Hello List, I was hoping that someone could help me out with something. I have been searching for my ggrandfather's parents, and I'm just not having any luck. I have tried to find a death certificate for him, but apparently there isn't one. I do have his obituary, and it says that the funeral services were held in the Mission Ridge Baptist Church, interment Mission Ridge Cemetery, and in charge Smith Funeral Service, Inc. My question is, does anyone out there know anything about this Smith Funeral Service, Inc? I have never heard of it before. I was just wondering if the name had since changed to something else, or if and when it shut down.... Ps. My ggrandfather's name was James Glenn Dunwoody, and he died in Rossville, Georgia, June 1934.. Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Many thanks in advance!! Thanks, Kim Wilson Email: [email protected]
Kim, I don't know what happened to the Smith Funeral Home but I have seen the name several times before. I know it was in Chattanooga. You might check the Chattanooga City Directories. Have you checked for a TN death certificate for your Dunwoody ancestor? The TN death certificates are on microfilm at the Chattanooga/Hamilton Co Library for that time period. Although filing a birth or death certificate in GA became law in 1919, I have seen cases all the way into the 1940's where one wasn't filed. The most recent that I searched for was a death in 1944.
