Linda, will check on the Wallin and Boss line, as i have alot of info on Boss families. Could you give me some dates? Seems like the Boss line carried names on down and this will help. Thanks,Janet .
Is anyone researching a line from Walker County, GA with an unknown Sally b. about 1832 or with a Sally Smith b. 1832? She was living there in 1850 with her parents James M. Smith and Susan Wallen. Sally was 18 years old. By 1860 the entire family has migrated to Randolph Co., AR but it does not seem that Sally arrived there with them. I am beginning to wonder if she married before they migrated and Sally stayed in Walker Co., GA with her husband's family. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Hi Janet, I would love to exchange info with you. I do have where James Monroe Married Georgia Boss. I descend from Mary Ann Parrish, his oldest child and she was the daughter of Elizabeth Ann Smith. I also descend from his brother Thomas Jefferson Parrish. Speaking of the Boss family. do you have a Betsy Wallin who married a Boss? My Great grandfather Julius had a sister Betsy who married a Boss but I have no info on him. Linda Sue

Delilah, I hope you enjoy the book............I did not mean to sound as if I was not proud of it because I am. His Granddaughter gave me a copy a few years ago and I treasure it. As for more copies, I have ask Jeanette to get more but I have not heard from her as of yet. He did spell his name Earnest but on bible records he was named Ernest, so I do go back and forth on the two different spellings. My Grandfather and my father was named after him. Neither of them went by it though, My Grandfather went by the Cherokee name Obie. The strange thing in this family is that two of the Hollingsworth siblings from this family married a Cherokee Wilkerson, but no one in the family knows anything about them or if they do they claim to know nothing. I do have one cousin who is a Granddaughter to the Bill Wilkerson in the book and she did confirm that the men in this family knew the Cherokee medicine. I also met a lady in Chickamauga who claimed she knew who my Great great-grandfather Andrew J. Wilkerson and that he saved her mother years and years ago by taking a part of a buckeye and cooking it to give to her mother. She remembered that he told them never to try it on their own as a buckeye was deadly if you did not know what part of it to use. After reading in the book about Bill, I knew that all of it had to be true. The only thing that I am not sure about is if it was Bill or Andrew. Bill would have been a young man during the time period that Earnest was talking about so I believe he was talking about Andrew, Bill's father. He would have been about 60 then. Linda Sue

PREFACE "There is a saying around the coal mines - ""To be a good miner you need to have a strong back and a weak mind."" And another saying is ""A coal miner never worries, because the company tells him what to do, his wife spends his money, and his neighbors run his business."" They both pretty well tell the truth. The author is now eighty years old, and has spent almost forty years in and around coal mines. His life started on a cotton farm in Walker County, Georgia. When he was eight years old, the family moved to the Durham coal mine on Lookout Mountain, which was the only coal mine in the state of Georgia. He went to work in this mine when he was fourteen years old, and later when he was near eighteen, he went to Alabama to another mine, from there to Oklahoma, then to Virginia, then to Kentucky. He has done everything that is to be done in a coal mine from coal loading to the mine supertendent of one of the largest mines in the country. During his mining career, he spent one year in the armed forces during World War I, ten months of the year being spent in France. He also worked a few months in a zinc mine in Oklahoma.........." the author SOURCE: 'THE OLD MINER AND HIS GUARDIAN ANGEL' by EARNEST HOLLINGSWORTH Copyright 1977 by Earnest Hollingsworth ......CREDIT GIVEN
I am looking for any information about William L. Riley and family. He was Sheriff of Walker County from 1899 to 1903. The 1900 census says he was born in NC but all listed children were born in Georgia. His wife Sarah (maiden name?) was born in Tennessee. Anyone who has information, you help is much appreciated. Reply to list or directly to erf30@aol.com. Thanks.
Delilah, That book was written by my Grt Grt Uncle Ernest Hollingsworth. When he mentions his oldest brother, he is speaking of my Great Grandfather, Jesse Monroe Hollingsworth. I wished that he was more clear on names to help others because someone who does not know that family will never figure out who he could be talking about. In one part of the book he mentions his old Cherokee friend Bill Wilkerson and he was actually his brother-in-law and a brother to Jesse's wife (my Grt Grandmother Iley Wilkerson). So he was not very clear on some relationships as he could have been. The Grandpa Parrish he mentions was James Monroe Parrish, son of John Parrish born 1805. If you need help with the book let me know. Linda Sue
Have just started the reading - will keep you posted - so far I see the author believed in 'reincarnation' - not sure if that is my belief or not, but everyone is entitled to their own beliefs (I will defend those rights for all) - its a very interesting book, thus far - he has not made it to the Durham Mines as of yet - delilah evans At 12:54 7/28/01 -0500, you wrote: >Deliah Evans, >Is there any mention of any Quinton family members in your book? Deliah Evans, Is there any mention of any Quinton family members in your book? We have met up with the infamous brick wall in Walker Co. in 1850. We find Bob's great grandfather there with most of his uncles but can't get back any further. I am trying to get in touch with Judith Gotcher. She is descended from Jeremiah Ramey and Pricilla Wheeler Ramey. Jeremiah and Pricilla lived and married in Walker Co. I found a listing that Judith put on Gen Forum but, her email came back to me with the address I found there. Judith are you on this list or does anyone know her? She has a picture of Pricilla that I would really like to get a copy of. Any help would be appreciated. Anne
