    3. Waycross Journal-Herald Nov. 2, 2005 Is this Buddy Raulerson connected to Russell Raulerson b. 1815 family? Man Who Stabbed Buddy Raulerson, Of Blackshear, Gets Long Jail Term BLACKSHEAR < A negotiated plea and sentencing in Pierce County Superior Court Tuesday resulted in a life prison sentence for a man accused of attacking a Blackshear man, said District Attorney Rick Currie. Jamie Lang Lewis, 34, entered a guilty plea Tuesday morning for the June 24, 2004 armed robbery, kidnapping and stabbing attack of William "Buddy" Raulerson, 80, of Blackshear, Currie said. Lawmen said the men were neighbors and that Lewis knocked on Raulerson's door to ask if he could use his washing machine. Once inside Raulerson's house, he stabbed and robbed him, leaving him for dead. But Raulerson crawled out onto his porch and fired a shotgun blast which alerted his neighbors, who called for help. Lewis was sentenced by Superior Court Chief Judge Stephen L. Jackson to life in prison on the armed robbery charge, 20 years on the aggravated battery charge, 20 years for kidnapping, 20 years for burglary and two 10-year terms for theft of a vehicle, each the maximum allowed by law, Currie said. "He was a particularly dangerous individual with a serious drug habit," said George E. Barnhill, chief assistant DA, who handled the prosecution of the case for the state. "He had been in prison six times prior to this happening," he said. "I feel sure if Mr. Raulerson had known Lewis's prior record or about his drug problem, he would have taken far more precautions before trying to help Lewis out. Hopefully, with this sentence, Jamie Lang Lewis will not present a threat to our community in the foreseeable future." "I would like to especially thank Special Agent Tom Crawford of the GBI and Detective Ramsey Bennett of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department for the time and effort they put into this case," said Barnhill. "This was one of the more serious crimes we have had in Pierce County over the last few years and without their efforts, we would not have been in this position we were to work out this plea. We had put a lot of work into this case and were prepared to try it. Lewis knew this. And he chose to enter the plea." From the Desktop of Sue & Richard Marsh

    3. Well one of them from these parts of GA ended up down in Polk and DeSota Co. Florida............................................. I found a cemetery out in the middle of an orange grove. I had to get directions for this one, and thought I was lost once and turned around and went back to the store to ask someone, she said oh no...........................just keep going you can't miss the iron marked posts at the gate where you turn left and then start counting trees down to get to the right row to drive down between to get to the clearing where the cemetery is at! And bless my sole there it was! I took toombstone photos of them all. I can tell you this: This bunch buried there connects into my Lee tree! Lets' see James Lee b. 1790 and Cinderella Sellars Some of their kids married Taylors who went to North Florida and kept going and some of them also married Albrittons and anyway I found a whole bunch of them down in Florida in that hidden cemetery and at the Gandy Cemetery in Polk Co. 3. Friends and Cousins, Do the rest of you find this term 'hard to hear'? "Illegitimate" I do. I typed it earlier in a 'legal' sense. I know it was a legal term, but it sounds somehow ugly when talking about another human being. Maybe I'm just a sentimental fool. <grins> How do y'all note the births of those who were born outside of marriage in your genealogy? Sharon

    3. Don't know the correct answer for that question. Some say it was a nick name some say it was just a typo................I keep checking the back of the new books as they come out to see if a correction was ever found or made................so far nothing different on this! What I do a lots of times is this, depending on the timeframe that is. I take what I see. Then I try and find it on the census myself! With my own eyes. OR in some other document if it gets back into the "Talley folks" That is what I call the US Censuses where a lot of folks were just a little talley mark..............................they did not count as a human just a little talley was all........................lol I got a bunch of good stuff from Mr. Moody. But am still trying to weed through it all............................ I am trying to find out if the John Lee brother to Sarah Leigh {sic} Is the same John Lee as in John Lee or Ware Co. GA or not! If that John Lee is the same as the John Lee who had the Sister Sarah Leigh.....................then Mr. Moody has stuff that can help a lot of us on this list! 3. Bill, I have absolutely nothing on the DAVIS family. I would love anything you might share on this grandmother's family. Sharon Obediah O'Steen was the son of William O'Steen, R. S. and Elizabeth Davis. I believe Elizabeth to be the sister of my Samuel Davis. His line includes a good portion of the Davis families in the St Marys bend area. Bill

    3. I went to school with a bunch of O'Steen's their parents were said to have moved to Florida from GA. Their parents sold fishing bait and the father was also a local farmer grew vegetables and such....................................... As the boys grew up and got old enough they got part time jobs. A couple of them worked at the local supermarket which had a butcher shop on site. One of the boys learned to be a butcher right there in that store from the man who owned the store. But I could not tell you for the life of me who the parents of these kids were now! I use to know them all so well but they are now long gone. 3. Thank you Gail, thet's just what I needed. Funny thing . . . the sudden activity of the group . . . I've kinda taken a hiatus from intense research, just reading subject lines, filing emails in my folders to look at later, following up on only the highest priority primary lines . . . then, pretty much out of the blue, I ran across my deceased husband's uncle (also deceased, naturally!), who I have been seeking for quite a while. It was on a birth-parent search site. It seems that the grandaughter of this man had taken it upon herself to find her father's birth-parents . . . my husbands uncle was this man's adopted father . . . follow me so far? So, I emailed her, re-introduced myself to that branch of the family (hubby's been gone for 12 years!), and she gave me some info on her grandfather . . . His name was Bill Culbreath, and he was a Judge in Miami-Dade Co., FL. I was always under the impression that he was William Culbreath, could never find a trace. Then she tells me that he was WINFRED Culbreath! One search on World Connect and BINGO, where do I find him? In the JOHNS family database!! Now, I know I have JOHNS in my OWN family tree, so I've been filing all the messages on the Ware site to look at later . . . How weird is this? My husbands uncle is buried in my own family tree! Actually, I have come to the conclusion that in the South, go back far enough and we're all inter-related! I found that to be true in my own paternal grandparents . . . One from Barbour Co., AL, one from Wayne Co., GA . . . they crossed about 5 generations back in Alabama! So anyway, Just wanted to share that useless bit of info/story with the group, and add to the awesome activity of the group that I now have to filter to keep my inbox clear! 3. Obediah O'Steen was the son of William O'Steen, R. S. and Elizabeth Davis. I believe Elizabeth to be the sister of my Samuel Davis. His line includes a good portion of the Davis families in the St Marys bend area. Johns (1849-1881) m. Temperance Rowell (1863-1949) with 3 children, but they can't be for I have them born after the death date of Silas. Emma b. 1884, Kizzie Matilda b. 1886, Rufus b. 1890. Please help me. 1. Re: GAWARE-D Digest V05 #182
    2. There are a number of the MIMS lines that connect. ~~~~~~~~ I'm sorry Sharon, as much as I would like to make another family connection with you, none of these names look familiar. The Mims I am speaking of (and their collateral lines) stayed around Apppling, Jeff Davis and Bacon counties. Can anyone give directions to the Mims church in Norhtern Bacon County?? And, is there a cemetery??? I'm willing to go survey the cemetery (and I live in Callahan, FL) and post it on the Bacon County, GA AHGP web page if someone can tell me how to get there.
