    3. Ancestry.com (actually MyFamily.com which also owns ancestry.com) "took over" rootsweb a year or so ago. So far they have stood by their promise to keep rootsweb/genweb free. 3. I don't know if I will be able to go or not, it will depend on how I feel after coming in from church. Today has NOT been one of my better days!!! Although I'm not having to take chemotherapy treatments I am on a strong medication for the type of cancer I have. I'm not sure if I having a reaction to it or not. If I go, what would you all like for me to do? Wla, so glad to hear the good news about your brother and I will continue to pray for your daughter. Believe me, prayers are answered! 2. Hi Bill, this is a long shot but gonna try anyway. I am wondering abt your surname, Shepherd. My grandfather was Foster Shepherd Harris and as is often the case a middle name is actually a family surname! On my grandfather's maternal side there are Jones and Alversons. Of course his paternal side there is Harris and I am afraid that is all I have. Do any of these surnames connect with your Shepherd's. Are ancestors moved about in the same areas. thanks Jackie

    2. Like Anne, I would like some help here. I do understand that MyFamily.com/Ancestry.com now owns RootsWeb. But I did not think they "owned" the USGenWeb. Many of the USGenWeb state and county sites are housed on the RootsWeb servers but there are also many that are not and are on other servers. Am I correct here???? Perhaps Katherine can help with this one. I accidently got onto somthing one thing that was like a forum and it was a discussion about what were in the digest records. I don't how I happened t get on that forum, it certainly was by accident. Also every listing I believe that is entered to rootsweb, I noticed when a volunteer has worked on records , when you pull them up has the word copy writted at the top of the papers. So who has placed the copy write on them? Rootsweb? I know I see the volunteers names. I don"t have the answer to that . Do you Sue?? God Bless Wla

    2. I agree, I was totally stunned to find they bought Rootsweb - I would be very careful about what I put on any genealogy board that was a membership only - now Ancestry does have some free databases and every now and then they have free weeks to their main databases - but still if you don't join you may not be able to get what you want - when they added the census on-line, the price also went up for membership - I would be sure before I added anything that it would be free access - delilah At 09:22 6/23/01 -0700, you wrote: > >>That is correct, since Ancestry bought Rootsweb, it now has acquired the >>GenWeb project and it was a membership databank, so I believe that it will >>now include all the main links - I have belonged to Ancestry since it >>started - >>delilah evans >> >So does this mean that Ancestry.com owns Rootsweb and the GenWeb projects? >This includes the archives done by GenWeb?
