    3. It sounds like Judge W.W. Hale, Dade County's famous "marrin' judge" might have had the honors to officiate. Judge Hale lived in Rising Fawn and liked nothing better than officate at weddings. His charge must have been $5.00 as it was said of him that after the vows were said he would turn to the groom and say "I got my money and you got your honey." No, the marriages are not on-line... I would be glad to check for you in a couple of weeks. I can't before that time. 1. [GAWALKER] SOLDIERS IN GRAY
    2. Beverly Forrester
    3. Sorry for not letting you all know sooner but the last few days have been hectic. The play, Soldiers in Gray, A Musical Journey--, will be held in the Dade County High School auditorium, Trenton, GA., this Saturday evening at 7 p.m. (et). The admission is just enough to cover expenses and will be $3.00 per person or 2 for $5.00. Students 18 and under will be admitted free. Sponsored by The Dade Co (GA) Historical Society and State of Dade SCV. Hope all of you who can join us will as this is a very good program. For those who missed the first posting, The play is fiction but is based on information gleaned from Civil War journals and letters written by Confederate Soldiers. It is the life of one Confederate Soldiers (could your ancestor) before, during and after the War. Sue

    1. [GAWALKER] Walker County Men &Mexican War
    2. Does anyone know if there is a listing of men from Walker Co /NW Ga. who served in the Mexican War. I'm coming up dry trying to trace an ancestor who may have served. Or, were there county militias during the 1840-50's? Soldiers in Gray sounds fascinating. Wish I lived close enough to come.

    1. [GAWALKER] "Soldiers In Gray"
    2. Beverly Forrester
    3. This is for all local people who might be interested in a program called "Soldiers in Gray." Soldiers in Gray, a musical journey, is a play based on Civil War diaries and journal facts. The play is written and acted by Stan Clardy of North Carolina and is approximately one hour in length. Steve and I have seen this musical play and it is very good. The Dade County Historical Society and the State of Dade Sons of Confederate Veterans are co-sponsoring the play on Saturday, September 14th, at 7 p.m. The place is to be finalized in the next two days and will be posted as soon as we know where. However, it will be in Dade County. The cost will not be much just enough to cover expenses and will be announced along with the place. Everyone is welcome and we hope you can make plans to attend. If you have any questions, please let me know. Sue Forrester Dade County Historical Society

These pages list the heirs who lived outside of Henderson County NC and are included in "Abstract Henderson County Estate Records 1838 - 1900" I hope this helps you link to Henderson County. The heirs are listed by State and then County, if the county was given in the documents. This is by no means all the heirs who lived outside Henderson Ct - just the ones I noted from the documents. 3. Gene- Thanks for responding to my post- Honestly, I could not tell you if my family was ever counted on ANY census in Georgia. I was told by someone that I might be able to find a connection there in Whitfield, Walker, or Murray county. That was my reason for posting there. I only was able to find them in the 1860 St. Clair County Alabama census. Someone else who has the census cd's said they could be found in Jefferson County census of 1900.While I am talking to you-what happened to Murray County Georgia? Or do they just not have a mailing list? Was your family ever found on a Walker or Chattooga or nearby census. My gg grandmother was Martha A. Collins born 1840 in Chattooga County, Georgia. She was on the 1850 census with her family.... Collins, John 57 M Farmer 250 Georgia Jane 30 F Georgia Daniel 15 M Farmer Georgia Wm 12 M " Martha 10 F " Floyd 8 M " Mary J 6 F " P couldn't read the rest 4 M James 1 M " page 385 Seminole District Township Chattooga County Georgia and on the 1860 Collins, John age 62 Farm Lab GA Jane 48 " Floyd 17 Al Humphrey P. 13 Al James 11 GA John 8 GA Martha A. 19 AL Mary J. 16 AL living two doors away Collins, Charles 70 SC Louisa 40 SC Elizabeth 23 SC Green 23 Ga Mary 18 Ga Susan 14 Ga Elijah 9 Ga John 4 Ga Richard 1 Ga Chattooga County, Georgia Chattooga Valley page 607-608 My gg grandmother Martha A. Collins married my gg grandfather Gilbert Andrew Harvey Sept 6, 1866 in Walker County, Georgia where they remained for a while and can be found on the 1870 census. It was listed on Martha A. (Collins) Harvey's death certificate that her parents were John Collins and Mary Saxon. It was also told to me by many generations that she was Cherokee Indian but I do not know the degree. By the 1870 census Martha A. and Gilbert Andrew Harvey had had their first two children. Their childrens names were..... Julia A........Louis A........James Robert.........Lucy.........John.........Dora. Their first born was my g grandmother and her name was Julia A. Minta Harvey born July 30, 1867 Walker County, Georgia. So far I do not know what the A. stands for but Julia named her first child Roy Ammons Lefevre and I have the Lefevre line pretty much solved and to date no Ammons link has been found. Minta was also important to my great grandmother since she named her first daughter Mintia Julia Lefevre. Besides finding Martha and Gilbert I have been unsuccessful finding anyone but Floyd (Martha's brother) on the 1870 census. But I have not given up yet. By 1873 Martha and Gilbert are in Hot Springs Arkansas and by 1880 they are in Tyler, Smith County Texas and from there they traveled on to Bosque County, Texas on or about 1889 when my great grandmother married for the first time Lemuel Standifer who was the son of a Civil War buddy of Julia's father Gilbert. This marriage did not last and Julia married in Bosque in Dec. 1894 my great grandfather I also found a marriage record for Chattooga County for James M. Jamison to Mary Collins Aug 12, 1869. No way to know if this is my gg grandmother's sister Mary J. Collins but one could hope. I believe that the Charles Collins living one door away from my John is related to him and possibly the J.C. Collins age 33 Ga with wife Matilda age 30 GA and child Louisa J. age 8 Ga living in Chattooga Valley page 604 on the 1860 census is kin to my John also.
