    3. ;-) Sorry Olivia...it is just an abbreviation for thumbnail prints, the small ones we click on. I'm laughing wondering if you were looking for thumbs, like beside our fingers. Maybe I better change that to thumbnails on the web pages, don't want to confuse folks. I am glad the old scenes were preserved for us in these Old Picture Postcards. Glad too, many are being placed online for us to see. Sharon ===================================== Sharon, What's a thumb? I can't believe that Atlanta had as much open space as the postcard of the hotel and apartments show. I remember both of these things. Olivia

    3. Hello All You GAWARE List Members, Hope this finds you all are fine as frog's hair split three ways. Thanks to the generosity of YOU...we have more updates. Barbara submitted some BIBB family pix from Oakland Cemetery: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaware/cemetery.html Wanda doesn't know it, but she gave me an idea, for Obituaries, so I started with hers. You can see it in it's itty bitty beginning stage on the "Obituaries 2" link on the Ware County GAGenWeb page. These did not take place IN Ware County, but are our Ware County researcher's family lines. I plan to check the archives for some more. If you have some, give me a holler by way of e-mail and I'll do my best to get them posted. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaware/index.html I am looking forward to receiving a document about an early tax collector, I know that isn't a pleasant word right now! 'Taxes', that is. You know when you put the word THE and IRS together it spells THEIRS! This is an early tax collector of Ware County. I have no idea what data will be included, but hopefully will get either a scanned image of it, or transcribe it as soon as I receive it. This cousin says she has some more documents pertaining to Ware County...so I have let her know we are interested in ANYthing about this area for the County Website. If any of you have Wills or probate records or any kind of documents...please send me a copy or transcribe it and send the data so we can post it online for all to enjoy. As always, you are each appreciated, just for being here. We are thankful for you. Sharon Driver Wright your list manager shadri@perry.gulfnet.com

    3. Re: GAWARE-D Digest V02 #113 Re: 1930 Census Help Judy, It may be that you are not doing anything wrong. A friend sent me the message below about the recorded message at the National Archives. Ancestry.com only has Delaware posted so far. Site says 'today' that they plan to add one a week. Yesterday, the site said the 1930 Census would be made available within hours of their receipt of it. Does this mean that we Southerners will not have an alphabetical index available to us? Some of the other years are only 'partially' indexed as well. Sharon ------------------------------------------------------------ According to a National Archives recorded message, part of the 1930 Census records are indexed using the Soundex coding system that allows people to search for a last name by sound rather than spelling. But that system has been used only for Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and parts of Kentucky and West Virginia. Census researchers seeking data about people who lived in "non-indexed states" were warned they probably will have more difficulty finding them, especially if they do not know where in a state a person lived.

    2. 1930 CENSUS HELP!! Can someone please explain something to me about searching the 1930 Census. I went to the site - put in the last name of CASON. It brought up two rolls of film along with the Soundex code for Cason and the roll numbers of the film. Problem is that under the alphabetical names - one roll says it covers Roy A - Robert and the other one covers Robert - Rosie L. I need Walter Cason. What am I doing wrong? Anyone?? Many thanks - Judy Strickland

    1. [GAWARE] Re: MILLER,SWEAT,ANDERSON
    2. Hello List....thought I would quit lurking and repost my family. I am looking for info on my gggrandfather, Stephen Frederick Miller, b. 1851,d. 1919, buried at Millwood Cemetery. He was Sheriff several terms and US Representative for several terms. He was the son of David Jesse Miller and Loanza Dyess. He married first, Julia Sweat, d/o James Jarrell Sweat and Mary Blackburn, b. 1860, d. bef. 1897, burial place unknown. It is reported that Julia was unable to bear children and they "adopted" two girls, the first being Francis Davis ( designated as ' niece' in the 1880 census, and abt. 4 yrs. old), and the second named Jettie. In Dec. 1897, Stephen married 2, Olive Jordan, and had several children with her. I am looking for the obituary of Stephen, the burial place of Julia, and any connection of these two to Davis'. Thanx for any help at all, Jane in Fl.
