Linda & others, I don't believe Bettie meant to omit listing the cemeteries labeled "black" in Walton County but, rather, was concerned that some might find the designation of cemeteries by race as offensive. My suggestion to her was that, in sum, it's fact of history that cemeteries were (and hereabouts still are) largely associated with whites and blacks, and designating them as such is helpful to the researcher so, hopefully, because of that no one will take undue offense. As we locate cemeteries in the county it is our intent to designate them in any and all ways that might be helpful to potential researchers. We will be consulting with the funeral home here which caters to the African American community to insure we do not miss any burial sites known to them. We also expect to have help in our searches from African Americans in the community.
