I just received news that Sarah A. Gillean and Exer Gillean died in 1861 in Walker County. I wonder if some kind person would do a look up in the cemetery books and see if they are listed? Thank you very much. Sybil Thomas Chapman
How right you are. Thanks for the correction. I had it right on my notes, just mistyped it in my e-mail. Levi Bird is buried at Rock Springs United Methodist Church Cem. I am trying to locate the grave of Levi's first wife, Rachel Brickey Bird. She died around 1845 in Walker County, Ga. THANKS~~~~~TERESA
To those of you discussing the graves of Byrd families in Walker Co., are any of your Byrd ancestors married to POWELLS? Searching for descendants of Lewis Powell m. to a Byrd. Billie POWELL Sparrow

This is my William Garrett Morris with his wife, Martha Ellen Pearlea Clark, and their seven children. Obviously Martha A. was named after his sister, Martha Celeste. So even though the record I have shows that Martha C. was buried in Concord, there obviously is no headstone. Would anyone know where I could find the plat of the cemetery? The family might be interested in marking her grave. Since she died in 1950 I would think there would be a plat somewhere indicating where she was buried. Any ideas/info would be most appreciated. No cemetery book can guarantee all the names. That is always the possibility of missed names, especially in the older cemeteries. BF
And there are those burials without gravemarkers to consider. Cemetery listings usually contain only those graves with markers. ----- Original Message ----- From: <BFo8936134@aol.com> To: <GAWALKER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 12, 2004 4:51 PM Subject: Re: [GAWALKER] Re: Cemetery Index > No cemetery book can guarantee all the names. Using the Index for Vol. 1, I found: W G MORRIS 1850 1933 MARTHA P MORRIS 1851 1916 The markers were next to each other in the Concord Methodist Church Cemetery. The death date for this Martha doesn't match, but the birthdates could indicate they were brother & sister (or husband & wife). Joan Trundle Ringgold GA

These books, I assume, have the names of all individuals buried in cemeteries in Walker County? I have a person who family says in buried in Concord, but I can't find her marker (Martha Celeste Morris). She died in October 1950 and should be buried close to her brother, William Garrett Morris. If anyone knows Chastity Stoker...I am trying to get in touch with her....She replied to a query I had on genforum a couple of years ago and at the time I did not know the connection to my Childs family, But I believe I know the connection now. The e-mail came back invalid...She said the family lived in Walker County and this is where John Childs went from Gordon County GA. Would like to hear from her or anyone with a connection to the Childs family. Thank you, Donna Johnson
Jane is right, Delilah... The index you have goes to Volume 1 of the Walker County Cemetery Book. That book's index was so bad they did a separate index... what you have it sounds like. The book itself can be ordered from the Walker County Historical Society or through the LaFayette Library, Betty Johnson. Delilah, I aassume you have the Index to Cemetery Book Vol. I. Yes, there is a book that matches this index and also a Cemetery Book II which is similarly indexed in the book itself. Jane Shelton

Hello, Walker County people. I am seeking information about a land lottery draw that my ancestor, Leroy Williams obtained in the 1832 Cherokee land lottery. I understand he won draw #44, lands near Snake Creek, 26th district, 3rd Sec. Cherokee that later became Walker Co. I would like to find where this land was located and visit it. I live in Carroll County, where Leroy and his wife moved when they left Walker Co. I would also like to learn about the (old?) Salem church. Leroy and LuDicey moved their membership, by letter, to the New Hope Primative Baptist Church near Villa Rica in 1837, when the moved to Carroll County. Does this church still exist? Is there a successor church if it doesn't? Any help would be appreciated. Bill Mitchell
Thomas Golliher Jr. and Thomas Golliher, Sr. were in Wilkes Co. GA for the land lottery in 1805. They, along with other Gollihers, drew blanks, and moved on to Kentucky. Benjamin Austin Gollaher, eldest son of Thomas Jr., was born in 1806 in Georgia, according to the census. However, I have never been able to find a marriage record for Thomas Golliher/Gollaher and wife Judith, nor can I back them out of Georgia, IF the ones in Wilkes Co. were indeed my Kentucky Gollahers. The information I have from Wilkes Co. is this: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`` Wilkes County Tax Digest, by Frank Parker Hudson: Thomas Goliher is listed in 1802, Capt. Render's District. James Goliher; 1805, Capt. Render's Dist., Wilkes Co. Thomas Goliher, Sr., 1805, Capt. Render's Dist., Wilkes Co. Thomas Goliher, Jr., 1805 Capt. Render's Dist., Wilkes Co. Richard Goliher is listed in the same district, 1805. 1807 Dec 31: Thomas Galliher of Wilkes Co to David Carson of Baldwin Co GA for $200 202 acres lot 6 llth dist of Baldwin on waters of Shoal Creek. Signed: Thos. (X) Galliher. Wit by Henry Doudy and Beverly Martin of Wilkes Co., Henry Doudy swore to the deed before Solomon Thornton JP 31 Dec 1807. Recorded 1 Aug 1810. B/358, 359. 1803 31 October Wilkes Co., GA Deed of Gift James Gollihor to daughter Nancy: Know all men by these presents that I, James Gollihar of the County of Wilkes and State of Georgia for and in consideration of the love and affection which I have unto my daughter Nancy, I do hereby give unto my said daughter one bay horse about eleven years old and a mans saddle which said horse and saddle I do hereby warrant and defend unto my said daughter Nancy Gollihor, her heirs and assigns forever clear of all incumbrances. In witness to herof, I do herunto set my hand and seal this 31st day of October 1803.
