    1. Re: [GAWARE] Genealogy Question
    2. Gail Moore
    3. Oh don't let me talk you out of it........................the program may have been fixed over the years so that it does not do this any more. This happened to me way back with Ver. 7.0 or the one before that! I am just saying be careful is all................................... Maybe keep your seperate ones by doing a back up of those and then give the combination thing a try who knows perhaps it works just fine now................................................. All that I know is that "This is what happened to me and a few others way back when" This was when BRODERBUND owned FTW and NOT Ancestry! Most folks on this list don't believe me when I say all of Rootsweb use to be called Genweb only and be housed at the Library of Virginia with Peter either...............................but that too is fact! EVERYONE ON THIS LIST has to decide for themselves the best programs to use, and the best way for them to use that program. I just wanted folks to have an the chance to hear what has HAPPENED in the past so that you are aware of what can go wrong is all! If everyone just remembers this one rule........................................... BACK UP everything.................You'll be alright Gail ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tracey K" <traceyk@goboone.net> To: <GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 06, 2005 1:54 PM Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Genealogy Question > Whew! 1. Re: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome
    2. Lorraine Silvey
    3. Joel, I think one of the major difference in this list and many others is that most of us consider ourselve to be "family", whether we are directly related or not. As such we tend to be a little more informal and try to be as polite as possible. The one liner "I forgot to sign my name" was mine and I do not apologize for it....I think it is rude not to sign your name to any email. We tend to get more information shared and are a very helpful list since we do treat each other as family. I have been worked for several days to "catch up" on the fast flowing information of the last week, however, I would NEVER dream of complaining about this. I THINK IT IS WONDERFUL! Just think of the wealth of information that has been shared. I don't know of many lists that share as much information as this one except perhaps the LEE list. Please don't read this as chiding or fussing...I certainly DO NOT mean it that way. Just trying to explain the way this list works a little better. I wouldn't trade it for any other!! 2. Hey Kati Yep multiple lists, Glynn co and a couple of others, and one from the Archives that Amy Hendric has been loading many Obits on to. Problem is my pc crashed, and I usually pull my mail from the Lib but their pcs have been down ovewr a week and the only other time i can pull mine is on the weekends at my girlfriends. this weekend I have OVER 300 Whats really annoying is the MANY one liners like thanks billy bob, or I forgot to sign my name etc.. I've been on about 10 rootswebs lists before and never had so many what I call useless oneliners, gets to be a hassel when you don't have endless time to spend on the PC.. Don't think the dijest mode would work for me, doesnt it leave out details? or is it one email with ALL the subjects in order? thanks Joel -----Original Message----- From: Kati <kimis@bellsouth.net> To: GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Mon, 31 Oct 2005 00:55:10 -0500 Subject: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome Hi, Since we've only had 189 posts to the list this month you must be on multiple lists. Along with genealogy there will be a certain amount of chatter on a list of this kind, including some side tracking and thankyous. There is also the occasional message sent in error and the follow-up apology. I read the emails from this list most days. It is a low volume list and I'm happy with the current exchanges. If you feel you're getting too many emails maybe you'd like to try the digest mode where you get multiple posts in a single email. If so, let me know. 3. A big change happened in ver 11 when you could have two FTW files up at the same time and copy from on to the other, but I would recommend that all who are still using anything but the newest version 2006 to go to Ancestry and down load the 2005 trail version, there were many changes between it an ver 11. You can call and be a little hesitant with wanting to pay the price and may be able to get it reduced to 19.99 plus. They want you to upgrade because of the new Global search which is great if you have full ancestry, but it allows a search on a single person. 1. Re: [GAWARE] McQuaig's in Kettle Creek Cemetary
    2. Thank you so much for sending this list of McQuaigs in Kettle Creek Cemetery to me. I was there for 15 minutes about this time last year and had no time to write the names, dates of birth and death of any of the McQuaigs other than Jimpsey Neil McQuiag. I did snap pictures, very quickly, of some of the gravesites and would be happy to email any pictures I have to anyone who is interested in them. I will need some time to locate the disc I have the pictures on. Are there any McQuaigs on this list who are related to Jimpsey Neil McQuaig and Caroline Miller McQuaig (I think Caroline Miller is correct)? I want to find my great grandfather and great grandmother's family very much. This is a great list, Kathy P:) In a message dated 11/6/2005 2:49:16 A.M. "Thomas Edwards, Sr. came to New York from Wales, England in 1750, settled and purchased land on Manhatten Island, New York. This record taken from "History" and the "Hall of Records" in New York City, New York". Basically Gail it was a break down of The Thomas Edwards, Sr. family down through and including the information on Thomas Edwards Sr, his wife, Isabel Downing, their 4 children listed, their son, Thomas Jr., his wife, Elizabeth Nichols, their 5 children listed, Thomas' son, Andrew, his wife, Phoebe Meadows, their 8 children, Andrew's daughter, Sarah , her husband, Andrew McClellan, their 4 children, Sarah and Andrew's daughter, Mary Ann, her husband, Jeremiah Johns, their 13 children, Jeremiah Johns' son, Jacob, his wife Catherine Highsmith, their 10 children, Jacob's son, George Washington, his wife Lavinia "Viny" Crews, their children. 3. For almost 3 weeks I had to access my emails thru my cell phone as my comp was in the shop. Talk about a hassle! I am on approx. 20 list, so I had PLENTY of them to go thru. But I enjoyed EACH and EVERYONE of them rather they pertained to me or not. The digest mode sends you several emails on one email, but I don't use it. I think people appreciate being thanked, and deserve it for helping out and sharing. Maybe it would be more helpful to some to title the mail as such, so you could just hit delete if you want? My 2 cents worth. 3. Ok, I am trying to read all the posts especially the RE: FTM, and have stopped at this one to respond. I merged my FTM at 7.0 and DID NOT have any problems and DID NOT lose anyone in my file. And yes I did backup my files first. The one thing about merging the files that maybe some people don't understand is that when you start merging the files, it will ask you to save this one or that one (NOW THIS IS OF THE SAME/DUPLICATE RECORDS I AM TALKING ABOUT) and you have to choose which one to keep OR you can keep them both and merge them separately later if you are unsure as to which one has the most accurate information. I chose to merge and on those that I was not quite sure of I kept both records and merged them indiviually when I was ready.......FTM gives you that option as well...... I have found it a tremendous asset to have one large file with everyone in it. It saves me lots of time of checking a zillion smaller files. The only draw back I have found so far is tryin! g to do a Family Finder search, which as I stated earlier takes forever, and then tells me it is too large a file to download the results..... I have lived with that and I do my own research anyway so that is not a BIG problem for me. Granted any program or for that matter any computer can have flaws, but I haven't found any major flaws in any FTM program I have used. I started with FTM 3 which was a relative newbie, and have graduated to FTM 10, which is wonderful with all the improvements. OK off my soap box and strictly my own opinion.
