    1. WOODS family which lived in Walker County in Mid 1800s
    2. Robin Woods
    3. Hi, Lucy, Thanks for answering my email. I'm sorry we didn't find a WOODS kinship. Just in case some link might be found in the future, I thought I'd send a brief lineage, which is below. If you ever see a link, please get in touch with me again. I've been searching more than 30 years but have had a long time brick wall with finding parents of my Great-Grandfather James WOODS or his wife. It's difficult to document WOODS which is such a common surname and has so many unrelated lines. WOODS is often recorded as WOOD without the final "S" --- which is not unusual --- So I research both. Lots of luck with your family search, and thanks again for your reply. Grandmother Robin My very brief WOODS lineage --- My Grandmother was Nancy Caroline WOODS (b 1858 Cobb County, GA; died 1927 in Fort Smith, ARK; married Martin Fralix FREEMAN and had 4 sons and 3 daughters). Her siblings were Robert Jackson WOODS (1856-1886, wife: Zany McDANIEL), Anderson Richmond WOODS (1861-1889 m Mattie HAGGARD), and Virginia Lee "Jennie" WOODS (1867-1959. She married John "Tom" EDWARDS) All migrated to Arkansas except Robert Jackson who remained in Walker County. Nancy's parents were Nathan Richmond WOODS and Susan ABERCROMBIE. Nathan was born on 22 Sept 1833 in South Carolina, living in Anderson County with parents Rachael (presumed HAWKINS) and James WOODS (who were in Laurens County, SC, earlier). Nathan migrated to Georgia where Nancy Carolina WOODS was born; he was a Confederate Soldier, and moved in 1880s to ARK with 3 of his 4 children and all their Georgia-born families. He died in 1923 at Fort Smith, ARK. Nathan had known siblings - all children of Rachael and James WOODS: 1)Sarah WOODS (1820-1911) who married Benjamin Franklin GARRETT; 2)Elvira WOODS (1821-1903) who married Melvin RIDDLE; 3)James WOODS (possibly a son - b abt 1824) who had wife Sarah and daughter Martha; 4)Robert WOODS (b abt 1825); his wife was Julian (her surname not known); 5)Susan WOODS (b abt 1829 but no other information); 6)Nathan Richmond WOODS who is my Great Grandfather and for whom I have many descendants; 7) Elizabeth WOODS (b abt 1834) who lived with parents until they died and then went to live with a nephew John M. RIDDLE; and 8) William James WOODS who married Elma Jane FREEMAN, my Grandfather's sister. William James was a Confederate Soldier and also migrated his family to ARK. [Note: all the descendants of Nathan Richmond WOODS and William James WOODS. including me, are double cousins. My "Brick Wall" has been finding the parents of James WOODS and his wife, Rachael, who has been assumed to be a HAWKINS because that surname in on the Arkansas death certificate of a son almost 60 years after Rachael herself died in South Carolina. So it is open to question, especially since it has never been found any where else. HOLCOMB is another surname considered a possibility for Rachael but with not a shred of documented evidence for it at all. HAWKINS has been reluctantly accepted with that one document. > -----Original Message----- > From: S. C.
