    1. [GAWALTON] CENSUS AGAIN
    2. Bettie Wood
    3. This just in >>>>Is this only for 1880-1920? > No, actually we'll do it for any year. We put up the table for 1880-1920 only because (1) the number of page numbers are easier to compute for those years, and (2) those are the largest years, and so probably they most need a group effort for them to get done. John ---- Any other questions we need answered?

    1. [GAWALTON] CENSUS--OOPS!
    2. Bettie Wood
    3. I can't believe I just did that!! haha Anyway, I just heard from John. This is what he said so far: >>>>The difference is: Group Rate: You (or someone) has to collect everyone's money and come up with the total amount that's due by the time the scanning gets done. So it requires a lot of time and effort on your part. Wait-List: Each person signs up on their own and commits their credit card information, which we don't use until we have the total number of people needed. So you don't have to organize efforts or collect money, but this method will probably be slower. Everyone who contributes $20 is entitled to a CD, but if some don't want it, we won't force them to take one. <grin> The rate will be the same, however, whether or not each contributor wants a CD or not.<<<<< When I asked about contributing under a group name like "Walton Co. Gen-Kids", he said: >>>>Sure that would be fine. We have several counties where the contributor is listed as something like "The Howard County Discussion List"<<< This is the URL, if you want to "study" this further. http://www.skpub.com/genie/censuscd/prices.html Please let me know what you think! I'm still heading in the direction of transcriptions AND images online! Remember your opinion counts!! Love ya, Momma Walton <><

    1. [GAWALTON] CENSUS CHAT
    2. Bettie Wood
    3. Hi all, I've been "chatting" with John Schunk, again, concerning the census images. There is a "plan" that I'm getting more info on, as I'm not sure I understand it. It looks like we can contribute $20 (no less), & when enough "purchasers" buy $20 worth, then they scan to a CD, & each purchaser gets a copy AND there's one contributed to USGenWeb to put online. Thing is, though, this only includes years 1880-1920. I'm not 100% sure of this yet.

    3. I prefer that the answers go TO the LIST. I did not request the Satterwhite marriages, but I was thrilled to see them. You never know when you might get some help from someone else's question. 2. Ray Beam
    3. I have completed the transcription of the 1870 Walton County Census and while I am fine tuning it prior to submission (in about 2 weeks), I will be more than happy to assist anyone with a look-up. BTW, if anyone has the CART (census abstract retrieval tool) program and want to volunteer to proofread this puppy, let me know. Thanks Ray Beam (Sacramento, Ca)

    1. Re: [GATROUP] Marriage Look-up
    2. This is only my humble opinion, but I thought that the point of the "list" is to share. You read other's posts and you might find a gem somewhere among the list, as well as asking questions yourself. You might feel differently had you found the name of someone who was requested to be the spouse of someone you have searched long and hard for. I have had several people email me and tell me that in these postings they have found someone unexpectedly. I'm sorry if we have cluttered your mail box and you are correct, your contact should have changed the subject line so that you have the opportunity to delete these messages if you so choose. I will do what everyone else chooses to do. If they want to keep it private, we can keep it private but it saddens me to think that in doing that we are defeating the entire purpose of the list. No hard feelings, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Happy Hunting, Cari ______________________________ - ----------------------------

    2. Sorry gang, I know I am going to catch alot of flack because of this....BUT could you take the request and answers to the request private. I am all for helping and do it myself, but this is getting out of hand....AND YES I DO DELETE and am. One of the main reasons for my request is as follows. On another list, someone wrote me an email, but used the heading from another email that had nothing to do with his subject. I saw it with all the other BS and deleted it. His fault for not changing the subject line, but he didnt and I missed a valueable email. Sorry this is my two cents worth. Thanks for listening and dont get to mad and fill up the list with remarks to me....send them PRIVATE, I have big shoulders.... :-) ______________________________ - ----------------------------

    3. Thank you so much for doing this! I know the marriage book seems to indicate that James M. Hollis married Clara Satterwhite, but her name was actually Sarah. My grandmother, Leta Hollis Barber, knew the name of her grandmother, Sarah Satterwhite Hollis. David Morgan On Thu, 3 Feb 2000 Cari75@aol.com wrote: > HARRIS CO. > COLLINS, John G. marr.
