I am looking for a copy of the Sartain book. Does anyone know where to get one? I would like to know where James Sartain got information. I need to know this because he states on page 45 that "Wm. Ramey" was an original settler of Cane Creek. Where did this information come from? I think this book was written in the 1920's. The records of Walker Co. had been burned by that time so, it couldn't be from land records. If there are early records, I would like to know where they are so I could look at them. I am not disputing Sartain's information. I would just like to prove that this William Ramey is the father of my Jeremiah Ramey. Does the book have any references or bibliography? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Anne
Anne, I have the book and also the index. It states that Mr. Sartain used almost two dozen different historical sources to help in his research. Email me off list because I think I can help you. Anne, Your last name is Ramsey that you're researching, maybe misspelled as Ramey? I am a Nelson of Walker Co Ga. and believe my Nelsons to be connected to Sartain ,but not proven yet. Just came across data as of lately. If you are a Ramsey-- James Ramsey signed the civil war records of my gggrandfather in Ga.born in 1844, Father was Thomas Ramsey and you can find them aslo in Murray Co , Hall Co Ga as well as Greenville Sc. about the 1840 and 1850's. as well as Chestor Co.Sc. They must have been close friends. Let me hear from you, William might have been a brother. Also the name Jeremiah runs in our line. Blessing, Sartain was one of the earlier setlers of Walker Co.
