Mary Ann "Pollie" Osteen is my great-great-great-grandmother. Sharon Sharon, Would that Mary O'Steen be Mary Ann "Pollie" O'Steen, daughter of William Edward Obediah O'Steen (1782-1816) and Sarah Unknown? I have a list of 5 O'Steen children for William and Sarah, including Mary. Just wondering. 3. Some lists are meant for some and some lists are not. Most of us have been here a long, long time and we are quite happy with this list..................... We don't plan to leave it. We MAKE the time one way or another. If you don't have time, then you don't have time. Perhaps you would be happier on another list. I am sorry but Katie is our list host, if she chooses to forward a message to the entire list, she is allowed to do that. She also makes the rules that we all abide by. If you can't join in then I don't know what else to tell you my friend. Perhaps your in the wrong place. Don't get me wrong, I am not suggesting that you leave that is your choice. But we are trying to work with you, but you don't jump into something that is ongoing and has been for years and expect everyone else to lay down and obey YOUR RULES because you have now arrived! YOU are suppose to conform to the already set rules and join in! If called just plain old fashion good manners! You do what you like, but this is America and this is the GAWARE list love it or leave it! I am tired of having to change to please JUST one person in the group. Katie you have my vote I think you do a great job, that is why this list stayes so very busy we all love the job your doing.................... Through our "ramblings and one liners" we have learned a lot. Genealogy is a whole lot more than dates of birth and death, when a person married and to whom, what kids they had and where they lived........................ It is who they really were, what they liked to eat and read and wear and how they worked and when and for what and thank yous and I'm sorrys at times too! It the South....................................... Welcome to it! By the way, I am getting a bit sick of this subject line too! Sorry but I am Gail ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome Date: Sun, 06 Nov 2005 15:59:17 -0500 > Great > > I HAVE family here also > > ANYBODY named Newbern or married to one is kin to me > > MY COMPLAINT IS > > This is supposed to be a geanological fact sharing list > > If I have 15/20 emails and the subject line is WHERE IS > EVERYBODY!! > > Its a waste of time AND those that have a surname in the > subject line and I open it and its SOMETHING TOTALLY > UNRELATED. > > Respectfully! > > While I have opened up 20 useless emails I could of read > some of those posted with PAGES OF GREAT USEFUL INFO! > > Unfortunately I don't have unlimited time to spend online, > MAYBE when I retire, reach over 70 years old and have > unlimited time or my future bride tells me I can quit my > job and do this full time until then my time is limited > : ) > > -----Original Message----- > From: Lorraine Silvey <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Sun, 06 Nov 2005 14:55:34 -0500 > Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome > > Joel, > I think one of the major difference in this list and > many others is that most of us consider ourselve to be > "family", whether we are directly related or not. 2. Sherry are you a HArrell related to the Harrells married to the Drury's? ~~~~~~~~ Barb I need you to be more specific. Do you have a specific Drury in mind? I went through my small file on the Drurys, and didn't see one that was married to a Harrell, but I may have them listed only under whoever they married and had their last name listed as "Unknown". I'll be happy to share whatever info I have. Sherry

    2. My mom died in 1987 The church she attended put together about a 300 page cook book in her honor many of the recipties she cooked was in there Would you think it fitting for me to POST all 300 pages on the GAWARE list? I have 2 deceased uncles that were mechanics, would it be fitting for me to post ALL reciepts of their business transactions? My GGGF was Rev George Washington Newbern out of Coffee / Clinch county etc if I had the transcripts of EVERY sermon he ever preached would it be fitting to post them ALL here? I think you may get my drift, I would think that what most would want to know would be the HIGHLIGHTS, >>THEN<< it that strikes an interest the individuals could respond in private for the details. Respectfully Joel Newbern Hewitt PS I can post ALL 300 pages of the cook book under different SURNAMES listed in the Subject line, if y'all want some good receipties : ) -----Original Message----- From: embracer <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, 06 Nov 2005 16:34:49 -0500 Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome For Joel Direct Question Pertaining to ONLY genealogy Joel: Perhaps you should tell us what is Genealogy? I was there for 15 minutes about this time last year and had no time to write the names, dates of birth and death of any of the McQuaigs other than Jimpsey Neil McQuiag. I did snap pictures, very quickly, of some of the gravesites and would be happy to email any pictures I have to anyone who is interested in them. I will need some time to locate the disc I have the pictures on. Are there any McQuaigs on this list who are related to Jimpsey Neil McQuaig and Caroline Miller McQuaig (I think Caroline Miller is correct)? 3. Margie gave me a copy already, I am currently working on proving or disproving it..................so far some of it checks out. But there is no such place as "The Hall or records" in NY! So that is a problem, trying to figure out what the lady that did it meant by it............... I have checked with City Hall for New York City, NY which is what Manhattan would have been at the time I am told. I have a buddy who is trying to help me with this New York stuff as he had a ton of family there, she grew up there in fact. So she is well versed on NEW YORK. I am hoping she will find something for us one day. Keep your fingers crossed. The US censuses have been a big help with it so far! They do appear on the US Censuses in the given years that goes along with that old paper! I have a copy of the paper. Margie said that it was in Uncle Vernon's room in a old shirt box. 2. Great I HAVE family here also ANYBODY named Newbern or married to one is kin to me MY COMPLAINT IS This is supposed to be a geanological fact sharing list If I have 15/20 emails and the subject line is WHERE IS EVERYBODY!! Its a waste of time AND those that have a surname in the subject line and I open it and its SOMETHING TOTALLY UNRELATED. Respectfully! While I have opened up 20 useless emails I could of read some of those posted with PAGES OF GREAT USEFUL INFO! Unfortunately I don't have unlimited time to spend online, MAYBE when I retire, reach over 70 years old and have unlimited time or my future bride tells me I can quit my job and do this full time until then my time is limited : ) -----Original Message----- From: Lorraine Silvey <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, 06 Nov 2005 14:55:34 -0500 Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome Joel, I think one of the major difference in this list and many others is that most of us consider ourselve to be "family", whether we are directly related or not. As such we tend to be a little more informal and try to be as polite as possible. The one liner "I forgot to sign my name" was mine and I do not apologize for it....I think it is rude not to sign your name to any email. We tend to get more information shared and are a very helpful list since we do treat each other as family. I have been worked for several days to "catch up" on the fast flowing information of the last week, however, I would NEVER dream of complaining about this. I THINK IT IS WONDERFUL! Just think of the wealth of information that has been shared. I don't know of many lists that share as much information as this one except perhaps the LEE list. Please don't read this as chiding or fussing...I certainly DO NOT mean it that way. Just trying to explain the way this list works a little better. I wouldn't trade it for any other!! 1. Re: GAWARE-D Digest V05 #200
    2. Kay, Joes and Sherry, Please accept my apologies if you took my response as "hostile". I certainly did not mean it that way. I have seen hostile feedback and been the target of hostility in the past and certainly would never intentionaly do that to anyone. ~~~~~~~ This is getting out of hand......I am only trying to make peace for the ENTIRE list. We have all had a very good chatter going on for the last little while, and I have gained valuable information because of that chatter. I have never been offended by anything you have said dearest Lorraine, you are always nothing but kind. (You were not the one I was referring to, and who am I to judge?) I don't know Joel, but I don't think he meant anything hurtful in his message about the one liners either. He even prefaced his message with his admission that he was having a genealogical anxiety attack....LOL I am on Digest mode, yet I have been getting multiple e-mails from the Ware list each day. Today so far, I have gotten 6....... Like I said, I think there is a computer glitch, because I have to scroll through several of these--"Georgia Mailing List" etc.......one time it was 13!! Then, you can see that the message has been repeated many, many times because each line began with ">>>>>>>>>>" So, let's all go back to being the family that we all are!! I'm calling for a truce!! With my best intentions Sherry

    1. Re: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome
    2. Now since my response was forwarded to the list. a) I've been on close to 20 rootsweb lists at one time and NONE of them had jokes, reciepts, sweet stories etc, those lists have strict rules, ONLY Geanological info b) Usually when folks open a email and the subject line has a surname they expect geanological data c) unfortuantely some folks use rootsweb lists (at least this one as a group email list) IF the subject lines said receipts / sweet stories / jokes etc it would be a simple deleat BUT WHY put others on the list tru that when you can show some common respect. Create a personal email address group and ANYTHING NOT related to GEANOLOGY use other means. The issue is NOT if the email pertains to me or not BUT If it pertains to the REASON (I assume) why this group was created Geanology! I have received much help here, leads etc and I even maybe might have the photo of a grave and location that y'all are looking for since I have traveled extensively in south ga and Fla. I have documented personally ON FOOT OVER 350 men from one regiment in 4 years taking my vacation each year to do so, so GEANOLOGICAL INFO IS WHY I JOINED THIS GROUP. If I want to exchange stories recipies I would join a blog or groups petaining to such. Respectfully Joel Hewitt PS I would NOT be putting this on the list if it wasnt brought up here, posts AS MINE and others likewise shouldnt BE ON this list in my opinion -----Original Message----- From: Kay Music <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, 6 Nov 2005 11:46:03 -0800 (PST) Subject: [GAWARE] Gen Anxiety Syndrome For almost 3 weeks I had to access my emails thru my cell phone as my comp was in the shop. Talk about a hassle! I am on approx. 20 list, so I had PLENTY of them to go thru. But I enjoyed EACH and EVERYONE of them rather they pertained to me or not. The digest mode sends you several emails on one email, but I don't use it. I think people appreciate being thanked, and deserve it for helping out and sharing. Maybe it would be more helpful to some to title the mail as such, so you could just hit delete if you want? My 2 cents worth. 2. The digest mode sends you several emails on one email, but I don't use it. ~~~~~ Kay and Joel I sort of understand the problem Joel was having. I AM on digest mode, yet I would 2 and 3 messages a day for Ware County alone!! And at the end of the messages, you would have to scroll through as many as 13 headings--yes I counted. So, if you wanted to actually read the e-mail instead of only checking the heading, it took some time to get to it. I don't know what has happened, I think it was some sort of computer glitch or something. So this is to Joel--feel welcome to be here. You have as much right to say what you did as anyone else. I never found what you said to be offensive, and didn't understand the hostile feedback you received. Maybe the list-mom can check to see what is going on with the mulitple messages. Speaking of, I just checked and already have another message from Ware County, before I can respond to the last! Just trying to help the situation. Sherry Harrell
