My dad is buried at TN/GA along with other relatives and friends (both on my side and my husband's). A little tibit about the cemetery... it was originally owned by a Mrs. McCormick (I may have that name mis-spelled). She was one of my customer where I worked at the time and I will never forget her saying to me one day that she land enough to last 100 years and she was going to live to sell every lot. She died several years ago. I don't remember if she sold the cemetery before she died or if it was sold after her death. However, it is now owned by a corporation. I have checked on many records in the office there, including some burials that have no tombstones at the grave site, and have not had any problems. Not long ago, I checked on one for a friend whose grandfather was buried in the 1940's and the obituary from a Chattanooga paper was attached to the office records. We were glad to find that. I'm sorry that you missed out on establishing your family's history due to their error but am glad you now have it corrected. Sue PS... Since we are so close to Chattanooga, TN, most of the obituaries are carried in the CHATTANOOGA TIMES and/or CHATTANOOGA FREE PRESS. These go back to 1897 and the index is on-line through the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Becentennial Library. www.lib.chattanooga.lib click on community icon click on obituary icon go to the bottom of the page and click on data base. in the search window, type in last name first. click on the widow just below the name and hi-lit "browse author or name". If you enter a name and it wasn't entered exactly as it was put in the data base, it will come back "no match". However, if you hi-lited the "browse", it will take you to that surname data base and you can then search through each one to see if you can find the person for whom you are searching. Many times a person's name was in the paper as a nickname or second name. How ever it was in the paper is how it is entered in the data base. ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Gilreath <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 08, 2001 10:56 AM Subject: Re: [GAWALKER] Tennessee/Georgia Memorial Gardens > At 10:20 AM 6/8/01 -0400, you wrote: > >Joe, > > > >The office at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park have kept very good records > >and the staff, I have found, always willing to help. > > > Always willing to help, but be careful about the records part.
