I just happen to have an article that came with another story I had copied from the Chatt.TIMES paper,Nov.4,1953. It tells about Tri-County Hospital. TRI-CITY HOSPITAL DEDICATION SUNDAY. Gov.Talmadge Will Preside at Ft.Oglethorpe Opening of $2,000,000 Facility. Fort Oglethorpe,Ga.Nov.3.-Plans are being made for the dedication of the Tri-County Hospital at Fort Oglethorpe,by Gov.Herman Talmadge on Sunday afternoon,Nov.8. The hospital will serve Walker,Dade and Catoosa counties and will be the first hospital in the country to be supported by three counties. The hospital has been built on the site of the old army hospital at Fort Oglethorpe on land donated by the Federal government. Opening of the new hospital will end six years of work and planning by officials of the three counties. The cost of the hospital, which is modern, fireproof and fully equipped,is around two million dollars. The Fedral and State governments have agreed to pay around one-third of the cost each of the hospital and the remainder of the money has been raised by revenue certificates and public subscriptions. Oscar Hilliard,of Ft.Oglethorpe,is administrator of the hospital. The hospital will be staffed by doctors of the Tri- County Medical Association, and also served by doctors and specialists in many other fields pledged by the Chattanooga and Hamillton County Medical Association. Fort Oglethorpe, formerly a widely known military post,is now a thriving municipality which lies partly in Walker and partly in Catoosa county. Its close proximity to Chattanooga is an asset to the hospital. An indigent fund is being prepared by the three counties to take care of charity cases.
