Sharon: That brings a memory. When I was baptised, it was as if the whole church got baptised that day. I remember standing in line forever; scared to death. But, I was only 10 at the time and things looked so much bigger as a child than they do now as an adult. I do remember receiving a "certificate" from the church and my grandmother kept it for me. Now, what she did with that, the lord only knows!!! I will check with my aunt....she has all of granny's records that she kept in a brown leather pouch that zipped. Can't wait to get in that pouch this weekend! But, I can also check with the church while I am there. I hadn't even thought about that certificate until now. Thanks for bringing back a memory. Teresa Currie Blevins
Teresa and All, I enjoyed your Baptism memory. I was Baptized here in my home county of North Florida in Rocky Creek at a place called "The Rise". The creek like some of our rivers travel underground for a few miles, then pop up again in sinks etc. It was in the month of March on the 4th, in 1973...COLD, so I didn't have to worry about gators & snakes, thank goodness. Does anyone know how to go about obtaining Baptismal records? Is it even possible? I know the old ones back in the 1700s and 1800s were recorded. I know we would as always want to protect the living and not post information about them that some wicked one might get ahold of. Maybe this would fall under the Church Minutes and History? If so, it would be so good if we could get some old Chuch Minutes from the Ware County Churches. Hmmmmm We have so many possibilites of future resources, gang. Hope we see some come to light. Don't forget, I am open to your ideas. I am a total beginner at this, so need all the help I can get. I know some people have transcribed old church minutes. Are these stored somewhere on microfilm? How do we order them if so? Sharon >When I went to get baptised, I was scared to death that a snake would swim up my dress or an aligator would come and bite me. Isn't it funny the little things that a person remembers? Teresa Currie Blevins<
Kati, Amen sister! Good Soapbox sermon. <G> I want to say right here, how proud I feel to be a part of the group here at GAWARE. I know in my heart based on the couple of years I've seen y'all in action, that when I post a message like that to this list that almost all of you will take the time to look at your data. Some will even be able to help at times. I don't even have to follow up to ask if you did, because I just know that is how you are. I have shared this before, but will say again. Almost without fail, when I have helped someone else...not long afterward, I too, have received new information about one of my lines. This isn't 'why' I help of course, but in all areas of life the goodness we give comes back. Genealogy is the same way. My sincere hope is that good blessings are 'multiplied' back to each of you good people here in this group. You deserve it. You make mine and Judy Robert's jobs as Co-Manager & Manager easy ones GAWARE Friends and Cousins. Thank You! Sharon Wright Kati wrote: >Not all help is posted back to the lists. I will take more photos this weekend of any cemetery I may visit and forward to you. Unfortunately, the weather man is calling for rain on Saturday. Will keep you posted! Teresa CBlevins

Christopher: Thank you for verifying Camp Branch. I knew the name sounded so familiar. I remember that my sisters and I participated in a Christmas program there as well. When I went to get baptised, I was scared to death that a snake would swim up my dress or an aligator would come and bite me. Isn't it funny the little things that a person remembers? Thanks again for answering my question. I went to Booth cemetery back in May of last year as well as Suwannee Chapel. Have relatives in both cemeteries. Teresa Currie Blevins
Teresa, this is Camp Branch Church of God of Prophecy you are talking about. It sounds like you were baptised in the Camp Branch. I was never at a baptising there but several at Booth Congregational Methodist church when growing up. (It is now called Victory Chapel because of a name change, I am sorry to say. The cemetery is still called Booth cemetery.) Christopher
I have read on numerous occasions that the Creeks inhabited this area. But, I occasionally read that somebody "believes their relative was Cherokee". Can anyone tell me if the Cherokees were found this far south? If so, any websites or periodicals to back up this information? I don't have the facts but have been taught that most Cherokees inhabited North GA. Just a thought to ponder....Teresa Currie Blevins
Christopher: As a little girl, I know we went to Suwannee Church but I also remember going to a holiness chuch and being baptised in some pond near the church. Would this be Camp Branch? That name sounds so familiar. This church, was north of Manor, down a paved road then down a long dirt road. I remember you had to go past the school for a long way then turn on a dirt road. Do you know what church I am talking about? I would love to revisit that place. I don't know if it had a cemetery. I just remember the church, the singing and the "spirit" in the air. Hi All, I sent the the message below to Cheryl. With an unusual middle name like Xmas, I figured a quick search would not be amiss. Normally, I don't post messages like this back to the list since, as Sharon said, Cheryl is not a subscriber. But lately I've seen messages (not just on this list) stating that once a person has posted their query, they're not getting help. Not all help is posted back to the lists. And not all queries can be answered by someone on the list. Just because no one had the answer to your first query, doesn't mean you shouldn't keep on posting. I often do lookups in resources that I have here at home and finding nothing, make no reply to the list. Should we fill up the GAWARE mailbox with things like: " I checked XXXX but didn't find anything." I don't think so. But please don't think your post is unimportant. And please don't give up.
