    3. At the time of the creation of Brantley, my mapper shows Bachlott just above the Charlton line, about five time the distance from the Pierce county line. Another thing I noticed with the change, Pierce County lost area west of the Satilla to Ware county, the area would have included the area west of Schlatterville area to a line just east of where the current line folllowing Hwy 82 turns North to the river. If the current line from 82 to the river is extended south to the current Charlton line everything east of the line would have been Pierce prior to the creation of Brantley. This corrects some of my assumptions that a couple of Cason and Peacock families moved but only the line changed. 3. Sheila, No, Olivia was just proud of herself for figuring out how to answer at the top of the messages with her new laptop. <grins> Thanks for all your help to everyone. Like Lorraine said, cousins stickin' together. The cousin who answered my question about my BYRD family the other day, we don't think our BYRDs are connected? However, he mentioned his mother's PEACOCK line. I told him I had one too. We found out that his John PEACOCK was my Lydia PEACOCK's brother, well, his John Peacock married Drucilla SULLIVAN and my Lydia Peacock married William SULLIVAN brother of his Drucilla. So, it pays to discuss all these family lines! Never know when and how they might jine up. Cousins by the dozens! Sharon Sharon, Did I miss something? I didn't see a response from Olivia with answers to this? Sheila

    3. Ok, based on what little information I have on Keziah Caroline Smith, and the fact that they lived and are buried in the southern part of what is now Brantley County, Bachlott area, and buried at Bachlott Cemetery, which is located in southern Brantley County, less than 3 miles from the Charlton County line, I would conclude that it was then Charlton County. However, Marty says that the county dividing line (Charlton/Wayne) at that time was right about where Uncle Vernon Johns lived, which is about a mile (give or take) from this particular cemetery and that his (great) Granny had to pay land taxes in Wayne County about that time. So it is really a toss up as to Wayne or Charlton. Sheila Gail Moore <[email protected]> wrote: Ok Brantley County GA formed in 1920 from Charlton, Pierce, Wayne Counties taking parts from each according to page 1 of the Handbook of Georgia Counties compiled by Marion R. Pierce was created on Dec. 18, 1857 from Ware and Appling Counties. Ware was created Dec. 15, 1824 from Appling County Appling Co. was created Dec. 15, 1818 from Original County created from land ceded by Treaties of Aug. 9, 1814 and Jan. 22, 1818. Charleton County was created Feb 18, 1854 from Camden Camden was created Feb. 5, 1777 from Original County created from st. Thomas Parish and St. Mary Parish. So is she died on July 22, 1885 she died in what was at that time, Either the part of Brantley Co that was taken away from Charleton County or the part of Pierce that was taken to make Brantley County or the part of Wayne that was taken to make Brantley County but the lady is found buried in Brantley Co. today so it is just much easier to say....................................Brantley Co. Takes up a lot less space also. I suppose we should all type it up as: Charlton, Pierce, Wayne, Brantley County for her place of death. However if a death cert. is lucky enought to be had, and I highly doubt that as they were not used back then, we could just go with what it says! BTW I have a copy of that little book if anyone ever needs me to check on a County for them.......................of course I think that most of this is now oline, but at times we have to know where to go online to start with.....................................................lol Gail ----- Original Message ----- From: "Olivia Mullis" To: Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2005 1:39 PM Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews, > Richard Hughes wrote: > The county is wrong. > > Olivia > >> I show him also married to Keziah Caroline Smith, b. 26 May 1853, d. 22 >> July 1885, Brantley Co., GA d/o William Smith and Elizabeth Stewart. >> >> They had 8 children. >> >> ----Original Message Follows---- >> From: "Gail Moore" >> Reply-To: [email protected] >> To: [email protected] >> Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews, >> Date: Fri, 28 Oct 2005 23:32:42 -0400 >> >> Sheila, >> How many wives do you have for Champ Johns? >> I show Bathsheba {Bathiba} Dowling as his wife? >> BUT have seen a Kizzie buried near by to him also? >> Is this who you mention here? >> The stone is now flat on the ground and is broken into pieces but still >> there. >> Is this her? >> Gail >> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rd C" >> To: >> Sent: Friday, October 28, 2005 11:22 AM >> Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews, >> >> >>> Barb, >>> I have Bartley Crews b. 1828(son of Isham Crews and Mary Johnson) >>> married to Mary Elizabeth Johns b. 1. Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews,
    2. Gail Moore
    3. Ok Brantley County GA formed in 1920 from Charlton, Pierce, Wayne Counties taking parts from each according to page 1 of the Handbook of Georgia Counties compiled by Marion R. Hemperley Georgia Surveyor General Dept. Office of Secretary of State Atlanta 1980.....................digging a bit deeper Wayne formed on May 11, 1803 Original County Created from land ceded by Treaty of June 16, 1802. BTW I have a copy of that little book if anyone ever needs me to check on a County for them.......................of course I think that most of this is now oline, but at times we have to know where to go online to start with.....................................................lol Gail ----- Original Message ----- From: "Olivia Mullis" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, October 29, 2005 1:39 PM Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews, > Richard Hughes wrote: > The county is wrong. > > Olivia > >> I show him also married to Keziah Caroline Smith, b. 26 May 1853, d. 22 >> July 1885, Brantley Co., GA d/o William Smith and Elizabeth Stewart. >> >> They had 8 children. >> >> ----Original Message Follows---- >> From: "Gail Moore" <[email protected]> >> Reply-To: [email protected] >> To: [email protected] >> Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews, >> Date: Fri, 28 Oct 2005 23:32:42 -0400 >> >> Sheila, >> How many wives do you have for Champ Johns? >> I show Bathsheba {Bathiba} Dowling as his wife? >> BUT have seen a Kizzie buried near by to him also? >> Is this who you mention here? >> The stone is now flat on the ground and is broken into pieces but still >> there. >> Is this her? >> Gail >> ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rd C" <[email protected]> >> To: <[email protected]> >> Sent: Friday, October 28, 2005 11:22 AM >> Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Johns, Crews, >> >> >>> Barb, >>> I have Bartley Crews b. 1828(son of Isham Crews and Mary Johnson) >>> married to Mary Elizabeth Johns b. 3. Maybe one day we will both get to visit that library.................everytime I think I may get the chance somethings seems to happen around here. I know one thing, I don't like or care for brown recluse Spiders at all! Tony, my husband got bit by one about two weeks back now today! It came up like an ant bite and that is what he thought it was. He went on to work and came home with his entire finger swelled up, he said nothing..........................he went to work and came home with his entire hand swollen up the next day...................I tried to get him to go to the doctor, he said it was only an ant and that he never felt it bite him. I said that can't be an ant bite......................man is hard headed I tell ya! He would not go......................he went on to work instead. About 2 am he calls and wakes me up asking me when my appointment was and to wait on him he was going with me! They ran some tests, gave him a good talking to and put him on meds and told him it should get better over the weekend, that was on Wensday, by Saturday we were visiting the ER, they had to lance it. He was told he would be lucky if it had not done tissue damage! They told him that the blood work that had been done at the doctors office on Wensday showed it to be a spider bite................................ The culture came back done in the ER proving a brown recluse was the spider that had bit him! They changed his meds and put him on two more, it is much better now thank goodness........................he said next time he would listen to me a bit better.........................................right!!! Live and learn. 1. Re: [GAWARE] Elizabeth ROWELL - William STARLING

    3. Sheila, Thank you for taking the time to look. In Volume 5 of POWG, there is a David ROWELL born 1806, son of David ROWELL RS. He married (2nd wife) Flora CAMPBELL. In Lowndes County. They had a daughter Elizabeth born Sep 2, 1834. It has "married UNKNOWN" beside her name. I wonder if she may be the one? However, it could be the Elizabeth ROWELL who was involved with William STARLING was a ROWELL by marriage. The name Elizabeth being so popular, it would be hard to know unless you found some record I suppose. Thanks again, Sharon Sharon, I do not have a daughter named Elizabeth listed for this David Rowell (1824-1922). I have him listed as married twice 1. Jane Howard (b. 1820 d. ?)with nine children, one being named Tobitha Isabella Rowell. 2. Basheba Heath (1844-1931). I have seen that information about the name change of those children, but my brain won't tell me right now where it was. I also have two other siblings of David Rowell and James A. Rowell (Lt. CSA), they are Andrew Rowell (no other information) and Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Rowell (1825-1905) who married Archibald Carroll (b. 1821). What is odd is that Archibald Carroll's parents were Edward (Carrell) Carroll and Elizabeth Rowell. I DO NOT have any information on this Elizabeth Rowell, dates of birth or death, parents, etc. And she may very well have been married before or after Edward Carroll. I hope this isn't confusing....but this is all I have right now. Sheila shadri <[email protected]> wrote: Does anyone know if this Elizabeth ROWELL was the daughter of David ROWELL? Or if not, do you have any further data on her? I am not a known ROWELL descendant. However, I am a STARLING descendant. William was my 4th great-Grandfather Thomas' brother. Thomas' son Abraham STARLING was my 3rd great-Grandfather Sharon Driver Wright Children of WILLIAM STARLING and ELIZABETH ROWELL are: viii. THOMAS6 STARLING, b. Abt. 1828, Georgia. ix. GATSY STARLING, b. Abt. 1830. x. TOBITHA STARLING, b. Abt. 1831. xi. JAMES R. STARLING, b. Abt. 1833. xii. ELLENDER STARLING, b. Abt. 1835. 1841- December 8 a legal name change is documented by a legislative act for the children: Gatsy, Tobitha "Bytha", and Thomas & Ellender, to change their names to Starling from Rowell to make them the legal heirs of their father, William Starling of Lowndes County, Georgia. In "Name Changes of Georgia" There are two different years listed for this legal name change. First December 24, 1832, then the 1841 date above.

    3. Hello List Mates, I know we always enjoy talking about old timey things on this list. There is a list that is made for this (and other subjects), and safe because it is a RootsWeb list too. Almost the same time Christopher asked about Chocolate Gravy, someone on that list also was talking about it. I have been subscribed for a while. It is called Homespun. I found it when doing a Google search for homespun fabric! The members are from all over the WORLD, not just the United States. Anyway, if you'd like to check it out click the link below. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Miscellaneous/HOMESPUN.html Take care, Sharon
