I am wondering if anyone has access to Census records - possibly 1860, 1870, 1880, and would be willing to look up something for me? In either of these years was there a place for the individual to enter where their parents were born?? We are trying to document more information on the parents of Melly Ellender Forrester Austin who married John Austin and lived Walton Co. If anyone has any information on the Forrester / Royal family living in Walton Co, I would appreciate hearing from you. Melly Ellender was d/o of Thomas Forrester and Elizabeth Royal Forrester. In 1850, Elizabeth was living with her daughter and husband John Austin. Melly Ellender has several siblings. Thank you, Laura
Danny - This is shown as "Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery", located at 1079 Bethlehem Ch. Road, Bethlehem, GA, and the graves are listed in BARROW CO., GA, CEMETERIES book by the East GA Genealogical Society, Winder, GA. (The book is ready to go to the printers, & will probably be mailed this week.) There is a Joseph Partain buried there (10 May 1846-6 Nov. 1906, m. Mrs. Lucy Hendrix in 1866). Don't see any Civil War references. Row 8-1/2, if that helps. Some of the graves in this cemetery show Confederate markings on the grave, but I'm sure there are many others that don't have markings. Hi all, This cemetery thingy is messing with my mind (what's left of it!!) How's about we kinda sorta start over with the project & go one cemetery at a time??? We can tell what we know about each one, etc. & maybe get more done on it????? Write me personally with your replies on this. Ya'll are doing a fantastic job with your psotings to the GenConnect Boards, etc. If you need me to change your address, make corrections to the postings, move your posting to another board, etc. let me know! Haven't we come a longggg way on our site? I receive at least one compliment a day, & most always try to give ya'll credit. Afterall, it WAS your ideas, input, etc. that's made it what it is!! Pat yourselves on the back! Then hug yourselves for me, from me, Love ya, Momma Walton <><
Danny, If you could give me a bit more specifics as to the suspect location I can check the best available USGS map of the area. If you don't have particulars about the cemetery, give me more about the radio station -- a radio tower should be on the map -- Is it south of Bethlehem? On a named road? Bethlehem is in Barrow County, not Walton. I'll ask some of the SCV members if they have a listing of the Confederates buried in Bethlehem, though, and let you know. Hi gang, Here's the tips for writing your queries. They are good ones! These tips also come in helpful for mail list queries, or personal queries. These are NOT my tips--they are by Keely's Korner on USGenWeb. Good luck, Momma Walton <>< 1. Carefully read the web site's instructions on how to fill out their query form. (If you don't follow the rules, your query may never get posted!) 2. Start your query with the surname, then given name. HINT: If the site instructions permit this, use ALL CAPS on every surname in your query. All caps make the names easier to spot by the reader! 3. Include all known facts such as... a. birth, marriage and death dates b. occupation c. city, county and state 4. Forget the long story!! "My grandparents traveled by train to Anytown, USA and thought the countryside so lovely they decided to stay but, had trouble when the wagon...". Are there exceptions? Only if the "story" is vital to the query! Let's look at an easy to follow query... DOE, John David born ca 1823, Anytown, MS. Occupation: blacksmith. Died 3 Jun 1889, Anytown, MS. Parents: DOE, William and Margaret (maiden name?). Known siblings: James and Elizabeth (may be others). Married 4 Aug1847 to JONES, Rebecca in Anytown, Great Co., MS . Children: Warren, Lee, Lisa and Jack. Any help would be appreciated and I will share information. Please email me at: username@server.com This query is concise, easy to read and provides excellent information. Your next job is to post the query, then sit back and wait. How long is the wait you ask? I've personally waited months before someone contacted me. Go figure! HINTS: a. Notify all query web sites if you change your email address. Trust me, the site owners will love you for this and any possible responses won't end up in the dead letter file!!! b. Bookmark the web site where you post a query c. Check your queries every few weeks and update if necessary WORDS OF WISDOM Do not include your snail mail address or telephone number in your query. Please remember, your query will be posted on the World Wide Web.
Hi all, Since we've been working on our cemetery project, I thought this might interest some of you out-of-staters! (& of course, Texans, too!) http://dallasnews.com/metro/18547_CEMETERY16.html I've got just about all of the cemetery info put online--1 or 2 pages left--maybe more. I've got several pages with surnames (5?, 6?), a page full of marriages, a couple of URLs, & I think another item or 2 for sale. I still need to double check the surname board to make sure you can get your inquiries ok. I've got all the surname board "marked", so check for me & make sure yours is marked if you have a query for that name. There's only 2?, 3? surnames (& those are the newest) that don't have a mail list, or GenConnect board. I've applied for those, too, so as soon as they come in, I'm reasonably sure a mail list will be started for those too. As far as our cemetery project for the site goes, I'd like to start it up again, in about a month or so. Don't let this stop you from sending info in for our site, though. This time, on the project, I'd like to go one cemetery at a time, maybe?? Maybe this way we can fill in with directions & other stuff??? Please check everything out for me, especially your info. I need some proofreaders on this--I think I'm going blind!! haha Darrell COOK, I need you to write me personally, ok? I've got some wrong info on you, & need to correct this. I've been trying to think up some treat for ya'll, since you've worked so hard, BUT haven't thought of anything. What would ya'll like to do? Much love, & more later, Momma Walton <><

Hi Walton Researchers, Thought you might be interested. Dot Sorrells Cox Free for ten days, starting today, on Ancestry.com >From todays Ancestry Daily News: GEORGIA CHEROKEE LAND LOTTERY, 1838 Of all the states, Georgia has the distinction of being the only one to distribute parcels of land by lottery. This database is a listing of persons allotted land in 1838 from what was considered "Cherokee Land." Located in the northeastern part of the state, over 18,500 parcels were distributed by lottery in that year. Each record of this collection contains the individual's name, residence, and county. Additionally, it provides the district and section number of the parcel of land. For researchers of early Georgian ancestors, this can be an enlightening database. Bibliography: Smith, James F.
