds! And it is not good to step in chicken fat while toating a 5 gal bucket of 80% Bleach either. Did you know that a sudden stop such as with the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket hitting hard at record speeds against a cement floor causes motion...................................it can cause bleach to jump right up out of that bucket onto what ever ends up over the top of it! Such as a persons face and eyes! OUCH I've been a bit busy or other wise detained the past few days! Let's see I woke up Monday with the left side of my face swollen and a terrible tooth ache! Could not find dental cards for Insurance coverage................................took all day to find out, ops someone forgot to send them to us but yes we have coverage and who to call. Of course by this time a person gets that beloved message on the other end please call back during NORMAL business hours! Tuesday, just before digging out bullets and a gun for my head, I am told sure come on in..............................Thank goodness! It was suppose to be simple.....................me simple, no way NEVER Not me.................................... A simple tooth extraction turns into surgery, of course! With my wisdom teeth the roots wrapped around the jaw bone. With my molars, naw they just grew up into my sinus! Plus they liked it in there and did not want to vacate the area. So out with the heavy equipment......................you know drills and picks and such! But he was good, I must give the man that. Did not hurt a bit......................would I go back heck yes. Anyway I now have a tunnel that has to grow back so I have packing and stiches for TWO weeks..........................Great...........leave it to me.........................lol So that night I go to bed, and have a terrible time sleeping. Don't know why just could not sleep. Tony had gone in a 9pm for his regular 3ed shift and had been released to go into the plant at long last after the spider bit thing that went on for about 2 weeks in all! One week out of work due to infection and 1 week in back shop for safty sake! Goes back in with papers to go back to regular work, he was happy and excited........................................{he's a work-a-halic} He's doing this thing and everything is great, up until the run in with the chicken fat and soap suds! So at 6:30 AM I get a phone call to come pick him up at the Evans Co. ER I have no clue where this is at....................................so I call my friend, thank goodness for friends! They don't get near enough praise I say................................. So she tells me how to get to the hospital and meets me there! Now that's a true friend let me tell ya. I get there and Tony is bandages up both eyes can't see a thing. He has a fair burn to the right eye with blurred vision and a bad burn to the left eye with no vision at all................................we are sent off to go to the GA Eye Instution in Savannah. I had never been there either, my friend went with us and showed us the way....................again that's a true friend! They got him in before too long seeing as how he had never been there before. They checked his eyes out very well, I mean very much so. Put medicine into them both and a contact lens into the left eye to protect it................they use those now for eye band aids! We go back on tuesday to find out the outcome! It burned off the outter layer of the eye but it can and will heal up. What we want is for it to heal without scar tissue. If that happens we're OK IF it heals up with scar tissue then there will be problems, and that depends on how much scar tissue formes............................. So far it sound good vision is coming back slowly now he can tell that something is in front of that eye, just not plain yet. It is 4:08 in the AM on a Sunday and this is the first chance in 3 days that I have had to check my mail........................................ If I owe anyone anything give me a few days and then remind me please, things have been a bit whacky on this end!
