Hi all, A quicknote before the storms move in again--I may be online tonight, or may not. Depends on the weather. Are your messages coming through to the list? If you don't see a message you've sent, then let me know. For our newest kids, the address is: GAWALTON-L@rootsweb.com for the whole list to see. My address is nana321@txucom.net if you need to conatct me personally. I received $20 more dollars towards the census today. This means I've collected $310 towards this project. Since I mailed $128 for the 1860 census images, we have a total of $182 left, $60 coming in, & 2 unknown amounts coming too. How about the getting the 1900 census next???? Have you sent your monies yet? Have you made a pledge? We also need more transcribers, I have several volunteers already. I still have not recived my 1840 film, & the microfilm reader I located was WAY too much for me. So I'll have to find another reader somewhere. I've written/called a few places, but no luck yet. Any ideas out there? Well, precious Kids--must close! Have a wonderful weekend, Love, Momma Walton <><
Does anyone out there have information on the following: Mary Jane Broach who married George Washington Malcom. He was the son of John and Nancy Hawk Malcom. From whom is she descended? Lucinda F. Broach who married Elonza Hawk. He was the son of Thurmon and Mary Malcom Hawk. From whom is she descended? Luticia S Broach who married George T Malcom. He was the son of James M and Joanna Malcom. From whom is she descended? Anna Z Broach who married George M Peters. From whom is she descended? Thanks so much for any help that you can offer....Sandi
Thelma, I am interested in your GUNTER line. You are the first to post in Walton Co. on this surname since I subscribed to this list. I am not positive that my Gunter line connects with yours, but it is a possibility. I have info from another source which places my Gunter line in Walton Co. for a period of time. Some of the first names associated with my Gunters during the time they were to have been in Walton Co. are Isham (which you mentioned), John M. and James. Do you know if your Gunters came from NC prior to GA? There is another line of Gunter's from SC to GA. They may connect somehow, but so far I haven't connected them and my line originates from NC as far back as I've managed to get. Any insight or info appreciated. Hi Kids, Not much news tonight--I'm so pooped! I do have BIG news though! We have collected $290--have additional $60 on the way, & 3 unknown amounts coming too! I mailed $128 for the 1860 census images, & that'll be about 2 months away. I believe that leaves us with $162 for the next census purchase?? This project is coming along nicely--images AND transcriptions! I so appreciate all the hard work!!!! I'm just dragging tonight, so will close! I'm also so homesick...PA Walter told the sweetest story---maybe he'll share?? & give ya'll a nostalgic glow too! Please PA??? Love ya'll much...yawn Momma Walton <>< To all of you, especially Tonya. Please pray for her--she's having an extra hard time! I asked the Lord to bless you As I prayed for you today To guide you and protect you As you go along your way.... His love is always with you His promises are true, And when we give Him all our cares You know He will see us through So when the road you're traveling on Seems difficult at best Just remember I'm here praying And God will do the rest.

Henry D Knight married Nancy Brown in Walton County Georgia. Does any one know which Knight family this Henry D belonged to? Thanks, Thelma K Shields shields@eufaula.lib.ok.us
My cousin and I are working our family line of Gunter together and have run into a big question. Chloe Gunter is listed in the 1850 census with her four children and no spouse. Because of the name pattern and the location we feel that she is related to Isham Gunter, Sr. but we do not know how. Was she married to his son Francis? Or Isham??? Is there any one on the mail list working this line? Or can anyone help us? Thanks Thelma K Shields shields@eufaula.lib.ok.us
Hi Ray, & all, You have perfect timing!!! I've just uploaded this, & a few other items I updated over the weekend. Take a look & send me your updates & corrections, ok? http://www.rootsweb.com/~gawalton/ Also, I just made out our check for the 1860 census images (leaving us $82 towards the next one), which will be mailed tomorrow. John at S-K publications will let me know when the check gets there, & I'll let ya'll know! I can hardly wait until we have both transcriptions & images online for all years!! Good work guys & gals AND Cowboy hats off to "Gen-Kids" Ross JONES (1830), & Ray BEAM (1870) for all your hard work in transcribing these census. You're a big help to us! Has anyone else got a census transcription going? How about we get Ross & Ray to take us through the process (baby steps) of what it takes & what one needs to do to transcribe a census? How about it fellas???? I know there's others for other counties--let's hear from you too. Have a precious week Love-- Momma Walton <>< > http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwcens/help/ceninventory.html > > Sorry gang, must have copied something wrong. Who likes a good mystery? For twenty years, ever since a book, Looking Back, has appeared... Rebecca Jarrett b. 1765 d. 1848, has been attached to Frederick 'Fadda' Jarrett (VA) as his daughter. Rebecca Jarrett married Richard Sappington... became parents of 13 children including Caleb Sappington...b. December 18, 1787. (They lived in Wilkes Co and Walton Co GA) Caleb married Martha Bankston an old GA family. WHO IS REBECCA JARRETT (alt. spelling Jarrot)? A new source... and a descendant of the Jarretts has a theory: "Frederick Jarrett had several children... one of whom was named Jesse. In 1780, Jesse married Rebecca Bell. In 1781, Jesse died not long after his son, James, by Rebecca was born. Frederick died in 1813-14 and named all of his children and grandchildren in his will... including James... and also left a negro named Lucy to his 'son-in-law', Richard Sappington. Rebecca was not named in the will." Both Rebecca Jarrett Sappington and Richard Sappington are the executors of the will... so they are surely on good terms! I do not know if Sappington children are named in the will, but it did not sound as though they were. Grandson, James Jarretts' genealogy does not mention any half brothers and sisters, nor does it mention a stepfather. Nor does it identify the genealogy of Rebecca Bell except to give her an earlier birth date than Rebecca Jarrett. It also says the death date and whereabouts of Rebecca Bell are 'unknown." It does not state who raised him following the death of his father. Rebecca Jarrett and Richard Sappington had 13 children... are there descendants that might help solve this mystery? There is a good case for either point of view... Thanks, Cynthia Forde The Rev. Cynthia Forde, D. Min. RR # 2 Box 155 Hempstead, Texas 77445

My wife thinks I'm a little nuts (maybe more than that), but I hate daytime TV and if gives me something to occupy my retirement and not interfere in her activities. The use of CART I think makes the first census a little easier than using Excel if you do not have much experience with a spreadsheet program (like me). But with practice and a lot of help from my son-in-law I have mastered it as far as using it for the census transcription. I guess the first thing to understand is that the 1860 census usually runs between 6000 and 7000 entries. It does take a while and can't be done in a day. Work on it an hour or two each day, say 5 or 6 census pages. Pick a time when you won't have many interruptions. That is when you make the least errors. And you will have errors, trust me. The proofreading is as important as the transcribing and volunteers will be needed. My suggestion is to make it a group project. When you complete 50 census pages email the transcription or a printout to a proofreader. Send the second 50 page to another person, etc. That way you don't burn out one person and more people gets to play a part in the project. Ross Jones --part1_7c.1d14ef9.25dcaa27_boundary--

Hi all, I recieved $45 more dollars today towards our census. We now have a total of $210, with $90 more supposed to be coming in (have you mailed yours?), plus 5 folks are sending an undetermined amount of $. I will order the 1860 census tomorrow, if there's no objections??? To our newbies, I can explain the census project further, if you write me. Those I've already written to, please ask more questions, if need be. Bob (my Valentine) & I started indexing the 1820 & 1860 census last night. We'll have most the day tomorrow to do some more. More later, with love, Momma Walton <>< Sorry this is 'testy" & short today--Lindsey is being a "bug"--wants to play her Blue's Clues!!! haha
This morning my aunt told me that she was told as a child that the Glenn Miller of orchestra fame was a cousin... does anyone know where his genealogy might be posted...? The Rev. Cynthia Forde, D. Min. RR # 2 Box 155 Hempstead, Texas 77445
I am new to this list and have been "lurking" for awhile. Now I'm hoping that someone out there can help me with my search. I am half Yankee and half Confederate and grew up on the Yankee side of the border. I am descended from the Malcom's of Walton Co and have several unlinked individuals in that line. If there is anyone who has information on this line, dating back to James and Sally Gannaway Malcom, please e-mail me. There are several in the Archibald Preston Malcom line whom I haven't been able to connect. Thanks so much! Sandi
sounds good mama walton..i'll send another 5.00 on the 1st..deposit has my vote!
