Unforturtunately I have only the names as posted In July 2002 during my search in Camden and Charlton counties I DID find and document William J. Drury with a Upright Confederate Military marker, It reads his name as noted, Co. B 26th GA INF CSA he is buried at Bickley Chapel in Camden county. While in those counties I left my plastic business cards on the graves, in Sept 2002 I received a email from Hoydt Drury hhdrury@eagnet.com he stated that this man was his Grest grandfather. 26th Regiment, Georgia Infantry 26th Infantry Regiment [also called 13th Regiment] completed its organization in October, 1861, at Brunswick, Georgia. Its companies were recruited in the couties of >>> Charlton, Berrien, Glynn, Twiggs, Clinch, Ware, Coffee, and Wayne.<<<< After serving in the Department of Georgia at St. Simons Island and Savannah, the unit moved to Virginia where it was brigaded under Generals Lawton, John B. Gordon, and C.A. Evans. The 26th participated in the campaigns of the Army of Northern Virginia from the Seven Days' Battles to Cold Harbor, fought with Early in the Shenandoah Valley, and ended the war at Appomattox. This regiment came to Virginia with 1,100 officers and men, lost 37 killed and 87 wounded at Second Manassas, and reported 6 killed, 49 wounded, and 6 missing at Sharpsburg. It had 53 casualties at Fredericksburg and 12 at Second Winchester. The unit was detached from its brigade to support the artillery at Gettysburg and lost few casualties. On April 9, 1865, it surrendered 85 men, of which 4 officers and 34 men were armed. The field officers were Colonels Edmund N. Atkinson and Carey W. Styles; Lieutenant Colonels James S. Blain, Eli S. Griffin, William A. Lane, and William A. McDonald; and Majors Thomas N. Gardner and B.F. Grace. Same week I found and documented a NON military marker engraved with the following Chas N. Drury Feb 17, 1841 July 3, 1921, buried at Burnt Fort also in Camden county, additional notes I obtained while in Camden states that this fellow IS Charles Nevel. In my roster for the Clinch 4th GA CAV it has C.N. Sr. and Jr. serving in this unit along with the previous names listed. I don't have any of the Complied Service records for thes men but they can be obtained at or from the Georgia Archives in Morrow Ga or online from Broadfoot Publishing, Broadfoot can get you the records within a week has been my experience. -----Original Message----- From: Barb Mitchell <bamdrury@alltel.net> To: GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 4 Mar 2006 19:56:09 -0500 Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Joseph G. You may suggest that folks obtain a map of the county from the state DOT office, the DOT maps have most of the cemeteries, also maybe a DOT office in the county may have a map on site to look at. Is there a Rehobeth Baptist Church cemetery or High Bluff Church cemetery in Ware County? ~~~~~~ There is also a Rehobeth Church in the Bickley area of Nothern Ware County, very near the border with Coffee County. It is also known as the Bagley Cemetery. It is off of the Old Nicholls Highway between Nicholls and Waresboro about 2 miles off the highway down a dirt road. There is a sign at the highway. But since he is asking about High Bluff also, I tend to think he is talking about the one in Pierce County. Bless you for helping others!! Sherry
Rehobeth is located about five miles north of Waycross, about a mile from the Ware county line in Pierce County. It is just off Cason Road (N30°18.985' W82°21.872'). Bill
Kati, On Cemetery Junction http://www.daddezio.com/cemetery/junction/CJ-GA-011.html There is a Rehobeth Cemetery listed in Blackshear. I wish I could be more helpful. Sue you are always welcome. Do u know of Drury Island? I am seeking info on it. It was suppose to have been close to the church area. I think remembering right. Joseph Drury made some of the pews still in that church today. I have been told that the drury's were quiet active in the Oakgrove church. Many baptizings happened somewhere behind the church itself. I would love to hear any drury stories and if anyone has pics to share it would be a blessing.
