If you will go to the USGS GNIS Map Server and type in the names of the rivers or streams, i.e. Kettle Creek you can pull up the maps on most, if not all, of the waterways in any of the states. Good luck!
You may find some of those creeks interspersed with the rivers that they feed into. I know that occurs with a few of the creeks. Christopher, Sadly, I am not aware of any sites for creeks in Georgia. There are simply too many of them for me to be able to find them and locate maps of them. Many creeks are "here today and gone when it dries up." Sharon, Thanks for sharing Richard Pettys, Jr's Georgia rivers site with us. I found it informative and very interesting. This caused me to wonder if there is a site for creeks and branches in Georgia. I am particularly interested in Camp Branch Creek, Kettle Creek, Big Alligator Creek, Little Alligator Creek, Suwanee Creek, Suwanuchee (Sp) Creek, and Bear Creek. If a creek or stream runs through your property is that section of it your private property of is it like a river which is public property? Does anyone know? Thank you, Christopher
Ray, It was only the business part that we didn't need to discuss on the list. We are ALWAYS interested hearing about our fellow researcher's success stories. We like to rejoice with you, AND it encourages us not to give up, and to keep on trying. I am thrilled for you learning about your great grandfather NUNEZ. I agree there were some mighty fine articles in the OHGS quarterlies, they will be missed by many. Since Linda got the old newspapers on micro-film...surely those would be available somewhere? Maybe someone on the list can tell us. You are very correct that there are many good facts about our ancestors listed in the old papers. I join you in hoping good health for Linda, and that she will be able to again enjoy her love of genealogy. When we get to the point we can't say something like that on the list, well we've gone too far. This has always been a family oriented list, and the members have always encouraged and helped one another....that is what has made it so great. We haven't forgotten that behind the screen names are 'real people' with human needs, feelings and yes frailities...this group at GAWARE has the biggest hearts around. Whether sharing genealogy or offering prayers and encouragement, none better than here. Sharon (Driver) Wright ==================================== I hope I don't get in trouble with Sharon for posting this on the GAWARE list. But if anybody is interested. I recieved two copies of the Hoot Owl about a month ago. I understand those will be the last ones published and I will miss it. I found out my gr-grandpa JB Nunez, Sr was a member of the IOOF in Waycross in 1900. I'd like to read the rest of the newspaper articles. I sent a check to Linda Angell to renew my membership in the OHGS and she returned it. I'd like to thank Linda for all the hard work she's done on the Hoot Owl. I'm praying for her health right now and maybe she will be able to persue her genealogical interests in the future. Ray

http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/georgia/ GAWARE Friends and Cousins, I encourage you to visit the Georgia Maps site that Richard Pettys, Jr. is creating, at the URL above. He also happens to be our Regional Coordinator, since we are in the Coastal Region. This is a nice site and I noticed he has that humor of his spread thru-out. I like that. We need more laughter and smiles in this world. After that comment about Joan, on the Rivers of Georgia...I was looking for a quote from an Alan Jackson song about the heat along the Chattahoochee.<Very Big Grin> That word Chattahoochee is kind of like Mississlippi...you get started typing letters and it's hard to quit. A woderful resouce for Georgia researchers. Looking forward to those that he has in the works now. Check it out. Sharon
Crilley: I need to find Edward A. Cothran (sic) or E.A. Cothran (sic) on the US censuses of 1860-1870. I know where he was in 1875 and in 1851 but can't place him in home with his own children after marriage to Mary Ann White in Calhoun Co., AL then Benton Co., AL.........................They had married in Sept. of that year right after the 1850 was taken. I have them both for 1850 as well...............I have a huge gap for him. I have gone into the GA Archives but can't seem to find the Atlanta Area GA Censuses for that year which is where he is said to have lived prior to being in Gadsden, AL in 1875 employed by his Niece and her Husband working at the Gadsden Times Newspaper office. In an article from that old paper he went for Christmas to Hamburg AR to visit his children there, but without names for his children I am having no luck following this branch on down................ Can you help me. His Mother Mary sister Irene and brother George are seen living in Fulton Co. GA that same year on the US Census of 1870. In 1860 they were all living back in Centre, AL Cherokee Co. with Andrew Jackson Cothran CSA still alive and well, he then joined the 19th AL. Inf. Co. H and was killed during the war. I can trace Mary up to her death back again in Centre, AL after the 1870 Census was taken until her later years. But main problem is with E.A. Cothran seen also at times as Cockrum and Cothren and Cothron among other spellings. Is there an index for that year for Fulton Co. GA? Gail

looking for anyone living in Pierce or Wayne County that can do obituary lookups.
Virginia, I sure thank you for your reply. What a great idea to post this good data to your County site. So, judging by this in 1850 I should be able to find out a few things about him. Guess it doesn't give the spouse's name, since it just says married/widowed etc. I made a mistake in my first post, Jacob Driver was my 4th great grandfather, his son George Washington Driver was my 3rd great, he was living in Ware on the 1850 Census, the same year his father [said to be] died in Gwinnett Co. Thanks again, Virginia. Sharon >1850 Mortality Information for each person who died during the year ending 1 June 1850 Name, age , sex, color (white, black or mulatto), whether married or widowed, place of birth, occupation, month of death, cause of death, number of days ill<
Dear List Members, I wonder if someone could answer this for me concerning the Georgia Mortality Schedules. How often were they done? How did the counties come by the information published in the Mortality Schedules? When did they begin? I am trying to find information about a Jacob DRIVER, who was listed on the 1850 Mortality Schedule for Gwinnett County, Georgia. He is "said to be" my ggg-grandfather. The Mortality Schedule sources I have seen, are only transcribed index like lists. They always list him as Jacob Driver age 71, born SC, died February 1850. Yesterday I was searching at Ancestry.com, it is my first experience with viewing their census images, it gave this Mortality Schedule as one of the hits for Jacob DRIVER. No image available however. They had his name listed as Jacob G. DRIVER. I have never seen the middle initial before. Does anyone have a copy of this schedule that would be willing to do a lookup for this name in Gwinnett County for me? I would be so thankful. Or tell me if they are stored publicly somewhere and available for searching? Sharon Driver Wright Florida shadri@perry.gulfnet.com
My understanding is that they were done the SAME year at the census....BUT they covered the people who died in the previous CENSUS year. (usually June1) this is something that I put on-line for Taylor County which shows that the information did vary from year to year....just like the Census Schedules themselves. Probably what you're finding on-line is the "brief" version----as many of the census on-line are as well. I've not checked to see if Ancestry Census Subscription allows you access to Mortality rolls...and if those are included on their site. MORTALITY SCHEDULES In some years, records of persona who had died during the previous year, called Mortality Schedules were published. 1850 Mortality Information for each person who died during the year ending 1 June 1850 Name, age , sex, color (white, black or mulatto), whether married or widowed, place of birth, occupation, month of death, cause of death, number of days ill 1860 Mortality Information for each person who died during the year ending 1 June 1860 Name, age , sex, color (white, black or mulatto), whether slave or free, whether married or widowed, place of birth, occupation, month of death, cause of death, number of days ill 1870 Mortality Information for each person who died during the year ending 1 June 1870 Name, age , sex, color (white, black, mulatto, Chinease or Indian), whether slave or free, whether married or widowed, place of birth, whether father and mother foreign born occupation, month of death, cause of death. 1880 Mortality Information for each person who died during the year ending 1 June 1880 Name, age , sex, color , whether slave or free, whether married or widowed, place of birth, length of residence in U.S.; whether father and mother foreign born occupation, month of death, cause of death, place cause of death contracted and name of attending physician. Hi All, I was under the impression that there was NOT going to be any more Hoot Owls. Several members of the OHGS never got all of the issues that they paid for. I never got what I paid for when I was a member and never joined again!. I was tired of begging for the issues of the Hoot Owl that I paid for and did not receive. The last that iI knew.... GAWARE Gang, When you have time, please check out the URL below and look at the photos of the CCC Camp which was located at Homerville, GA. If you can ID any of the men, PLEASE let me know.
