    3. The Macedonia cemetery is about 2/10 of a mile west of the old Villanow country store. On the left, directly behind the Macedonia Baptist Church, anyone interested in visiting is sure to find it. The church and cemetery is very visible from GA hwy 136. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Clody [mailto:bclody@charter.net] Sent: Thursday, November 15, 2001 10:39 AM To: GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GAWALKER] County Historian Deborah, The USGS lists several cemeteries as being located at Villanow. The variant name for Macedonia Cemetery is Villanow Cemetery. It is located at 344023N 0850639W That is of course degrees/minutes/seconds latitude and longitude. I live just northeast of there barely in Whitfield County but the only one I know about close to Villanow is there at the church. Of course that does not mean there are not a dozen there close because I have not explored the area, I just thought that someone at the store might be of some help to you. 2. By no means do I know enough to be classified a historian of anyplace, this is what i found n the "History of Walker County" by James Alfred Sartain, 1932 - VILLANOW. This is, without doubt, the most beautiful name in the county. It is said to have originated as follows: When it was proposed to establish a postoffice there a name was needed. Constantine Wood's wife, and mother of the late Captain J.Y. Wood, proposed the name, saying: "It is no longer a hamlet, but now a village or village now, i.e. Villanow." EARLY DAYS IN WALKER by Captain J.Y. Wood "...About the year 1840, a mail route was established from LaFayette to New Town, a point in Gordon county on the road above named. This route was by Villanow...." "...Mr. Fred Stanell of East Armuchie, tells of an Indian trail that once passed near Villanow, thence crossing Dick's and Taylor's Ridges...." another place also mentions around East Armuchee valley - maybe this will give you something to go on as to a location. Probably not. Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2001 13:45:28 -0600 Hey Cousins, It is said there is nothing new under the sun, but I saw something yesterday, though it may not be new, it is certainly new to me. I'll try to describe it for you. While walking through an old cemetery here in Harvey County, KS, I ran across five headstones, broken from their bases. The people who are keeping the cemetery, in very good condition I might add, have built wooden forms the thickness of the various broken stones, laid the stones flat at the head of the grave with the wooden forms around them (with about a 6 inch space all around the stones) and poured concrete into the forms flush with the face of the stones. The stones appear to have been cleaned with mild detergent and a brush. Once dried, it appears that they have poured a coating of either automotive clear coat, or the hard acrylic clear coating found in hobby shops. The end result is a stone too heavy to steal, a coating to protect the face of the stone and the preservation of information for years to come. This may not be new, but it is novel and certainly crucial to genealogy researchers in the years to come. Just thought I would share this with the list, in hopes that it will generate some protection across the nation for the many broken or damaged stones. I might add, that the ones that were in two or three or more pieces, were put together and once coated, all you see are the break lines but they can't be moved. Dean Taylor

According to the family bible, some of which is barely legible, she was born September 3, 1888 in Dry Valley, Georgia, which I believe is in Walker County, Georgia. I have located the official record of her marriage at Alton Park, Tennessee on November 9, 1903 to H. W. Walker (Henry Whildon Walker, b1877 or 1888 in Midway, SC) I would be grateful for any information or assistance you can provide. God Bless America Frank
