    3. The earliest iron works in the area near what later bacame Birmingham was the Tannehill Iron works eight miles southwest of Bessemer, just across the county line in Tuscaloosa County. My ancestor, Moses Stroup designed and built Tannehill Furnace #1 and he lived in Bibb County. The iron works was very near the intersection of Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, and Bibb counties lines.
