Could anyone share some information about William H. Campbell? I know he lived in Walker County and died about 1936. He was born on 28 May 1870 and married Florrie Rosena Parrish on 4 Dec 1886. I have tried getting his death certificate through Georgia, but they don't have anything. My next step is to send a request to Nashville in case he was taken to Erlanger before he died. This is my great grandfather. I appreciate any help you might have. Jon

Recording of death certificates prior to 1900 was relatively uncomon unless you were in the military. That is there was no central repository. They may have resided in the county but not at the state level. There are of course some exceptions in some of the more populous states of the North East but it just wasn't something that happened that frequently and that folks were that charged up about. There were mortality schedules that were sort of an offshoot of the census but not the regimented issue a death certificate and file it with a central authority that there is now. Even now there is not a lot of follow-up in tying death certificates to birth certificates or identity theft would be a much less common phenomenon than it is. Bill p.s. best documentation of death was typically from Local records, family bible, local newspaper, funeral home records, church records and probate of the will particularly if the person had land to be passed on to heirs. ----- Original Message ----- From: "jacs" <jacs@chartertn.net> To: <GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 21, 2004 4:58 PM Subject: [GAWALKER] William H.
