    1. [GAWALKER] my intro - Durham Road
    2. Hello listers, I was on the EVANS list and wasn't making too much progress, then somebody suggested I get on the GADADE list, and then I got on the GAWALKER list, and now I believe I am related to everybody in Dade and Walker Cty. My dad was born on Durham Road, his family were coal miners at the Durham Coal and Mine Co, I visited Durham Rd a few years back, was totally overwhelmed to actually find it, then I met a man who had actually worked with one of my grandfathers brothers, Lack Evans - Mr. Harmon showed me around and I took pieces of coal that still lay on the ground and I listened to the earth to see if I could hear the long ago voices of my ancestors tell me how they survived and to maybe learn how I could survive in the present. On the 1910 census my dad was listed as being born Gordon Tom Evans, I always knew him as Thomas Gordon, my ancestors were Avans, somehow the spelling got changed thru the years, I know all in the library thought I was nuts when I saw my dad listed as being 1 year old on the film - to walk on Durham Road and to know that my feet were touching the same ground as my people from many, many years ago was an awesome and humbling experience, I know I felt their spirits in the wind on Durham Road and I knew in that moment I would never be alone, they would always be with me. Some things I have learned have not been "present time pretty" and it makes me sad to think some things could happen to a generation who suffered so much and knew the agony of pain and poverty. My dads sister, the firstborn, was born in TN., don't know when nor why they came to Durham Road, except that work=food=life. Would love to hear from any of you, if you have anything that you want to share I would love to hear from you. If you want a copy of my line as I have it so far, I can download it to you off-list, don't think the list takes attachments. delilah evans/avans Thomas Gordon Evans - my dad Thomas Watson Evans - my grandfather married Bennie Tinker Thomas Jefferson Avans - my ggrandfather - married Sarah Page Nunahi Duna Dio Hilu I
