    1. Re: [GAWALKER] libraries

    3. This is straight from the lady at the La Fayette Library who maintains the computer system for the Cherokee Regional Libraries which includes La Fayette (aka Walker Co Library), Chickamauga, Rossville and Dade Co. The Cherokee Regional Library page is down. It has been since last Monday a week ago. There is a problem and it is being worked on but they do not know when the page will be back up. The repair work is taking longer than they thought. HOURS: Each of the four libraries in the system have different hours although all are closed on Sunday. The hours at the La Fayette Library are: Monday and Wednesday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tomorrow, Oct 25th, they will close at 5 p.m. for an annual meeting that includes the other three libraries. I don't know about Chickamauga's hours. Dade County's are: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rossville's hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday: 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. A SAD NOTE REGARDING THE ROSSVILLE LIBRARY: It appears that the Rossville Library will be permanently closed December 31st because of funding. The City of Rossville, which has helped with the funding in the past, has withdrawn those funds because of financial difficulties. If the Library can not raise $28,000.00 before the end of the year it will close. Although some donations have come in there is not near enough to cover the entire $28,000.00. Any one wishing to obtain copies of the letters and documents may place orders the day of the meetings. There are slave Bill of Sales, Deeds, Promissory Notes, Will information, Tax payment receipts and much more. The public is invited. 1. [GAWALKER] found mistake on 1900 census for Walker County - Bullard NOT Ballard surname...
    2. When I was looking over the Census for Walker County's 1900 Census, I saw what seemed to be a letter mistake. I'm pretty sure that the Ballard's listed, are really the Bullard family. 3. Linda, There is a connection between the Kilgores of Walker County (Lookout Mtn area) and Grundy Co/Marion Co. TN. The original Kilgores here on the mountain (from what I understand) came to work in the Durham mines and stayed. 1. [GAWALKER] HENDERSON get-together
    2. Paula Franklin
    3. For anyone that is interested, there will be a get-together of descendants of JOSEPH and MAHALA MCMURRAY HENDERSON on Saturday, October 27, 2001 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Whitfield County, Dalton, GA. Bring a covered dish and your cameras. Dinner will be around 1 PM. This get-together is occasioned by the visit to our fair city of Peter and Maureen Furmidge Henderson. Peter is the son of Jesse Francis Henderson, grandson of William H. Henderson and greatgrandson of John David and Mary Elizabeth McCune Henderson. Jesse (Peter's father) disappeared during World War I and was thought to be dead. However, he fell in love with and married a young lady in England by the name of Gertrude Sanders and stayed there. After his parents death, Peter began searching for his American family with very little to go on, but he did find us and made his first visit here in 1981. We hope that everyone connected with the family will stop by this Saturday and say hello to Peter ! and Maureen and any of the rest of us that they don't know. All descendants no matter how remote are welcome. If you need directions or information please feel free to contact me. Paula http://www.geocities.com/huntingkin/ Sorry for duplicates, just trying to cover all bases.

    3. There seems to be lots of migration from east Tennessee to Walker County. On my in-laws side of my family my wife's grandparents families both migrated from Blount County Tennessee to Walker county Georgia but about 50 years apart so they hadn't known each other in Tennessee. ----- Original Message ----- From: Hollyblu1@aol.com To: GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, October 20, 2001 12:14 AM Subject: Re: [GAWALKER] photos from book Speaking of Kilgores............
