Starting today (Monday, 6/10) and extending over several days, RootsWeb is going to be moving the list servers and other machines. No messages sent are expected to be lost, but the lists will be down for a while when it happens; during this time, please don't post "why am I not getting mail"....you will get your mail when the system comes back up, and you don't want half of it to be everyone on the list asking why aren't they getting mail. If you have trouble reaching other RW servers this week, it's probably for the same reason; try again in an hour or two or three..... Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Good morning, I wanted to remind everyone that most of the Georgia AHGP web sites have places where you can post your family or school reunion or get-together for free. These can be posted state-wide from the main page at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/state/ or most of the individual counties have them. You can also post them nation-wide at http://genroots.net/reunions.html The Henderson and Related Families Reunion is just a short week away. Check out the related families surname list to see if your surnames are on it at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/whitfield/ Some of these surnames are only one person that married into the family but it never hurts to check things out. Don't miss the chance to meet new family for the failure to check this list of names. Happy hunting, Paula whitfieldkin@yahoo.com

Karen, why not post the obituary on the Delta Genealogical Society's web page. We cover Walker County GA as well as Southeast TN. Marion County has a genealogical group as well. I can't ever remember Delta's web page URL but it goes through rootsweb and isn't hard to find. Cenchat (now Chattanooga Valley) was at the foot of Lookout Mountain approximately 4/5 miles south of the GA/TN line. I recognize the surname BURK as it also connects to my LONG family but am not familiar with the Washburn. Hi Sue, I just noticed the Nabors note. There's a lady named Nell Truitt that I met at the Dade Co. Courthouse while rifling through old records. She was researching the Neighbors/Nabors family. I'll forward the postings to her & you can contact her as well, if you haven't already. Her e-mail is JoyceNell@aol.com. Sheila Stockhausen
Dear list members... We are still searching for NABORS descendants because of the small family cemetery that is to be moved here in Dade County GA. However, according to Georgia law we are not only searching for descendants of Benjamin NABORS (Sr) and wife, Mary "Polly" SULLIVAN but those of their son, Benjamin F. NABORS as his grave can be proven. Benjamin F. NABORS (sometimes spelled NEIGHBORS) was born 6 Nov 1824 either in AL or TN... perhaps Warren Co TN. He married Harriet MAGILL, daughter of Hugh and Rebecca (---) MAGILL in Hamilton Co TN on 4 July 1869. Their known children were: Franklin, b. 1871/72; d. 14 Sept 1831 bur. in MAGILL Cemetery next to his sister-in-law, Nellie HIXON NABORS. He md. Jessie JONES on 17 March 1912 in Dade County. Believe Franklin had at least one daughter. Robert Henry, b. ca 1874; d. in Sacramento, CA; md. Nellie HIXON in Dade Co on 10 Oct 1897. There are descendants of Robert and Nellie living in Chattanooga (Hamilton Co) TN as well as Sacramento (Sacramento Co) CA. James C., b. 1876; moved to Meridian, MS sometime after 1910. There are supposed to be descendants still living in that area of MS/AL. Benjamin J., died young on 5 June 1884. There may be an older son, John B., b. 1870/71 who married Elizabeth JANNEY. Elizabeth is buried in Wildwood Cemetery. No further information on John. Benjamin F. NABORS died 10 Nov 1888 and his grave as well as the grave of the child, Benj. J., have tombstones. Former owners of the property have said that Harriett's grave was next to that of her husband, Benjamin F. but the tombstone disappeared many years ago. >From deed records, Harriett died 8 Jan 1909 in Hamilton Co TN. Again per deed records the only heirs at the time of her death were sons, Franklin, Robert and James It is also believed that Benjamin (Sr) and Mary "Polly" SULLIVAN NABORS are also buried here. Benjamin (Sr) and Mary NABORS' children were Margaret who md David TITTLE, lived in Hamilton Co. Descendants of this couple are scattered from TN, to FL to TX. Barthana/Bartheny md Norman (Warren) SAVAGE of Warren Co TN. This couple was living in Hamilton Co TN in 1850, 60. Barthana was the only child mentioned in her father's will other than her brother, Benjamin (Jr) who was executor. She and Norman were the parents of several children. Martha who married John WALLEN. There still should be descendants of this couple living in the area of Dade Co and Hamilton Co. A "letter-to-the-editor" was sent to the CHATTANOOGA FREE PRESS asking for assistance. However, the newspaper editor refused to publish it. If anyone has any information, please contact me at sueforrester@hotmail.com or by calling 706-398-3340. If calling please leave a message on how to return your call. Thank you for any help you might be able to give. Sue .
Good morning, Just finished and uploaded another new tribute page to the Whitfield County AHGP web site. This page also contains Walker County information. You can see this wonderful memorial page at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/whitfield/Veterans2.html That's two pages in two days. I just had to stay up and get it online when I received the information a couple of hours ago. Yes, I am a glutton for punishment but now I can go sleep half the day away. Paula
Paula - Thanks for sharing your tribute. I loved it. My Whitfield/Murray kin is Brumlow/Brumbelow. Calvin Hamilton BRUMLOW is my gg-grandfather. I believe he was the one that was part of the 4th Georgia Calvary and died at Rock Island Prison. His son Albert S.Johnson BRUMLOW, served in the Spanish American War, and is my great grandfather. Our Walker County link is WHITE, BELL, MOORE & EVATT/EVITT and is through my husband, who served in the USMC in Korea. His father was is WWI. God bless you and yours also. Gosh Bonnie, I spent all morning crying when I made the tribute page to my family of military personnel and just when I got straightened back out you have me started again. Say thanks to your husband from me. I have to agree with you, we should all say thanks to our men in uniform. If you would like to see my family page, and we have Walker County kin and I should have announced it on this mailing list earlier today, but our family tribute is at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/whitfield/Veterans.html Maybe I want be in too much hot water for not doing that earlier. A total of 17 Medals of Honor, and 70 Navy Crosses were awarded for the campaign of the Chosin Reservoir, the most ever for a single battle in U. S. military history. Chosin pitted about 15,000 allied ground troops, mostly the 1st Marine Division and Regimental Combat Teams from the Army's 7th Infantry Division, against 120,000 Chinese infantrymen concealed in the mountains around the valley town of Yudam-ni. The Chosin fighters, by decimating and checkmating the Chinese forces in the mountains, enabled the evacuation of 100,000 North Korean civilians, (men, women and children) by sea, the last on Christmas Eve. Historians have termed Chosin the most savage battle of modern warfare. The CHOSIN FEW reunites allied survivors of the 1950 battle of the Chosin (Changjin) reservoir fought that November - December in North Korean mountains near Manchuria. Founded April 22, 1983, and formally recognized as a Non-profit association by the Internal Revenue Service. The CHOSIN FEW has aggregate membership of 6000 (3917 active) as of November 1, 1998 from all U. S. Services. Plus former South Koreans (ROK), British Marine Commandos and Royal Australian Air Force members. The name stems from the fact that so FEW survived that were engaged in the Battle at The Chosin. Night before last, my husband and I attended an evening dinner cruise with his fellow Marines, Chattanooga's Chapter of Chosin Few, who served in Korea during the winter of 1950 in the Chosin Reservoir Battle. (Some of this info is from http://home.hawaii.rr.com/chosin/Purpose.HTM ) On Monday, we will go to the local National Cemetery to pay tribute to those who died at Chosin and in other battles. If you see an old soldier, just say thanks. He will know why, and appreciate the fact that he is remembered at all. Teach your children that the first doughboys had nothing to do with Pillsbury. God bless each of you.
Hi, Just a reminder, if you will be out at the cemetery this weekend making pictures, please make a few extra to share with those researchers not fortunate enough to be from this area or that are not able to travel to the cemeteries. I have received many comments from people saying that they would appreciate anyone that can do this because they are unable to travel for health reasons and have to do all their research by computer or mail. So please, if you haven't finished that roll off on your own find a few extra burial markers and snap them, scan the pictures and email them to me along with the cemetery name and county and I will get them posted in hopes they may help other researchers. Photos are not limited to what you take this weekend. If you have old ones lying around that you would be willing to share you may send them also. If you do not have scan capabilities please contact me and we will work something out to do them by snail mail. Many, many thanks from me and all the other researchers out here in internet land.
