Bonnie where can i get this book vol 1 from Shirley . think this is my line of Cothrans. thanks, Janet
Janet Shirley lived in Chattanooga during the late 1980's and her books and Cherokee newsletters all dealt with Cherokee genealogy. She did a lot of local research at the Chattanooga Bicentennial Library. I saw the book on http://www.abebooks.com under her name as author recently but it was $48.00!! You might be able to get it on interlibrary loan. Shirley sold the books herself. She was a wonderful source for my own genealogy. I have been unable to find her since she left Chattanooga. If you live near a good library, you might be able to look at the applications. Each is numbered and it looks like the Martin descendents were among the first processed. Shirley's book shows that Application # 126 Anna R. Cothran; #127 Alice R. Cothran; #128 Stephen C. Rowland; #129 Martha Garnish; #545; #585; #632; #672; and #1032 filed as Joseph's descendents. I do not know the names of the last few of these people who claimed to be descendents of this Joseph Martin, but they should be fairly easy to find. I looked at the alphabetical index for my great grandmother's name. It gave her name and her application number. The microfilm, with the copies of the actual application, was in numeric order. In my own case, my ancestors were rejected through the Court of Claims, but their applications were a genuine goldmine of family information spanning 4 generations!!! I will be gone on vacation beginning tomorrow night so may not contact anyone for a week or so. Don't know if I can retrieve my email where we are going or not. Good luck to all and God's blessings in abundance. Bonnie
