Delilah that book sounds great can you send me infomation on where and obtain this book. thanks for that great tip. Bonnie
For those who have ancestors from the NE Alabama and the NW Georgia areas - there is a non-fiction book called "Ava's Man" by Rick Bragg - it tells the story of a family during the depression years - but it also has a lot of genealogy in it - if you don't know the author, he is a Pulitzer Prize winner and not only is the book good reading but the genealogy in this particular book is very good. Some of the surnames mentioned are: Bundrum (Bondurant) Morrison Presley Lee Hamilton Sanders Isom Osby And many others I have not got to yet, it is set mostly in the Gadsden area but makes mention of the Birmingham, Jacksonville and NW GA mountain areas, and names a lot of places that probably no longer exist. Not to be "spamming" but you will love it, it is set in the 1930's for the most part. delilah evans

They has some children I believe and then moved to Walker Ga. and may of had more born there. There were 11 children and chances are most were married in Georgia. Will I be Luck in Asking? Does any one in Walker Co. have a listing on these Parents/children as they grew up and married? I always appreciate all help and wish to say Thank you for reading and any help. Dear List, I'm trying to connect with my ggrandmother's family who may have lived in Walker Co., Georgia. Her name was Sarah Elizabeth (Lizzie) Browning (b. about 1860), and she was married in 1881 to Charles Robert (Charlie) Salmon. Lizzie died in Floyd County, Georgia. I'm trying to determine if her father was Washington L. Browning who was living in Walker County in 1870 with his wife Martha and his children. If anyone is researching the BROWNING line, please let me know - I have absolutely no information on this branch of my family and could use some help! Thanks. Linda (txsvalley@aol.com) (Also researching these other surnames in Walker County: SALMON, BROOM(e), COOK, and WHEATLEY.)
Clayton, What part of LaFayette did Spencer live in and how many enslaved African did he own? Where did he come from orginally? Thanks Beverly

Spencer Marsh was a successful businessman and pioneer settler in LaFayette in the Mid 1830's until about 1880. He built the Marsh Warthen house and was one of the trustees in the first academy that was built there. He had considerable wealth and loaned money and bought and sold land in the city of LaFayette. He also ran a dry goods business there and possibly a small hotel. It was clear from the records we have that he conducted much business with the early settlers in Walker County. I believe the local DAR chapter gets their name from his father William who served as a Revolutionary solider. -----Original Message----- From: BFo8936134@aol.com [mailto:BFo8936134@aol.com] Sent: Thursday, October 25, 2001 5:35 AM To: GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GAWALKER] libraries Clayton Bell Who was Spencer Marsh?
