Well, you do have it rough, we only have rain. Thanks, Sue
Sheila, I had not heard of the tornado. Were there any lives lost? Surely hope not. Tell me about the damages, since I grew up there am interested in hearing about it. Thanks, Sue. Alive and well here so far, with 1/4" ice and 60 mph winds forcast for tomorrow morning . . . if I have power, I'll more than likely be right here, trying to keep up with my genealogy emails, and trying to add a few folks here and there! If I don't have power, I'll be in the bed with a cup of hot tea or hot chocolate and Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers, headed into The Return of the King! Right now, it's so icy I can't walk from the house to the barn! Attention Everyone, I feel it necessary to send this to the entire list. I have received a hughe amount of junk or spam in the last few days. My ISP informed me today that my computer has also sent out spam. I apologize if anyone on the list received spam because of my computer. I feel certain that the problem is corrected now...my son, who is also my ISP spent about 4 hours today cleaning up my PC system. Again, I am sorry if I caused any problems for anyone else. Thanks goodness as several of us on this list would like to know for sure if possible. I am begining to feel that we may never know. Not unless some packed away family items comes to the surface one day that is................................................. Anyway, at times using that site does not work well when just typing in Leigh at the main search What I found works the best of all at that site is to go to each book then scroll down to the Index at the bottom of the page for each book and go into the index and check for the names there OR Open each book and go page by page...............the parts highlighted in blue and then use your edit button and search and type in the name there! I found this out the hard way when we extracted for my surname Cothran.................it is spelled over 35 different ways at times! So I went back in and went page by page through all three vol. using the edit search and typing in only Coc Of course this is very time consuming..................and a real pain but it paid off big time! That is how I at long last after others had searched for over 50 years before me.....................................who the parents of my 4th Great Grandfather had been............................. The name was Cockerham back then, and Hezikiah Cockrum was the son of Daniel Cockerham of Halifax Co. VA and his wife Martha When Old Daniel died Martha had married Samuel Pegg/Pigg and they all up and moved to SC from VA....................without those old records we would have never found this out. But Martha appeared in Ct. as Martha Pigg/Pegg to be adm. of the will of Daniel Cockerham as his widow! That was why Hezikiah in SC and NC kept signing as witness for the Pigg/Pegg couple Martha and Samuel. That is why Hezikiah named a daughter Martha! And a son Daniel! NOW I am very happy to report that my 1st. cousins DNA proves this work as well! Yea....................................... So Moral of all of this, these old ct. records are great, you must play around with them however..........................nothing is perfect. But they hold a wealth of goodies if your ancestors came from there!
