I would like to say hi to everyone interested in Walker County Genealogy. I am the new GaGenWeb County Coordinator. Very shortly the Walker County Site (which used to be coordinated by Sherry Osburn) will be going up at www.rootsweb.com/~gawalker . The opening page is actually already partially up. Within about a weeks time almost all of the content that was on the old Geocities site will be available at the new site. Sherry has graciously consented for all of the content which she contributed to the old site to be moved to the new site as long as it is still properly attributed. I still need an ok from Benton Fletcher who transcribed a whole lot of the content that came from the court house. I sent him an email about a week ago and have not heard back. If any one has a new address for him I would like to hear about it or if he gets this list I would love to hear from him. Anyone else who has made a contribution to the old Walker County site I would also love to hear from. As I start putting stuff up I would also like to hear from anyone who may feel that something that I have placed on the site is copyrighted material which we do not have the right to display. I am making some assumptions that thing on the site were either original or correctly attributed. Lastly if it is not on the site and it needs to be let me know that too, especially if it is something you have a source for and are willing to contribute. As of right now the site only has links to other sites because I am still in the process of check files for copyrights, removing geocities banner scripts, etc. The old site consisted of between 200 and 300 separate html files and hundreds more images. I will be putting things up as quickly as I can but I do not want the quality of the site to suffer from haste. Bill Clody Researching Hicks, Higgins, McCulley, Fain in Walker County Georgia
For Terry... I haven't been reading your posts because they didn't relate to my family. However, I remember looking for some names for you. Did I look for the James name? I just received the second Walker Co. Cemetery book. Who was it you were looking for that might be in Walker Co. cemeteries? I don't recall looking for James surname. Sheila
Sheila, I am looking for William and Nancy (SCOTT) JAMES and there maybe a John JAMES also. William was born 1781, Nancy was born about 1783.These two was listed on the 1860 Whitfield Co., GA., Census as 79 and 77. I don't know what it says but there is a William and John JAMES without number listed on the Probate Docket for Walker Co., GA. This maybe my William and his son, I don't find neither on any Census for 1870. I sure hope this goes through I have been having trouble get things posted. Terry, There are several people on the Walker County list that have books on cemeteries in Walker county. I am sure if you post what you need to know they will answer you unless there is nothing in the books regarding your query. I have posted to the Walker list and obtained a lookup from a kind soul on the list. Good luck with the probate court lookup. Don't worry about the mental problems, we all have them and just in case I missed someone I posted that last message to a bunch of lists. I know or think I saw more than one person researching the James name. :-) Paula ----- Original Message ----- From: "TERRY A MENDENHALL" <tsmoker@prodigy.net> To: <GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 19, 2001 11:00 AM Subject: Re: [GAWALKER] Deep Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Whitfield Co. Sheila, Frances Wallen was a sister to my GG Grandfather Joseph. The only info I have on her is that she was born December 27, 1847 in Walker County. Please please! have this person looking for her to get in touch with me! Campbell had several children. I have copies of tin types of him and his brother as well as a beautiful portrait of Campbell, Martha and their daughter Mary. I do have much info to help this person and would love to know about Frances. Thanks Linda Sue
Hey Sue, I could use a look up in the Marion County area! I am looking for a James (Jimmy) Murphy and wife Rachel. Actually any Murphys you might find. Also any Hollingsworth or Madaris burials. Thanks Linda Sue
Terry, I don't know if I gave you this info or not but according to the cemetery book of Whitfield County which was compiled prior to the 1980's for Deep Springs Baptist Church Cemetery you have ..... James S. James b.10 Oct 1806 d. 24 May 1890 Malinda A. E. Peck James b. 26 Mar 1810 d. 23 Jul 1884 w/o James S. That is all that is listed for the name James at that cemetery. I did notice when I was out there a few weeks ago that there were many unreadable markers though but newer ones than these should have been easier to read. I still have you in mind to email the pic of the church to if you still want it when I get them developed. Hi Paula, Do I see a title to your name? If so what does your job Entail? Paula one of the problems that I have my William and Nancy JAMES appeared on the 1860 Whitfield Co., Census and we can't find them and in 1860 William would of been 79 and Nancy would of been 76 or 77 depends on which past census is right. Then in Walker Co., GA., there is a unnumbered Probate Docket with William and John James on it. Maybe he actually died there I don't know. In response to my call for help a person is going around the 6th of June to find what is on the docket. They have a William James also. By the way the James S James is as we believe the first child of 13 born to William and Nancy James and that is his wife to, thanks. There is our Mary Ann (James) Creekmore, with allot more Creekmore buried there. Yes still would like the pic.
