Hi Momma Walton - Just wanted to fill you in on the goals of "Georgia Settlers." > I received the neatest little booklet yesterday "Georgia Settlers" by > the East GA Genealogy Society. This is a very informative publication > involving several of our "Gen-Kids" & several GA counties, which I > intend to order before long. Maybe Jim or Faye could fill us in on > this, especialy since I'm going to have to get offline again. Good job > "Kids"!!! First, the East GA Gen. Soc. covers 28 counties: Banks, Barrow, Butts, Clarke, Columbia, Elbertr, Franklin, Glascock, Greene, Gwinnett, Hancock, Hart, Jackson, Jasper, Lincoln, Madison, McDuffie, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rockdale, Stephens, Taliaferro, Walton, Warren & Wilkes. Our goal is to have abstracts of various county records in each issue & try to cover something from each of the counties, or rotate around until all the counties are included. This is what was included in the first issue: Announcements Article by Mr. Walton Cox on "Walton Co. Cemetery Locator Project." Columbia Co. - 12 months support, 1858-1898 Glascock Co. Marriage Book A (will continue on thru Book B) Madison Co. - Poor School Fund, 1828-39 (also continued in May issue) Walton Co. - Wills & Estate Records A, 1819-1827 (abstracts of records will be continued in the next 4 issues, or however many it takes) Family Tree - Descendants of Matthew Patton (5 generations of the Patton family) Queries, etc. This publication is 8-1/2 x 11" and each quarter will have about 30 typed pages of material. Membership cost is very reasonable ($10 for individuals) and includes the quarterly. Forms are located at the EGGS web site: www.rootsweb.com/~gaeggs/ BTW, Mr. Walter Cox will be the speaker at our next EGGS meeting in Winder on Tuesday, March 14, at 7:00PM, speaking on the Walton Co. Cemetery Locator Project. We're all looking forward to hearing about this project first hand! This next meeting will be held at Matthews Cafeteria in Winder, and a lot of us will get there prior to 7:00 and enjoy some of their excellent Southern style cooking. We invite any of you on the Walton Rootsweb list to join us, if you're in the area. EGGS has just barely finished the book "Barrow County Georgia Cemeteries" and it is now at the printers - expected to be shipped March 23rd. Its HB, 620 pages, full name index - an excellent reference! Cost until about the 1st of April is $35 + $3 S&H, and after that time increases to $40 + $3. (Order forms on the above web site.) Since we're on a roll here, and Walton is having the "disappearing cemeteries" problem, EGGS is now considering surveying the cemeteries in Walton Co., and starting on a new cemetery book for Walton Co. Of course, we need volunteers to help with the surveying!!! Anyone that can donate some hours and/or days to this project, please contact Jim Patton at this e-mail address: gaeggs@email.com Well ... if I've forgotten anything important, maybe Jim can put his two-bits in!
