    1. [GAWALKER] From List Mom - Informative site - and other items.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, I was sent this site by a fellow researcher "Index to the Guion Miller Roll" http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/guionmiller/index.htm I found it very interesting - and thought I would pass it on to you. Now for the other items. This message is being sent out to all of my list, some which only have 3 members and some with almost 1000. If you are one of my smaller lists and feel that you only hear from me, why don't you take this opportunity to send a query to the list. If you need help from me, please put something in the subject line to alert me that the message is a request for help. When I am at work during the day I use http://www.mail2web.com from my office computer to keep an eye on my lists. I can only read the subject line from there and unless I open each and every message which most times are in the hundreds by 10 am in the morning. This is two time consuming while at work. So, to repeat, if you need my help, please place something in the subject line so that I will know your request needs attention quickly. One more item, It is time or about time when most children are heading back to school and many Moms and or Dads who are staying home now have additional time to work on their genealogy. If we begin to get messages across the lists that do not conform to the guidelines we have for our list, please just let them pass. Remember I am behind the scenes taking care of these problems, helping members subscribe and unsubscribe and reminding members of the guidelines of the list. The only time I send out corrections to the entire list is when the entire list is involved or when one of our members is being attached on the list - I then come to the defense in the same place the attack took place -- On the list. Enjoy the site - Thank you for your continued support. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Dec 13-1866 Catoosa Co Ga, to Mary Ann Bird b. Sep 1840 Tn d. abt 1905 Waldron, Scott Co Ar They had two children somewhere in Ga [I believe Walker Co] Nancy Elizabeth White abt. 1867 ? Mary Jane White b. Sep 26-1869 d. 1. [GAWALKER] GAWALKER-D Migration from TN to West GA
    2. I live west of Atlanta and there was an article in the Villa Rica GA newspaper about the unusual migration from Tennessee to West GA during the early 1800's when gold was discovered in Villa Rica ('Rich City'). The article is about New Hope Church and Cemetary which contains graves as early as 1845, and many from the Civil War. The newspaper website is www.villarica,com. I thought this might be another avenue to try and find some of our 'lost' ancestors.

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Aug. 16 -- ProQuest Company's (NYSE:PQE) Information and Learning unit announced today that it has acquired Heritage Quest <www.HeritageQuest.com>, the North Salt Lake City-based genealogical information company, from Sierra On-Line, Inc., a division of Vivendi Universal Publishing. With holdings of more than 250,000 publications and titles, Heritage Quest is the largest genealogical information provider in the United States. The Heritage Quest product line -- which includes the popular Heritage Quest Web-based information service, as well as microfilm, CD-ROMs, and print products (Heritage Quest magazine, Genealogy Bulletin, more than 400 books, and more than 100 indexes) -- will be added to ProQuest's genealogical resources, including the Genealogy and Local History Online <http://www.umi.com/cgi-bin/ShowItem?PID=P0099&market=cu> database and Sanborn Maps Online <http://www.umi.com/special/Sanborn/>. To date, Heritage Quest information comprises more than 3 terabytes of digitized data, with more digitization planned. Having the entire US Federal Census online, 1790-1920, will make it much easier for genealogists to research their families. "Genealogical research is a top-ranked hobby in the United States, with over 70 million active participants," said Joe Reynolds, president and chief executive officer of ProQuest Information and Learning. "Most people rely on local libraries to help them find the information they need. With the addition of Heritage Quest information to our own collection of some 7 million pages of content, we'll be able to provide libraries and their users with the most comprehensive collection of genealogical information available anywhere designed specifically for use in libraries. "Previously, genealogists had to consult multiple sources to find the information that will be integrated into a single source," said Reynolds. Unique census data "Of particular value are the complete historical United States census records dating from 1790 to 1920, which are hand-written," added Reynolds. "Census records are the most uniquely valuable research tool for genealogical researchers, because they provides specifics: which family members were alive at that time; where they lived; their occupations, ages; and other important information. When added to the thousands of family records and local history files that we already offer online and those that we are acquiring, researchers will be able to gain a more complete picture of their heritage. The Heritage Quest census data provides names and statistics; our Genealogy & Local History Online collection puts those names in context. The combination is powerful." These online census records will be fully indexed to extremely high standards and offered in full page image, so users can view documents in their original format. In addition to the census records, ProQuest will expand its offerings with other unique content from Heritage Quest: military records, ship passenger lists, county records, selected state censuses, Native American records, marriage records, local and family histories, African-American family records, city directories, and more. ProQuest will begin to integrate the Heritage Quest data into its genealogical databases immediately. Current subscribers to Genealogy and Local History Online, ProQuest's Web-based genealogy database for libraries, will have access to census data by late fall 2001. The ProQuest product will support remote access, a key benefit for patrons who use library resources offsite. The Heritage Quest name will be extended as a brand name for all of ProQuest's genealogical resources, including online databases, microform, and print products. Founded in 1983 by Bradley and Raeone Steuart, Heritage Quest is a leading purveyor of genealogical data, products, supplies, and equipment to consumers and institutions. The company has been known for its high-use data, landmark publications, general-reference books, and informative periodicals for genealogy enthusiasts. In September 1999, the company was acquired by Sierra On-Line, Inc. ProQuest plans to maintain the Salt Lake City office and operations. 3. I sent the other earlier and didn't really look at your full name until I had sent it. The interesting thing is the people living next door to the Reeves in 1880 Florida were Jeffcoats Bill ----- Original Message ----- From: Leslie Maddocks To: GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Tuesday, August 14, 2001 11:43 AM Subject: [GAWALKER] Reaves/Reeves I am searching for the descendants of Solomon T. Reaves b 1850 in Florida and Alice A. Speer. I believe that Solomon died in Florida and for some unknown reason Alice took the children to Walker Co. where they appear in the 1900 census. The census shows she was the mother of 6 with 5 surviving. Listed are: Bonnie, Erskine, Eva M., Ionie, and Pallie. Other researchers give the names as Barney/Barnie, Erskine, Eva, Onie and Pollie. Plus this family is well noted for interchanging first and middle names and spelling both Reaves and Reeves, although most have maintained the Reaves spelling. Alice died in Walker Co. in 1930 and the only papers filed were from a non-family member for the meager remainder of the estate. This could have been the funeral home director - last name Bryan. No mention is made of the children. In the on-line marriages there are only two possibilities of marriages listed - Pallie to Fred Woods 3 Jul 1907 and Pollie to J. A. Hale 5 April 1900. S! o ! far I have no birthdates or other information on these children, who they married or where they went. Any and all help appreciated.
