    1. [GAWALKER] Whites plus Catoosa County 'Quickie' Marriages

    3. Freddie - I can't locate those names in my family anywhere except for a Mary Jane White. She was the dtr of Will WHITE and Susan WINNINGHAM, and was born in Overton County, TN around 1870. My husband's family from the Walker County area descend from E.E. White (I think he is one of those at the Antioch Cemetery too!) who married Adaline EVITT/EVATT, and then through their son John Ruffin WHITE who married Mollie BELL. I am sorry I can't help you any further. I would like to also add something about Catoosa County. It is just across the state line from Chattanooga, TN. It has been known for years as the place to go get married in a hurry. We have friends from Nashville, TN, some from around Lexington, KY and several from Alabama who went down there just to get married. Sort of like a southern Las Vegas, without the romance. You could get the blood test across the street from the courthouse and walk across the street and get married, all in about an hour, and all for about $10.00. I don't know how long this 'quickie wedding stuff' has been going on though. Our friends marriages go back into the 1940's. I think the age was lower in Georgia also. Our friends in Nashville skipped school on Monday, caught the Greyhound bus to Ringgold, and got back in time to catch the school bus home. They didn't tell anyone for months! Just thought I would share that. Bonnie >
