Ok at one time part of what is now Brantley Co. was once part of Ware Co. My George Lewis Lee married a total of four times. One of his four wives was a Mary Knight but what I have is Macie Ann Knight. Questions I have are this, Grannie always called her Mary Knight???? So I wonder if this perhaps could be the same lady that you have if so I have some on her to share with you. Now it could be another woman I don't know at this point all I do know is this, This woman had a infant that died in 1903-1907 and by 1808 Grandpa Lee was again married and becoming a father. Macie or Mary was his third wife. I think she died perhaps during this birth, the one we have. So you may want to broaden your search to include not only Ware but also, Pierce and Brantley and Charleton Co's GA as well when looking for her to learn more. If you do find that she may be the same lady please let me know as I would like to add that marriage to her information that I have. Gail

Lee, Mary Roddenberry was born 1805 in N.C., the daughter of George Roddenberry (1758) and Mary Knight (1775) married my GGG Uncle, Jeremiah Underhill, on 29 Nov 1821 in Bulloch Co. Ga. Hoping someone might have some information on a Mary Roddenberry who married Jeremiah Underhill. In Huxford I found sketches for Jeremiah's father William as well as his brother Joseph, nothing on Jeremiah except some mention made in each of the before mentioned. Huxford did give year of birth for each as 1797 with Mary's year of birth followed by Bulloch, Ware, & Camden. Any information on Mary Roddenberry & Jeremiah Underhill would be greatly appreciated. Dear List Members, I have uploaded some pages to the Ware County, GaGenWeb site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaware/ When you have a chance, please check them out. I still have a number of things that I am working on to upload. The surnames A-Z, so much out of date info, I am correcting those I know to be wrong. Also have some more old history items, from Barbara to build pages for. Some cemetery photos that were sent before from Ray, and several other items are still in need of doing. Don't miss the page of old postcards that Barbara generously sent for us all to enjoy. Also, on that page her name, at the top, is a hyperlink, check that out for a little info about her. I will add a note about this on the page. If any of you have volunteered for something, and I don't have it listed, please e-mail me privately and let me know what you are offering to folks and the guidelines and conditions of that offer. shadri@perry.gulfnet.com Also, as you look over the pages, see if you have any data you are willing to contribute towards Ware County genealogy. I long for us to have a county site that offers all a good genealogy, research source. Thanks to each of you, we are on the way. Many thanks too, to Scott Warren, who worked so hard for so long, to build what is there. It is a lot of work! Please let me know at my e-mail address [above link], of any broken links or kinks you find. I had to change the backgrounds of several pages already. They were pretty, but too slow! Had to take my Georgia peaches off the family pages! At least until I make some of smaller file size. Sharon
It is my understanding that the term FREE PERSON OF COLOR did not apply only to black and mixed black people in 1840. In this case the Nunez boys were of Portuguese descent and we think they probably had the olive skin tone found in people of Mediteranian descent. It is highly unlikely that a black or mixed black man would have been allowed to marry a white woman and live in Ware or Appling County, Georgia in 1840. I think the law in Georgia was very strict in that regard. In later census the word mulato was used instead of this term but up until after the Civil War, it may have had a different meaning in the census. If any of you have additional information on this or if you know where records of the law and definition of the terminalogy in use in 1840 can be found I would appreciate your input. Just a little additional information: 30 UNIS, Alexander 0000000000000-0000001000000 (1 Free Colored Male, 36-55) (Alexander Nunez; 1st wife Ruth ____?; 2nd wife Sophia _____?; one daughter Mary Young) (Son of Daniel Nunez of Wayne Co.; Brother of Daniel and Hugh Nunez of Appling Co.)
