    1. [GAWALTON] Mystery of Rebecca Jarrett

    3. Who likes a good mystery? For twenty years, ever since a book, Looking Back, has appeared... Rebecca Jarrett b. 1765 d. 1848, has been attached to Frederick 'Fadda' Jarrett (VA) as his daughter. Rebecca Jarrett married Richard Sappington... became parents of 13 children including Caleb Sappington...b. December 18, 1787. (They lived in Wilkes Co and Walton Co GA) Caleb married Martha Bankston an old GA family. WHO IS REBECCA JARRETT (alt. spelling Jarrot)? A new source... and a descendant of the Jarretts has a theory: "Frederick Jarrett had several children... one of whom was named Jesse. In 1780, Jesse married Rebecca Bell. In 1781, Jesse died not long after his son, James, by Rebecca was born. Frederick died in 1813-14 and named all of his children and grandchildren in his will... including James... and also left a negro named Lucy to his 'son-in-law', Richard Sappington. Rebecca was not named in the will." Both Rebecca Jarrett Sappington and Richard Sappington are the executors of the will... so they are surely on good terms! I do not know if Sappington children are named in the will, but it did not sound as though they were. Grandson, James Jarretts' genealogy does not mention any half brothers and sisters, nor does it mention a stepfather. Nor does it identify the genealogy of Rebecca Bell except to give her an earlier birth date than Rebecca Jarrett. It also says the death date and whereabouts of Rebecca Bell are 'unknown." It does not state who raised him following the death of his father. Rebecca Jarrett and Richard Sappington had 13 children... are there descendants that might help solve this mystery? There is a good case for either point of view... Thanks, Cynthia Forde The Rev. Cynthia Forde, D. Min. RR # 2 Box 155 Hempstead, Texas 77445
