Sheila, Thank you very much for sharing what you have on OSTEEN. I am anxious to look thru it. I see at a quick glance some different names for a couple of spouses. ie: Thomas OSTEEN b. abt 1725 [m.RACHEL PRITCHARD] I have Sarah HODGE as his wife, don't know where I got this. I thought the late Judy ROBERTS had sent much of the OSTEEN data I have, her husband Jim was an OSTEEN descendant. I thought surely I'd have added that note to my files, but haven't found it yet. It is some of my transcribbling no doubt. Sharon
I am wondering if anyone has info on a Iva Lee, I have no dates on this person? Thinking might show up somewhere. Lorraine, I would be happy to 'walk you through'...... When I have FTM 10 opened and I want to create a text file of a particular family, and depending on how many generations I want to include, this is what I do: 1. Click on Genealogy Report (count over 10 from top left including the arrow), it will transform your database into a word document, so to speak, to view, once there, you can click on Content to determine how many generations you want to show in the text family file by clicking on # of generations to show and then use the up and down arrow to show the #, you can also click on Options and determine if you want any notes, etc. to be included in this text file. 2. Once you have decided on how you want the Genealogy Report to look, click on File, and click on Export to PDF/Txt/Rtf and the 'save to' box will open up and you decide what file you want it saved to, and what format, PDF(acrobat), Text, or Formatted Text, then click on Save and it is saved in the format you want in the file fold you want. Sometimes I like to save in PDF and then later change it to a text file..........I can option to omit, delete, add to the text file if necessary, but I rarely do that. I hope this wasn't confusing and I hope it was a help. If I can be of further help you can email me off list if you like and I will be happy to help you any way I can with FTM. Sheila Lorraine Silvey <ladytar1@hotmail.com> wrote: Teresa, I use FTM 10 and I have found it to be of great help. I also finally merged my families together. I agree with Sheila that it is much easier that way. Sheila, I am not very "intelligent" on FTM and continue to learn. I have not yet learned to convert gedoms to Word yet....can you help on that? Any info will be appreciated. I think this is very appropriate for the list. Question: I wonder how ya'll keep your files. Do you have each family in a separate file, or do you have just one big file? The reason I've never merged them together is because if I share a GED Com file, it would include too many other families of no interest and probably be too large to email. ~~~~~~~~~~ Teresa I use FTM 11.0, and I keep all my info in one large file. I started out with seperate files, but soon found a lot of the same people in several files, so, decided to merge them into one. It is great fun seeing how closely knit the families of SE Georgia are. (I share many common ancestors with my husband.) You can easily e-mail genealogy reports of as many generations as you want. BUT, I highly recommend you make a back-up copy of each file BEFORE you merge anything. You may end up with several 'duplicate individuals' but that can easily be fixed too. I am a member of the rootsweb FTM list and you may want to subscribe to it and post your question about merging files there for advice. FTM-L@ROOTSWEB.COM Sherry

Teresa, I use FTM 10 and I have found it to be of great help. Any assistance or encouragement on ways to maintain our files has to do with Genealogy and can make it easier for our "neighbors". >From: Rd C <raindancer1961@yahoo.com> >Reply-To: GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com >To: GAWARE-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [GAWARE] Genealogy Question >Date: Thu, 3 Nov 2005 18:34:04 -0800 (PST) > >Teresa, >I use FTM 10 and love it. Sharon & Teresa, I have gathered bits and pieces of O'Steen back to about ca. 1685, but I can't vouch for the accuracy of all of it after William Yew (RS) O'Steen backwards (his father, his grandfather, etc.)but at least it is a check and balance point for names, etc. I am on my old computer tonight, but I will be back on my new computer tomorrow and I will put the O'Steen file in the email to you both.
