Hi again, I live in Columbia County, Georgia about six miles outside of Augusta, Ga. We currently have 6 inches of snow in our yard and it is still snowing. Schools are closed, banks are closed and most businesses are closed. There are numerous traffic accidents in our county. EMA directors are urging people not to drive unless absolutely necessary. People in my neighborhood are skiing, snowboarding and sledding. The kids are loving every second of this weather. My kids have made a huge snowman that is in our front yard. LINDA

Just in case some of you are interested: http://accounts.rootsweb.com/ This describes how individuals can obtain "free" web space from Rootsweb and also how Genealogical Societies can do the same thing. Remember if you do get a web page.....The Ware County page (the one Scott does) would like to link to it. AND if you already have a web page that is not currently listed , then just let Scott know....or write to me, and I'll pass it along. 2002 -- a great new year. Everyone needs to resolve to get more of their materials on-line so they can be shared and not lost!! Virginia Crilley
I am stuck...stuck..stuck, on all of my surnames. I don't know where else to turn. It seems like I have looked through all of the books at the library. I know this ain't true, but it sure feels like I have. I'm searching the surnames: ALDRIDGE, BAGLEY, GUNTER, HOWELL, WYATT, THOMAS, *MELTON (no relation)* I'm also looking for the parents of Eliza Catherine "Kate" THOMAS. I haven't done any research on the Thomas surname...yet. I'm looking for Matthew M. MELTON's wife, Matthew is buried at High Bluff Cemetery, I wondered what happened to his wife Lilla? She is not buried next to him. Matthew is buried next to her brother Willie Wyatt. Does anyone know if Matthew & Lilla had children together? My most looked for name is Needham GUNTER. If anyone runs across this name in their research, please, please let me know. I have a guess that I descend through Needham GUNTER, perhaps not Richard Gunter. I could be very wrong about this, but I would like any information, anyhow. Hope everyone has a blessed 2002, Joy Spencer * Would be glad to help anyone researching the above names. _____________________________________________________________ Get your own free email account at TulipsMail---> http://www.tulipsmail.com
Just to help everyone understand more about how to locate and use WARE County (and any County within GA for that matter) Remember that we have "Sister" pages set-up. So if you are disappointed with one....then take a look at the other one. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/ware.htm ***Bookmark this page**** as it changes often. This is the GAGenWeb ARCHIVES page..... and this is the page that I am working hard with all of you who send me information.....this is our actual DATA page.... We're constantly updating this....but if you look at the names of the contributors, you may notice that just a few individuals are making contributions right now......so ALL of you need to be looking through your files and seeing what you can type up and share. A County Site depends on everyone working together sharing their information. Just type it up and send it to me: Virginia varcsix@hot.rr.com (Remember the copyright laws though!) WHY ARCHIVES PAGES are important: 1)Notice the Search Box on this page... you can select your specific county ....or select one specific Georgia county. This is a great advantage. If you are on the County page itself and do a search, it is only going to cover the contents of that specific county page. That gives the ARCHIVES page a distinct advantage, as many of our ancestors did "business" in the nearest county seat.... they may have been living in one county but actually were nearer to another county seat and might have gotten married, etc. there. 2)FORMAT is the same. When you visit an Archives page, you'll see that we have a standard format....which I think is pretty easy to follow. We have sections (Wills, Deeds, Obits)....and then in alphabetical order the names. 3)ALL FREE... COUNTY PAGE NOW....to the "sister" County Page. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the above page and you'll see a link directly to the County page. or go directly http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaware/ Scott Warren has graciously been doing the job as Web Master.... I personally don't pay much mind to the # of visits, as those counters often get stuck, but I will mention this to Scott. You are absolutely correct that the policy of USGenWeb for all of its County pages, is that everything be free. Rootsweb does give free web space for Genealogical Societies....and that is the place where all of the "for sale" materials for Ware County Genealogical Society should be. It should be a totally separate page than the GAGenWeb Ware County Page. This has long been a concern of the leadership in GAGenWeb, and it has been an ongoing discussion with Linda Angell. Tim Stowell, State Coordinator, is the leader for this aspect. You're absolutely right though that this page doesn't really contain very much actual information.... Ware County Researchers need to get busy sending in their contributions! 3) POSTING BOARDS These Boards have been revised....and I hope most of you are getting more comfortable with using them. I'll have to post again some tips.... Every message on the Board does come to the List. This is a wonderful set-up because many times people are coming to the Boards via Ancestry.com and are not aware of all the people on the Mailing Lists. I actually thought that the poster also received the reply to the message as well as it's coming to the Mailing List....but maybe I need to experiment with this. It never hurts though to CC the person. It takes more time though because the e-mails are "coded"...so you can't copy them. 4)MAILING LIST This is a wonderful place to share ideas, ask questions....talk about anything you're doing in Ware county Research. Now....any more questions....just ask. I'll be very happy to try my best to answer them...and I look forward to a wonderful 2002 and getting more and more free data on-line! Thank you so much for looking. He must be somewhere. I just assume that he died in Charlton Co or near by.
Dear GAWARE List Subscribers, I have noticed several folks replying to messages which were posted to the Ware County Message Board. These messages are automatically sent to the GAWARE List too. Always glad to see correspondence between genealogists. However, unless you send a cc to that person's e-dress, they will not receive your reply, unless of course they also happen to be a subscriber to the GAWARE List. I have wanted to tell y'all this for weeks, but could not get my mail to you before now [ISP problems]. If you have responded to any of these "message board queries" you may want to repost to the actual board, or send a copy to the private e-dress. Hate to know you may have missed out on a connection. Or missed a chance to help someone. I know how you all enjoy that. That's what has always made this a great place to research. happy hunting trails, Sharon
What has happened to the GAWareGen page? I go there and the number of hits stays on 11,243 for weeks and weeks. I don't seem to find any information added to the site and I wonder if anyone is supervising this site. I am not criticizing anyone or finding fault with anyone but what is happening with this site? I think it was a conflict in interest for this GAGenWeb page to include a genealogy library and genealogy society at the same time. Most of the GAGenWeb pages have all kinds of information free to the public, but I cannot find much on the Ware page. Can it be that I just don't know how to access needed info? I am able to get more information from various members' home pages than I can get from my own home county page. Perplexed, Christopher H G Boyd

Hi , I did a look up in the History of Charlton County,Georgia but could not find anything to help you. There were BROWNS, ROWLANDS and RHODENS but none that matched who you were looking for. Hope everyone is having a great New Year's Day. I hope to find some information on my 3rd great-grandfather, David C Brown. He was born, I believe in Baker Co, FL or nearby. He married Temperance Rhoden and they had a daughter named Caroline Brown. I have found him on the 1850 Columbia Co, FL census (age 26) living in the home of William and Sarah Cone. On the 1860 Columbia Co, FL census he is living next door to many of the Cones. I do not know if he is related to the Cone line or not. He is listed with Tempy and 3 children. 1870 Census - Columbia Co, FL Brown, David C 45 Tempy 42 (can't make out) 14 Caroline 10 David 5 Mariah 15 baby 9/12 1880 Census - Charlton Co, GA Brown, David C 55 Temperance 55 David 14 Rowland, Ezekiel 20 Caroline 20 Nettie 1/12 Sometime in the 1870s, he moved to Charlton Co. This is the last I have on him. If anyone knows of this David's parents or where/when he died, I would love to hear from you. Christi
Long... The list has been so quiet. I have had several folks write to me and ask WHAT HAPPENED? You are missed, not just by me. I want to encourage you, to maybe, when you get a few moments, from your hustle and bustle of this time of year; to sit down and post a message for us. We always enjoy reading genealogy and Ware County, Georgia area history. We want to know who you hope to find in 2002. 2002! Can you believe it? I sure can't. Have any of you made any recent discoveries or received any good leads on your lines? Any new photos of ancestors? I know many are worried, even afraid, about posting due to all the new "nasties" coming along every day. After the last post to this list about someone here being 'infected', we had a number of folks leave us. That is a shame. I always hate it when evil, wicked people [terrorists] cause the innocent to give up their liberties and freedoms. That is what the writers of these destructive programs have done to us. It isn't just GAWARE with this problem, but every list. Because, [DUH!] we use computers for all of them. <G> It is the computer that is infected, not RootsWeb! Not ANY LIST that is hosted by RW, INCLUDING GAWARE. 'Infected computers' are the carriers of these "nasties;" owned by members who have inadvertently opened something that had a "payload" in it. As some have kindly suggested, if you are concerned, you could get a free Hotmail account and not use your regular e-mail to post to lists. http://lc3.law5.hotmail.passport.com/cgi-bin/login Of course the best policy is still, to be very cautious. Stay on constant guard. Do not ever 'assume' that just because an e-mail says its from someone you recognize, or the title looks like something you were expecting, it is safe to let your guard down. These writers are using new tricks every day to fool us. LOCK/UNLOCK PREVIEW In Outlook Express: I use Outlook Express. I now have all my patches from Microsoft in place, which protects from most of the "thangs" that are out there right now. This is important! http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ I now use my LOCK PREVIEW to view ALL my mail before opening. This is easy to do. If you don't know how. Here is the way: Open Outlook Express. See if you have "Preview" as one of the buttons up top, if not...Right click on any area or button of the tool bar at the top. You will see a box with "customize" at the bottom. Click customize. You should see a box with two panels similar to your Family Tree Maker options. Find Preview on the left, highlight by clicking it, click "Add" in the middle to send it to the right column. Now you should have a "Preview" button show up on your tool bar, when you close out this box. To USE this feature: click the Preview button now found on your toolbar. It will immediately freeze all your mail locked closed. Now to read a mail without opening you can right click on the message and you'll see a gray box with "properties" this is the one you want. Now a box with two tabs, that read: general and details. On general if you see just a couple of KBs you can pretty much assume it is okay, but if you want to make sure click on the details tab, now choose "Message Source" I usually make mine full screen size, so I can really see what's going on. Read closely. But if you have ANY doubts delete it! Why not do a search on google.com for some sites that teach about file extensions? So you will know what you are looking at. http://www.google.com/ With this "locked preview" You can delete the suspicious mail, then go to "Deleted Items" folder and delete if from there, all without ever opening the mail. I will use "*" and spaces to keep from setting off folk's v i r u s filters. RootsWeb Help Desk. A great site, with MANY helpful links. Scroll Down to the section on 'this' subject right after the Social Security section. Begins with V. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ You can get a free v*i*r*u*s scan here: Housecalls from PC-cillin http://www.antivirus.com/pc-cillin/ or here at PC-Pitstop: They will check your whole system if you want. http://pcpitstop.com/ Free Anti-V*i*r*u*s protection and many love this one: AVG AV http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm This one is very important, if you don't already have it. ZoneAlarm. >From the add at site: Stay Ahead of Hackers ZoneAlarm Pro provides world-class protection against Internet-borne threats like worms, Trojan horses, and spyware. Connect to the Internet with confidence! Compatible with Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000 and XP http://www.zonelabs.com/ The free version is in the lower left hand corner. A very GOOD program. The following was found in the current quarterly of the Suwannee Valley Genealogical Society, Inc. They found it in "Harvesting the Family Tree 1988" Hemet-San Jacinto Genealogical Society and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Enjoy. Sharon THE GENEALOGIST'S PSALM by Wildamae Brestal Genealogy is my pastime, I shall not stray; It maketh me lie down and examine Half buried tombstones. It leadeth me into still Court Houses, It restoreth my ancestral knowledge. It leadeth me in paths of census records and Ships' passenger lists for my surname's sake. Yea, though I walk through the shadows of Research libraries and microfilm readers, I shall fear no discouragement; For a strong urge is within me; The curiosity and motivation - They comfort me. It demandeth preparation of storage space For the acquisition of countless documents; It anointest my head with burning midnight oil. My family group sheets runneth over. Surely birth, marriage and death dates shall Follow me all the days of my life; And I shall dwell in the house of A family history seeker forever..
