Just received my 2nd great grandfather, Banner Gunter's, death certificate in the mail the other day. I once thought that Banner's parents were James W. Gunter & Harriet Bagley. It lists Banner's parents as Jimmie Gunter & Hettie Guy. Jimmie, also known as James Richard Gunter, is the son of James W. Gunter & Elizabeth Bagley. I found out that Hettie (AKA Hester) is the daughter of William Guy & Bathsheba Thomas. Bathsheba Thomas is the daughter of Banner Thomas & Mary Mixon. So, this is where Banner Gunter gets his name Banner! Bathsheba also had a brother named Banner. Seems that the name Banner was kept well in that family. If anyone has any info about this family they would like to share, I would certainly appreciate it. Thanks, Joy _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com

Don't remember who wanted this one. Hope it was someone on our GAWARE list. Waycross Journal-Herald, Monday, December 8, 1913: MRS. A. E. COCHRAN IS TAKEN BY DEATH Early Sunday morning Mrs. A.E. Cochran, the wife of a well known attorney of this city, died at her home on Hicks street after a long illness. While her death was not unexpected it came as a great shock to her relatives and friends. Mrs. Cochran is survived by her husband and one daughter. Her mother, Mrs. A.M. Marshall, of Jacksonville; two sisters, Mrs. W.A. Kennon, of Monroe, La., and Mrs. W.K. Overby of Tifton, and two brothers, S.A. Marshall of Jacksonville and F.H. Marshall, of Meehan Junction, Miss., also survive. Funeral services were held at the home this afternoon at two-thirty o'clock, interment being at Lott cemetery. In their loss the relatives have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends of this city, where Mrs. Cochran was beloved by all who knew her.

Good to see your name again. I would love for you to check for any Rowland /Roland Ruis/Rewis as I haven't been able to find what Ruis or Rowland entered the U. S. that connects to my lines. Hi, this is Judy Strickland! I doubt that there are very many of you who will still remember me. Just wanted to say "Hello" and let everyone know that I'm still here!! To those who are new - I have the Ware Co., 1850 census, a copy of the SAR REV. War Patriots Index, and a searchable index of Passenger and Immigration lists from the 1500's-early 1900's - there are over 3 million names on this index. Before this, you had to have the ship's name or the port of departure and/or arrival. This list, however, is indexed by name. Some of the names have a good bit of information - the names of everyone in the family and their ages, places or origin, etc. Others only have the name of the passenger who booked the trip. I will be happy to do lookups for anyone who asks. I also have a copy of the 100th Anniversary of the Bickley Methodist Church book covering the dates of 1888-1988. However, it does have data on some of the smaller churches on the "Bickely circuit" that goes back much further than 1888. The membership list for the Bickley church is there in its entirety for all those years, as well as the membership records and short church histories from other small churches like - Elizabeth Chapel, Nicholls United Meth., New Prospects, Roxie Mae, Pine Grove (burial place for James and Cinderella Lee and many of their children), Bethel, Meeks, Mt. Zion and Anthony. Also, Camp Ground, Waresboro First United. One of the most interesting things in the books are the "mini" biographies of the founding members of the Bickley Church (my grandparents are among them). Others among the founding members are: BENSON AND INEZ BUTLER ISAAC CARTER AND MARY ANNA "MINNIE" WAY CARTER(this is a very detailed bio) ADDISON WAY CARTER, SR AND RHODA MAE FRIER CARTER WILLIAM OSBURN "GOOD" AND EVA DOUGLAS CARTER WILL BRINSON AND AGNES CARTER LEE (NOTE: Will was the brother of my grandfather, Henry Newton Lee. Will was named after a family friend "Will T. BRINSON" -"big man of Bolen. I have a photo of Will T. There are lots of photos of the old Methodist churches and their congregations standing out front. Please let me know if you would like copies of any of this information. I will be glad to send it to you. About the Will T. Brinson advertising card - I have this card scanned (both sides) and will be glad to send that to anyone interested. My own research is on the following lines: LEE, JOHN MILLER, JACOB (WILLIAM HENRY MILLER) CASON, THOMAS MCDONALD, RANDAL BUCHANAN????- MY g.grandmother was Annie Belle Buchanan who married Walter L. Cason. Huxford says that she was from Florida and that her father was Christopher Columbus Buchanan - THIS IS NOT HER FATHER!!! She may have been born in Fla. but he is proven NOT to be her father. Her death certificate (filled out by a Cason family member) gives her father's name as "Hy" Buchanan - I have always assumed this to be a nickname for Hyram/Hiram. ANY information on Annie Belle Buchanan or her 1/2 sister, Bobbie Lee Buchanan will be much appreciated. In 1885, when my G.Grandmother was married to Walter Cason - Bobbie Lee Buchanan and many family members were living in Magnolia, Ark. I look forward to hearing from old friends and new ones!! ps. I also have a lot of grave photos from my own research if anyone is interested. Judy Stirckland
<snipped> My great grandmother was born after 1895 (her husband was born then) and she Teresa Currie Blevins< Teresa, What is your grandmother's name? Could you give us as many details as possible? Someone just might have something that would help you. I sure hope so. Sharon
Friends and Cousins, I have been working on the Surnames pages at your Ware County WebSite, believe it, or not. It is slow going. Trying to update as I go. The Research List that I was keeping and posting from time to time, is really coming in handy for this job. I am going back and forth on the alphabet for a more 'fair' way of updating. The following letters are ready to be viewed [I hope] ABC, UVWXYZ....some do not have any surnames yet, so that is why more on the end is done. ;-) http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaware/surnames.html
GAWARE List Members, I know this work isn't completed at this site, but it is such a nice thing to look forward to, wanted you to be aware of it. Also, some of it is now searchable and well worth a look. http://fpc.dos.state.fl.us/memory/collections/ Florida Confederate Pension Application Files The Florida State Archives is in the process of digitizing its collection of Confederate pension records with over 7,300 pensions currently available online. I know this is Florida Pension Files...but numerous soldiers and their widows from Georgia units are listed. Some are already accessible, they will be blue in color. I wasn't lucky enough to find any of mine clickable yet...did see some kin, so hope they will be added soon. Saw 10pgs for my ggg-grandfather in the 1s Btn, Spc Cav, Abner Mitchell Rutherford Sessions, I figger most of that is taken up with writing his name. ;-) Spanish Land Grants The first portion of an extensive series of Spanish land grant claims related to the territory that Spain ceded to the United States in 1821. They only have As & Bs done here so far...I did see the name BAGLEY which I believe some of you research. You will have to have Adobe Acrobat to read the pdf files...you can download it free there if you don't have it. Sharon
If you get an email from '"Microsoft Corporation Security Center"' - with an attachment, delete it - for it contains a very bad virus. http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.gibe@mm.html Microsoft updates always pester you while you're trying to browse the Internet... they never come via email. I read your email citing specific places to search for records. Here is my delimma: My great grandmother was born after 1895 (her husband was born then) and she had a total of three children. Two survived and one died. The two surviving children are deceased along with their spouses. The 1900 and 1910 census does not list her or her husband at the time. She died in 1920 and their is not a birth or death record for her. I have been told her father's name and found very little information which did not contain her as a relative. I have checked the LDS; Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com for any connection and turn up empty handed. Her grave is unmarked in Telfair Co and luckily, through the kindness of an aunt and uncle, I got to visit her grave last weekend. I have checked numerous courthouses for records; and I am terribly stumped. As a "newbie", what should I do next? Thank you for any suggestions: Teresa Currie Blevins
