    1. [GAWALTON] Walton Co., Georgia GRIFFINS go to Texas about 1884-6
    2. Before my Dad died in 1978 he wrote a detailed life history (what a treasure). Both his father and grandfather were born in Walton County, Georgia. His grandfather was Joseph Thomas GRIFFIN, born in 1853, who married Sarah Martha CLEGG in Walton Co. His father was Walker Clarence GRIFFIN, born in 1879. In his history Daddy wrote that his father told him that his first memory was being on a large wagon train going to Lamar County, Texas, where a brother of Joseph Thomas lived ( William K. GRIFFIN). Since my grandfather was born in 1879, I place this trip about 1884-6. I don't have any information about where this wagon train originated, or the final destination. I hope this information is helpful to someone. Alta Griffin Thorpe Sun City, CA

    3. Hi all, Yea to me--I finally finished my file sorting!! Tomorrow I can go through & answer my emails, & print what I need, AND hopefully I can update our web site this weekend. I'm making no promises this time, so maybe I'll get it done!! haha For those that need my snail mail address for sending census monies:--send lots! Bettie Wood (that's my alias!!) 46 Chapparral Tatum, TX 75691 Please don't send cash or "bouncy paper", & include your email address, so I can notify you when I receive your donations. Does anyone have any questions about our census project? Questions about our surname project? I have another neat idea for our web site, BUT don't know if I can work it all out up there where my natural highlights (gray hairs) grow! It involves a lot of work on my part, BUT it would probably help alot for all our surname listers. Hmmm....What could this be? What will it lead to???? Gotta go--much to do Love by the buckets--just for ya'll Momma Walton <>< PS Laughter---noun--Wine for the soul!

    2. --part1_bb.154b1f0.25ee8234_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit There once was a rich man who was near death. He was very grieved because he had worked so hard for his money and he wanted to be able to take it with him to heaven. So he began to pray that he might be able to take some of his wealth with him. An angel heard his plea and appeared to him. "Sorry, but you can't take your wealth with you." The man begged the angel to speak to God to see if He might bend the rules. The man continued to pray that his wealth could follow him. The angel reappeared and informed the man that God had decided to allow him to take one suitcase with him. Overjoyed, the man gathered his largest suitcase and filled it with pure gold bars and placed it beside his bed. Soon afterward he died and showed up at the Gates of Heaven to greet St. Peter. St. Peter, seeing the suitcase, said, "Hold on, you can't bring that in here!" The man explained to St. Peter that he had permission and asked him to verify his story with the Lord. Sure enough, St. Peter checked, came back and said, "You're right. You are allowed one carry-on bag, but I'm supposed to check its contents before letting it through." 1. [GAWALTON] UPDATES???
    2. Bettie Wood
    3. Hi all, Tomorrow is March 1st, & the day we're supposed to start our surname project. Due to a recent illness--mine, I need to postpone this for another week. I prefer to start March 7th, since Monday is my favorite (& only)grandchild's 5th birthday! Ok? Our first surname will be AUSTIN/AUSTEN, so if you have any info of any kind on this surname, please prepare to submit it to the list (GAWALTON-L@rootsweb.com) on Monday, March 7th. All our AUSTIN researchers need to submit what you know, want to know, & any other info pertaining to your surname. Also, if you have not submitted your surnames for our "Surnames of Interest" section on our web page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gawalton/ please do so. If you have any questions on this project, feel to ask me or the list! We have collected another $8 towards our census project. This means we now have $190 for our next census purchase! Good job!!!!!! Some of the pledges have not been donated yet, so if you haven't made yours, please do so. Any of our newer "Gen-kids" have any questions, ask, ask, ask! I got word today that USGENWEB is being mailed the 1820 census images tomorrow--I"M SOOOO EXCITED!!!!! Also, anyone that has a microfilm reader, where did you get yours??? I still haven't found one that's reasonable enough, so am looking for any & all ideas! More later, love ya'll, Momma Walton <>< I call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me. Psalms 120:1

    1. [GAWALTON] EGGS & Barrow Co. Cemetery Book
    2. Patrica Freeman Hardin
    3. As a member of EGGS (East Georgia Genealogical Society) I would like to add a little information to Faye's comments about the Barrow County Cemetery Book now at the printers. Barrow County was formed in 1914 from the counties of Walton, Jackson and Gwinnett so if you are looking for a cemetery that was in one of these counties, then it may possibly be included in the new book. See Faye's message below for information on how to order a book. We welcome any of you far and near to join our group. We have a great group of people, good programs and have a wonderful time as well as an outstanding Quarterly. I live near Charlotte, NC but attend most of the monthly EGGS meetings which are a three hour drive for me. (I also get a chance to visit family and get in some genealogy research.) See Faye's message below for information on how to join EGGS. I have spent countless hours pouring over books, research materials, and military documents. I've read the history of the AirForce. I have purchased books describing uniforms, and unit information. All of this just to describe to my descendants what it was like during different wars. But what is most forgotten is the men that served in these wars. Living or dead, they paid you with their time, their lives, their families happiness. They stood up and defended a belief that we should be a nation of our own. The fought against eachother in a war so bloody, that it left a nation divided even to this day. They cried out against the attrocities commited against Cuban's and then went to defend them. They went over the seas to protect the United States in not one but Two World Wars. Since then they have defended not only our own nation, but that of others. Many of these men are still alive today. They may be in the home next to yours, or your Grandfather. They may sit down with the children in your villiage and talk to them about the old days. They are your friends, companions, or an acquaintance, who enlisted and served in times of peace and in times of war. They left friends and family behind and dedicated themselves to the ideal of peace. At a great personal cost, why not take a few moments to thank them for it? Below is a URL to register your Serviceman. http://www.usgennet.org/~vregistr/index.html Hugs Wendy --WebTV-Mail-3684-6634--

We have had some boogar storms here, so I unplug this lil jewel when those are around. We've also had some power outages before the storms hit?? I went ahead & left my pc off for awhile, so it didn't get hurt. When I finally got this thing on again, I found an urgent message from our Gen-Sis Dorothy HUNT saying she was on the way to the hospital--a baby (grandchild????) was born, & was very small & sick. She has requested prayer for the baby, so I'm sure you all would want to know & will lift her up (& baby) in your precious prayers. I'll keep you updated, if I can. I have received $20 more towards our census porject, & I believe this gives us $182 for the next census image puchase. I don't have the figures before me. Have you mailed your pledge yet? I received the neatest little booklet yesterday "Georgia Settlers" by the East GA Genealogy Society. This is a very informative publication involving several of our "Gen-Kids" & several GA counties, which I intend to order before long. Maybe Jim or Faye could fill us in on this, especialy since I'm going to have to get offline again. Good job "Kids"!!! I, of course, haven't gotten anything uploaded, since I haven't been able to turn my pc on, & work on our pages. I'm almost done with my file "cleaning", though. That's progress!! Remember, our surname project is coming up March 1st! Do I have your surnames of interest listed on our web page? Did you know we have had over 2000 visits to our site? I was quite shocked when I looked at it this afternoon!! Gotta go--Love ya, & miss ya too! Momma Walton <><

    1. [GAWALTON] I'M IMPRESSED!

    3. Hi all, My ISP or something has been down (or I have) today. That's ok I've been playing!! hehe I'm impressed by our postal system. The check I wrote for the 1860 census is already in their hands, & they are aiming for a completion date of mid-April for the images to be online. How's that? I also received my 1840 census microfilm today, but haven't got a microfilmreader. Thanks to some of you, I did find some online--brand new for $490. That's a great price, but still a little steep for me! I was hoping I could get one of the old ones from my local library, but don't know who to talk with??? So...if someone wants to transcribe a census, they would need to: 1) Decide which year they wanted to do, & then see if it's been assigned. If not, sign up for it. 2) Gather all their materials, rent/purchase film, etc. Right? 3) Then they would...??? Ya'll help & fill in the blanks, in baby steps please. Not where a child can understnad, BUT where I can understand, ok? haha Gotta go--early to bed, early to rise--will put me in Sunday School on time!! Love ya all, Momma Walton <>< PS Make sure your surnames are listed in "Surnames Of Interest" section: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gawalton/ cause the surname project is coming soon--about 10 days or so!!!
