Hi Have you look at records in Martinsville, VA? I know that there is still Doyle families there. Linda
Speaking of Kilgores............ My mother's first husband was a Kilgore and he was born in Grundy County, TN, I have always wondered if there was a connection of the two Kilgore families since Grundy is so close to Walker County. Does anyone know that mystery? Linda Sue
Has anyone heard of Shorsphire Town in or around Walker, Catoosa or Chattooga Counties. I heard that it was a plantation with man enslaved Africans. Beverly
Re: Kilgore Family There remains some Kilgores in Walker County. I remember my mother talking about Mrs. Kilgore as I was growing up in Chickamauga, Ga. Bev.

I think that I may have information about Lewis R. Powell. My relative was Millie (Millity) Powell. She married William Prothro in Elbert Co. They show up on the 1840 and 1850 Walker Co. census. I have not been able to locate them after that. I have some information on a Lewis R. Powell. Do you know the birth date or time frame for your Lewis R. Powell? If anybody has information on William or Millie Prothro I would love to see it. I listed all the photos that were in the book I have, this lady is still doing her books and I believe still lives in Walker Cty - she also sells them, so maybe if there are those who have ancestors in this one I have, then maybe you might want to consider just getting the book/s since I am sure the photos are much better than a copy, also the information in the book may have something on your family. I am going to purchase from her some of her other works - delilah evans At 17:16 10/17/01 +0000, you wrote: >Delilah >Are there any pictures of Hicks or Hix family in this >book? >Elsie >> Photo of three men: >> Leige SATTERFIELD >> Bill SATTERFIELD >> William SATTERFIELD >> ------------------------ >> family photo: >> This picture is believed to have been taken around 1915. Denise, I don't have anything on a Lucille Brock. The Brock's that I research mainly were in Kentucky ( southeastern ). Com you don't always have to put in a name . I don't have it anymore, I took it for a free trial and if you in the name of a company- such as I did "Rolling Mills." also one Railroad Co. every one that wored for that for them will come up that they have in their data base. . As I don't have it any more . I don't know if it still works like that . It has been two years since I tried that and many changes have taken place. But if you do it is worth a try.
Patty and others, If any records survived about the Walker Co Poor Farm I don't know where they are but sure would like to find them. I, along with others, have looked for them with no luck. I also understand there were no markers at the cemetery connected with the Poor Farm in LaFayette... just field stones. One of the reasons I'm interested is that my husband gr-gr-gr-grandfather, Whale Turner and wife, Mary, lived there. Whale died in the 1890's but Mary was still living after 1900 in the Poor Farm. There was once a place that I've always heard referred to as the county home that was located on what is now part of the Roper property south of LaFayette. I can remember an old building that used to stand by the edge of Broomtown road near where some old trees stand now by Roper's fence. There was a civil war reenactment held around it in the 70's. There is a cemetery connected with this place that is located across Broomtown road back in the woods. It is behind another building that is on the lot next to Salem Carpets. Several of the graves are falling in and I don't recall seeing many markers that still had legible names. It has been several years since I last visited this place. Roper didn't build their plant until the mid to late 1970s. Hi Patty, I have been watching this site as well and when you name came across, it prompted me to ask if you might know anything of a Lucille Brock that married C.F. Strickland back in the 1920's?
