    1. RE: [GAWALKER] Fugatt - Walden Cemetery
    2. Ramona, I'm Sue Forrester and did the Walker County Cemetery survey here on Lookout Mountain. Is there anything I can help you with? These two cemeteries are not far apart. However, two things regarding the Walden-Fugate Cemetery... First, I'm not certain if the same people own the property who did when I did the survey and second, it is in far worse shape now than a few years ago. I pass it at least two/three times a week. It might be best to wait until cold weather when there is less foliage and NO snakes. This cemetery is very small and there are only four tombstones: Mary Fugate, 10 June 1858-9 July 1929 William (Bill) Walden [home made concrete marker, no dates] Mary Ella (infant), 26 Dec 1902 Baby Walden, Dau of Lee & Ira Walden [no dates] Mount Pleasant cemetery is south of Walden-Fugate cemetery by just a few miles (3 +/- miles maybe). It is large and is usually kept in good condition. When I passed by Saturday it looked good. My gr-grandfather's brother is buried here along with one of his nephews. I'm about 2 hours from LookOut Mountain. So those directions will get me there. From the intersection of Georgia Highways 136 and 157 travel north on 157 four and six-tenths (4.6) miles. The cemetery is on the right side if the highway. >From the intersection of Nick-A-Jack Road and 157 travel south in 157 >three and seven-tenths (3.7) miles. Look for the cemetery on the left, The Mount Pleasant Cemetery is perhaps one of the oldest cemeteries on Lookout Mountain in Walker County. It was deeded to Trustee's, E.C. Doyal, W.J. Green, Wm. Burrows, Wm. Stephens, Samuel Robertson, I.P. Moore, and Jacob Shaver., "In consideration of the love which he has for the Kingdom of Christ on Earth" by Martin Branham on the 27 August 1868. It was originally deeded for a house of worship to be built for the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. A church was built but has long since been destroyed. The grave markers in this cemetery were difficult to record as the graves are in no particular order or row. Many of the graves are either marked by rocks or have no markers at all. The cemetery is kept in fair condition and is still being used.
