5 "I think it was in the fall of 1904, my Grandad Parrish sent a letter to all his ten children asking them to come to his house on a Sunday one monnth ahead. This letter caused quite a bit of confusion among his children because he had married another woman too soon after their mother died, and my Mother was the only one who had been back home since he had remarried. Mother was next to the oldest of the ten children an dher dad relied on her for various reasons and jobs......On other thing, she could talk to the other children and they would listen to her. In this letter she had a P.S., ""talk to the others.""....They thought he might be wanting to divide his land among the kin....... Uncle Luther Clark, who married Mother's youngest sister, was the only one of the family that was missing and he was a conductor on the AGS railroad and he might not make it in time for dinner. .....This was the first automobile any of us kids had ever seen and several of the grownups had never seen one either. The car was some sight to us kids, the small T model had a big horn tied on top and several boxes..... Gramp's second wife sold herself to all the kids but Uncle George was the sour apple of the kids...... I will always remember the first record that was played on the old Edison round cylinder talking machine, it was about Uncle Josh and his rheumatism. Boy seeing an automobile and a talking machine all in one day was about too much for a kid in the early 1900's." I could make a few suggestions. You could send to Alanta Ga. for a Death record a it's of 1930 and would give you more information. You could ask for a look-up from the obit from the Walker Co. Library. There are fees for bth of these these things. You could also ask to see if some one would do a look-up for you n the Walker Co pages. My best suggestion would be the death records you might have more information on there. I always send for them when it it possible and you will only get cause of death if you ask for it!. I always ask. Thank you and God Bless, Wla.

As a child, - I'm now in my 60's- I can remember going into Alabama from what the sign called "The State of Dade." We had to get out of the car, open a gate, and drive through on a rutted road that was mostly big rocks. That road today scoots across Sand Mt., into the valley and on to South Pittsburg, Tenn. -then to the Interstate. What a change! S. Betts

Emma, I have some information about the Massey family and I got it from Lee Rau who is also on this list. I descend from Nathan Massey and also from his sister Avis. I will look in my file and see what I can find for you. The name Ivester is unusual and I am a little curious about it. The first names Vester, Vesta and Sylvester was used in one of my lines a bunch. I will get back with you if I find something out on the Massey. Linda Sue

Hi Everyone, I could really, really use some help with a problem I have in Walker county. I am hunting information on a Jacob Ivester and the person I believe to be his father John Ivester. John Ivester and his wife Elizabeth Helms are last found in the 1820 census of Rutherford Co., NC with 2 males under 10 years of age. At that point they disappear. Then... in the 1850 census of Walker Co., Georgia I find these folks: Jacob Ivester - 30 - farmer - NC Nancy - 24 - SC John - 5 - Ga Monroe - 3 - Ga Reuben - 1 - Ga Elizabeth - 1 - Ga The Monroe, age 3 is my great-grandfather. His full name is Asa Monroe Ivester. To date I do not know Nancy's maiden name but more about that later in the message. And then very near to them in the census is this family: Eason, John B. - 24 - farmer - Ga Elmira - 19 - SC James T. - 1 - Ga In 1860 both of these families are listed together in the Craighead Co., Arkansas census. We believe that Elmira Eason's maiden name was Ivester and we also believe that she might be a sister to Jacob Ivester. However, other possibilities also exist. But based on that theory I searched and searched for an Eason family that fits. By the way, later on John Eason and Elmira also name a child Asa. In fact, these two families name their children with a lot of the same names. I have recently found out that in some funeral home records in Missouri for one of their children, Nancy's maiden name is listed as Massey (Massy). So now... I am on a search for a Massey/Massy family that might be Nancy's parents. And perhaps there is a possibility that Nancy and Elmira are sisters. I really would appreciate any assistance on these folks. Thanks so much - Emma
Linda Sue, For you information there is a copy of the book available through Books-A-Million. I checked their website out of curiosity. Go to the Hard-to Find section and type in the name. It is a used book, of course. Joyce Buffat
Well............it sounds right! Earnest was born May13, 1897, so he would have been going into first grade about 1905, if they started school at 6 or 7. I loaned my book to my neighbor since he grew up around coal mines in WV and was interested in it. Therefore, I do not have it to read about Jackie Boss. As for copies of the book, I need to get with my cousin Jeanette about them, If not maybe I can somehow make copies of the pages and send them to anyone that needs them. Linda Sue
Yes, yes Thanks! Linda Sue
Delilah, I have followed with interest the comments on the book. My grandmother, Eugenia Keown, was a teacher at the school in the Durham area probably in the late 1910's. Is there any information about the school? Or the name Keown mentioned? I have a photo that is supposed to be of a class at that school. Whither this is correct or not I don't know. There is no info on the photo. Exactly where is Durham? Thanks for your help. Joyce
