Christi, the first person you listed was a hit for me! It's really Daniel R. Dedge, Ellender (Eleanor Sullivant) my GGG aunt , Lucretia and James . I did not have them listed anywhere for 1850 so I thrilled. Daniel R. Dedge was elected the first sheriff of Charlton County when it was formed. Thanks again. Gary --
Christi, Do is an abbreviation of "ditto".
Thank you Christopher for the advise. On some of the census records I have looked at, the Ts, Ls and Js all look alike. I have used the 1860 census that you transcribed and it has helped so much. Thank you for doing that. Christi
Did anyone receive the obits I sent for week of Jan. 2-5, 2002? I usually receive my posts back but so far that one didn't. Do I need to resend? Teresa
Forgot you couldn't send attachments. When I past it in the email, it get out of line (tab marks do not remain). Here it goes again. If anyone thinks that I should do something different with this, I will take any advise. I will not be able to do this real fast, due to work and I go to school at night. There is always the weekends though and I am kind of excited myself about doing this. In fact, the first page contained my 4th great-grandfather, Ezekiel Miller. I have not done much on him as of yet, so this was the first time I have seen him on here. The 1850 Ware Census is 86 pages. Hi List, Does anyone still have the web-site address for Music Funeral Home in Waycross? I lost it when my computer crashed. I am trying to get my favorite folder started back. Thanks Joyce
Thank you Diana.
Dear GAWARE List Members, For the past two years or so, I have been acting as list hostess for this list. I have in the past asked for some of you to volunteer to step in and take my place. However, no one had the time, or were unable for various reasons. So, I have continued. I must say honestly, I do enjoy the list. You, the people, of this list make that the case for me. We have always been blessed to enjoy the finest group of genealogists. I am now officially your list hostess. Judy Roberts is co-hostess. Only because we must have someone in charge, to take care of the mechanics and various things of running a list. It doesn't make us any more important than every other member of this list. It IS our responsibility to see that it upholds the definitions set down by RootsWeb. In the PAST, you have given 'generously', just to name of few ways: of your time, of your data, from your pocketbooks and from your hearts! to various requests made on this list . Notice I did say PAST. That will not be a concern of yours in the future. Giving from your pocketbooks, that is. The only requests you will continue to receive is the sharing of data and your time as permitted by your life situation. This is something most of you do anyhow, without being asked. It is the heart of a true genealogist. Like Joy's sharing of her conviction in desiring to return family mementos to the families. What a heart-warming thought. This GAWARE list is a RootsWeb project and as such; was designed to supply genealogy information free for ALL. This list will be directed toward the discussion and sharing of genealogy data and history concerning the families of this genealogy. You are receiving requests to share things to be posted on the Ware County GenWeb site, please help with any of these projects you can. It is open and free for all. Think of how good it makes you feel to go to a site and find a lot of good data listed. This data has to come from somewhere. It is given by folks just like us. They have given of their time and abilities and their own research data, and made some wonderful resources available for everyone else. One only has to "logon". I look forward to our Ware County Page being one of those good sites folks enjoy, that will benefit many. Many thanks again, to Virginia Crilley and Scott Warren for working in that direction. AND for those of you, who have already given and offered your volunteer services. There will be NO discussion of this on the list. PRO or CON. Privately please if you have anything to say. shadri@perry.gulfnet.com We do not need to discuss business on this list any more. It should never have been done. To the many of you who feel that you have been given nothing but empty promises in the past. I am truly sorry for my part in that. I can only promise you that I will do my best in helping, along with each of you, to keep our great list together and a place to enjoy genealogy. EVERYONE is welcome on this list. It is a new year. To those of you concerned about the items many of us have ordered, or subscribed to in the past...please take it PRIVATELY to Linda Angell. Her e-mail: langell@linkamerica.net I know I join you all when I say, I sure was glad to see that Linda is able to be up and about and online again. I hope her a full recovery soon. She has had a long battle. Well, List Members, I felt I 'needed' to say something. You deserve that. Not meaning to contradict my own self about "no business on the list." However, I know many of you are disheartened, some confused, some may be angry or disillusioned. I plead with you to understand and let's ALL continue on together, with the cause of genealogy. I have learned that things usually work out for the best, if we stay true, and keep the faith. Sharon Driver Wright shadri@perry.gulfnet.com
Thanks so much Christi for your help. I hope to return the favor someday. Joy
I found the answer. It does say Do and it means ditto. Christi
I need help trying to determine (it looks like to me a cursive "Do") what this Do under occupation means and if it is really a Do. Christi

Some of the names you realize were written as the census taker thought he heard them pronounced where the person didn't know how to spell their name/names. Good luck and thanks for your help with Ware County. Christopher

It is shorthand for ditto. You need to follow up to the first listed occupation. ----- Original Message ----- From: <CHRISTIGREENE@aol.com> To: <GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 07, 2002 2:58 PM Subject: [GAWARE] 1850 census help reading > I need help trying to determine (it looks like to me a cursive "Do") what > this Do under occupation means and if it is really a Do. > > Christi > > > ==== GAWARE Mailing List ==== > To Unsubscribe:send mail to > GAWARE-L-request@rootsweb.com > with the single word unsubscribe in the message subject and body. > Judy Roberts- Co-Hostess- j2roberts@sum.net > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
Christi, Thank you for you answer. If it wouldn't be too much trouble, how many males are listed with him in the 1820 census? Thank you for your help, Joy
I have access to the 1850 census at Ancestry and would love to help. The only thing is sometimes I cannot read or make out the name or word. I would be willing to do what I could. Christi Greenie
Thanks again Sharon, but no luck yet. I am going to keep trying. Also, you wrote "I know y'all get tired of seeing my name in your mailboxes" and that is definitely not the case for me. You seem be full of great information that pertains to everyone. I appreciate it. Thank You Christi
Hi, I'm not sure if she was born a Thomas, or if that could be her married name, if she married before my 2nd great grandfather, Elias Aldridge. I don't have the parents of Kate yet. As far as I know, she is probably from Pierce or Ware Co. She is buried in Ware Co. Born in 1872 if I remember correctly. Joy
Thank you Sharon for your information on the Browns. As of today, I only know of David Brown, no relatives. Thanks again...Christi
