migration appears to have followed patterns even then. Like pretty people head for L.A.,painters to Paris,run-a-way teens to the big apple,& crooks to the border. then it was often due to relationship, religion, long family association, too. Search under "migration patterns of pioneers" on the web for a more scholarly answer. There have been many studies done on this over the years.
I am interested in this migration, too. I know that my ancestors, William JOHNS and Mary HIGHTOWER JOHNS (Thomas' sister I believe) went to Randolph Co AL around 1838. I have wondered why. Does anyone know about the updated Cemetery Listing for Walton County. It is my understanding that the Walton County Historical Society was working on an updated List. Thanks Donnie East
Hello- I have been desperately trying to find my 3rd GGF who lived in Walton Co., GA. His name was Darius East. He last appeared on the 1880 Walton Co. Census and didn't appear on the 1900. Since there wasn't a 1890 Census, I assume he died within that 20 year period. However, I have been unsuccesful in locating his gravesite. His wife and my 2nd GGF are buried at the Walton Grove Cemetery. I have no reason to believ he would have left the area as the next 3 generations were all born and raised there. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Donnie East
Hello Mr. Jim Brown, W5DRP@aol.com >From what I have read on the Internet, these families and friends got together and traveled from place to place by wagon train. It was much safer than traveling alone. Very much like the old movies, we use to go see. My mom was stupid! That's what I thought as a teenager, anyway. It's funny how, in life, our attitudes change towards our parents all along the way! When I was a little girl, I thought Mom was just about the most beautiful woman ever, & the last time I saw her, she was indeed still an attractive woman. As a teenager, I usually thought Mom was so ignorant. Even when I got married, I thought my mom-in-law was pretty ignorant too! As a parent, both suddenly got some smarts!! Even now, getting older, they both have gotten lost smarter! Amazing, isn't it? I was given up for adoption, by my biological parents, when I was 3. I lived & grew up with a family that had 3 natural born sons. I'm not sure I ever found my nitch in their home, but I always had a happy heart! After marriage, moving away from home, having my own children, & my parents divorcing, my mom & I drifted apart. I have not seen her since AUG 1991, & at her request, we have not written/spoken to each other since FEB 1992. I became the "Black Sheep" of the family when I still "associated" with my dad & his wife, after Mom & Dad divorced. I did have a "solid" example of a mom, though, in my wonderful grandmother. My mom's mom! All through my life, I considered her to be the most beautiful woman (still do), that I've ever known, inside & out! She was who/where I first heard about the Lord, as she & grandpa had a tremendous love for our wonderful Creator. She was the perfect woman! She never spoke poorly of anyone. Never did I hear any bad words come from her mouth--she would not even say helicopter because she would have to say that "H_ _ _ " word first! Many nights, when I stayed with her, I would hear her praying, well into the night. It would, most times, lull me to sleep, thinking when I get that old, I would do that too. She loved & respected the Lord so much, she actually knelt on those precious knees, always, to pray: So hurt, & bent, so tired, so weary, it did not matter. So many nights, too, she kept me up, terrified for my life, thinking there was a bear in the house. It was only her snoring, & I lived to hear her snore, many more times! I have precious memories of her, & some of her daughter that raised me, too. I know that someday things will be ok between my mom & I, because my dear grandma taught me to ALWAYS pray! Love to you all this Mother's Day! Momma Walton <>< For Backward ABC roll call: Mom spelled backwards is still MOM!

Hi gang! Here it is K-day of our backward ABC roll call, already. We should be finished by the 19th--according to my calculations? If you need to catch up, that's ok--just as long as you get your info posted! Since Mother's Day is coming up, I thought ya'll might like to tell us about your Mom, your Mother's Day traditions, or something about a special Mother's Day you've had/shared, or anything that pertains to Mother's Day. If so, go ahead & post those, too. I'll be doing one in a bit, if time (& Lindsey) allows. Have the best day you can! Love, Momma Walton <><
I find it really interesting that I've seen several instances of Walton Co. families moving to Randolph Co. AL or Talapoosa Co. AL. My family (KITTLEY) did as well. Is there a sensible reason for this? Or are these families related somehow? William SOUTH married Elizabeth MAIN (MAYNE) according to license and newspaper announcement. Another person says it was Elizabeth MEANS because son was named James Means South. Does anyone have any information on either of these three lines that would aid me in sorting them out? Jackie
PRICE. William PRICE married Elizabeth JONES in Walton County, GA, 1835. Could his sisters have been Elizabeth PRICE (who married Orsemus THOMASON in Walton, 1835) and Mary PRICE (who married Squire THOMASON in Walton, 1839)? They may be the children of George PRICE and Tabitha AYCOCK who married in Oglethorpe Co, GA, 1807... William & Elizabeth PRICE left Walton County between 1840-1849 and lived in Randolph County, AL in 1850 until their death. I would love to find others interested in these people. Thanks! bevkey03@bellsouth.net
